I loved the rice that was given free to us with various. Condiments , morning and evening. A nice touch! Yea and coffee provided as well and all the necessary bathroom amenities. Staff were courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. I really felt comfortable as a single woman traveller there.

I was happy with it all. Just one noisy male traveler in our dormitory so if you’re a super light sleeper you might want earplugs, but in general, people are considerate.

The private Onsen are the absolute highlight of this guesthouse. Capsule/covens for sleeping in the shared bedroom seemed very spacious. I loved the Tatami in the traditional living room and the bedrooms. Breakfast is onsen-rice porridge, great local experience! (Not for everyone though) Location is brilliant for several hikes around Kumano Kodo (starting directly behind the guesthouse or taking the bus for other routes). I had a wonderful and very relaxing time.

Not much bad to say really, but if so: Dinner options are very limited, you can buy instant food and snacks from the guesthouse or get a voucher for dinner at their sister restaurant (one dish in variations, veg. Option). I wished the towels were included, but they were also super cheap with 100 yen. Make sure to bring enough cash, best coins.

Great capsules, super comfy Free rice porridge breakfast Bento boxes available for dinner. They also have crisps/noodles/snacks/beer for purchase Three onsens are great Communal space means you mix with other travellers Great wifi Good price Lots of info about buses etc.

My only gripe with this place is about the outdoor onsen (there are 2 others but indoor). Some guests are super selfish and take SO long in there. I waited for 50min for one couple to vacate but there was no help from staff when I asked them, and no guidance on how long each person should use it for. It’s arguably the best part of the hostel and I think they need to control it better. Towel rental 100yen Also bear in mind this hostel is a strenuous walk or a bus ride from Hongu

This was the best value for money stay I had this trip. Highly recommend opting for dinner to be included with your stay. The steamed vegetables and meat with rice and soup was a sumptuous, healthy yet delicious meal especially at the end of a day's big hike. The dorm beds were comfortable, and it was a really nice luxury to get a private onsen experience (especially the outdoor one). Though there was no convenience store around, the hostel has a very good range of snacks, instant noodles, buns at good prices so you don't have to worry about not having food around.

Check-in was strict, so time your arrival accordingly or you'll have to wait around. But there's a nice free foot bath outside so that if you arrive early, you can soak your feet.

Great hostel, good value for money. We had a private room with two bunk beds. It was spacious and had aircon. The communal living room is great. They have board games, books and a guitar. You can buy many snacks and drinks for an affordable price. You can also order a bento box. In the morning there is free rice porridge and in the evening free rice. Coffee and tea is also free. Washing machine and dryer cost 200 Yen. Best part of the hostel are the 3 private onsen!

My only suggestion would be to add a few showers. We had to queue up for the onsen, which is hard when you are exhausted and smelly after walking all day.

This Guesthouse was really lovely. The Guesthouse is close to the town center and was very easy to find. It's also right off the Kumano Kodo path, if you are walking it! The beds were very comfortable and the room was nicely arranged and looked beautiful with the clean tatami mats and views of the town from our windows. I also got to enjoy the onsens, which were very convenient to use, clean, and provided a nice hot soak after our days of hiking. On top of that, I really appreciated the bento we were able to order for dinner from the guesthouse and the rice porridge in the morning. While we were eating we also got to meet some of the other guests and here their stories, which was a plus. All in all a lovely stay.

No complaints!

The accomodation had 3 spacious shower rooms each with its own onsen pool. This was definitely the highlight of the accomodation. The shower/onsens areas were also kept quite clean. There was a large living room and kitchen for you to mingle with other guests. You could buy snacks/chips/instant directly at the property. Rooms were generally quiet. Located just a short walk away from the Yunomine Onsen bus stop.

Beds had low ceilings because they were stacked on top on one another. So it's probably not comfortable for tall people. Dinner bento set was basic. But then again, there were not much restaurants/eateries available in the village. There was a dryer available but it was not very good. Couldn't dry my clothes well.

The staff were amazing, and they helped us with several queries. The bento evening meals provided on the Thursday were really good, shame you can't get those other nights. Appreciated that you could buy drinks and some food from the reception area. The facilities were clean and advertised. Loved the foot spa and the onsens. The location is also great, 2min walk from the main onsen in town and the bus stop. We stayed 2 nights and made the most of the location and bus services.

It did seem a bit pricier than other similar places that we have stayed in.

True to the description on the website, it has a very good standard for being a crowded and busy hostel. The crew is friendly and helpful, the private room comfortable in its basic arrangement and tatami floor, and the onsen (only private baths) are among the best we had. It is also a good spot for a stop-over in the Kumano Kodo trail, or to simply walk to Hongu and back to Yunomine. Cozy, convenient, and great value for money.

Being a hostel, there are plenty of awesome travelers eager to talk to you. But it is also ok if you stick to yourself.

Welcoming staff. Very clean facilities and wonderful private onsen. We especially liked the way they accommodated us brining in food from an outside restaurant to where they usually order from which I was told was not the norm. However, we were offered this option from the Manager of the new bar down the road and although this may become the norm - it’s a good option for vegetarians like my husband (just a tip)

Mats a little uncomfortable for older folk like us but we solved this by doubling them over (we had a private room). The bento boxes offered from “the only restaurant in town” were pretty below par in quality to what we have had everywhere else (even for meat lovers like me) - time for some competition like the new bar just down the road
