The Gibside hotel consistently maintains high standards and I always return to this lovely hotel when I return to the UK. The price of the accommodation was reasonable. The staff are always super friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location of the hotel is very good and is on the bus route into Newcastle or the Metrocentre, it is also well positioned to get into the Northumberland or Durham countryside. The bar / lounge is great and, although there are a number of pubs and restaurants in the village of Whickham, we were more than happy to have our evening meal and drinks at the hotel each day. There are happy hour meal prices in the bar / lounge and the number of local couples, families and groups that use this facility says a lot about the quality and value. I have stayed at the Gibside over many years and will certainly be back in the future and can highly recommend the hotel.

Brilliant hotel.booked for a weekend away to see Beamish. Only 10 minutes drive away through lovely scenery. Hotel was very clean.staff where lovely ,very helpful and informative. Room was well sized with lovely ensuite facilities.very quiet and no noisy door sounds. Bed comfy with clean linen and fluffy towels. Tea and coffee facilities and biscuits provided. BREAKFAST was excellent and good value in the room price paid. Full English with toast ,butter and preserves. Or eggs benedict if you preffered Tea and coffee juice and iced water. Ladies in the breakfast room were excellent and waited no longer than 5 minutes for breakfast to be served to us . On site bar and bistro -with outside sitting area. Hotel was central to newcastle and visitor attractions. There were plenty of eateries nearby for evening meal. With a tesco/heron and fresh bakery within 5 minute walk. Will defo be staying again -thanks for a lovely stay Cereal, fruit and yoghurt.

All was good

This is a lovely centrally located hotel within Whickham Front street. The bus stops are a very short walk away. There is a little shopping square virtually next to the hotel along with numerous restaurants and convenience stores. The hotel is very comfortable and quiet. It may be showing its age but that is also part of its charm. The bedroom has no USB points so be sure to bring a travel plug. The rooms are a generous size and was very clean. Breakfast was also ample and you could choose from a variety of hot items from a menu. The reception rooms are limited however there is a lively pub and coffee bar restaurant with lovely views. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely come here again.

There was no plugs nearby the bed so you had to charge your phone by the desk. There are very few rooms with a walk in shower which might be a problem for others.

We ate in the upstairs bar on the Saturday night as there was a festive function on in the restaurant. The food was served till 8.30pm and was excellent and reasonably priced.

Very minor issues....we stayed in a junior suite which was nice, but in the bathroom the temperature of the shower was preset and couldn't be adjusted. I would have preferred it hotter. My wife would have preferred the room temperature warmer, although the radiator was hot to touch. Neither of these issues were enough to spoil our stay though.

We had a minor issue and the young man on reception was really efficient to move us to another room. You don't really know a place until you need something sorted - and they were really good. The rooms are spacious, the breakfast is of a good quality and the (quiet) bar onsite has panoramic views over the city. The location in Whickham village is really good with interesting surroundings. There is easy driving access to the A1 to get around the area.

Nothing really. The hotel is really comfortable, and the food is good.

The size of the suite that my two daughters and I stayed in was fantastic. 2 bathrooms meant my eldest daughter had loads of privacy, which was great. We were located next door to my husband and son who shared a superior king room. Perfect for the two of them. We requested rooms net to each other as the kids aren't old enough to be in a hotel room without a parent, and after booking through booking.com the hotel rang to ask if they could assist any further, which was fantastic customer service. I just thought after booking we would take potluck, but due to their call we were able to actually discuss the booking. Plus, this was over new year and a busy period.

The suite whilst perfectly clean and spacious with very comfortable beds, seemed a little dated in the decor. I'm not sure if the room had been used for a while as when turning on the water it was incredibly spluttery, as if the taps had not been used. The same had to be said about the showers. Once going the walk-in shower was fine, but the one in the bathroom, I could not change the water flow, which meant only the middle jets were working.

This hotel is ideally situated for arriving from the airport or by car. I know this hotel very well as until recently I lived in Whickham. We stayed here for 6 nights on bed & breakfast basis. We also had meals at the hotel. All food was beautifully cooked. The standard bedroom had a king size bed in a bedroom of a decent size. Our bedroom 206 had recently been upgraded. The hotel sits on a Main Street in the village. We asked for a “valley view” to avoid any passing road traffic, not that the main road is that busy. There are great transport facilities to the centre of Newcastle, Metrocentre and Whitley Bay.

Location, room size, comfortable bed.

Heating was on full and you can only open the window to a very small degree, so even after turning off the radiator and coming back after our meal and drinks it was still very warm. Maybe save yourselves a lot of money on heating costs and leave it to guests to only put it on when it's actually cold. Also we stay quite often to visit family and not having a lift is becoming difficult due to the amount of stairs.

Nice and clean and perfect location. On our first night the radiator was super hot and couldn’t be turned down so I mention it to the receptionist and housekeeping manager and they were so helpful and apologetic and moved us to another room with no problem they were so lovely and helpful and couldn’t do enough to help would help we had food in the bar which was very nice and bar staff super friendly

Location is very well situated being around 3 miles from A1 at Newcastle and Gibside (National Trust property) a short drive away. Staff are very kind, helpful and welcoming. It feels very much like this is a family owned hotel. The food is much better than we have had at much more expensive hotels clearly being freshly prepared and of high quality including pizza my son had for his tea which was freshly made and the Eggs Benedict my wife and son had for breakfast. The room was huge as it was a Junior Suite with two bathrooms. Small amount of parking onsite but council car park to the rear which is free after 5.30pm.

Not a lot, we got what we paid for. The rooms had probably been updated some time ago so some form of use is to be expected. The room was a bit dark so fine for an overnight stay.
