Amazing staff, super friendly, service amazing. Food menu is extensive, breakfast very nice. Good cocktails. The hotel arranged VIP tickets for the borobodur. The transportation to and from other places was within the hotel fee, without any trouble. This hotel is a gem if you like the quietness for a few days, everything is very relaxed. The pool is amazing and also has a view towards the Borobodur temple complex. Hotel room was very nice, Indonesian style interior with a very comfortable bed.

Nothing.

The first surprise was that I was upgraded and had this marvellous villa with swimming pool for myself. The view was astonishing, located in the hills and in the middle of the jungle, a paradise. I felt so good and relaxed every minute. Everything was clean, well maintained and beautiful. Guru and the whole team were above all expectations, always helpful , smiling and went far beyond their duty to make my stay a dream; I can't thank them enough. You have a beautiful place next to the villa to watch the sunset and sunrise, and if lucky will see the volcanos in front of you. The Borobudur temple is at 10min ride, the hotel kindly takes you there (don't forget to book online to climb it). I could actually perceive the temple from my villa. There are also many other things to do in the area.. I warmly recommend this hidden gem you never want to leave... Just one thing, as in every other place where you stay, you hear the praying many times during the day and once at night, don't forget your earbuds, or your own music 😊. This didn't bother me.

Amazing views with super friendly and helpful staff. A great location close to Borobudur temple with easy transport from the hotel. We loved the private pool! A note for pickier travelers - Food was fine and on par with most Indonesian resorts outside of Bali (and this may not be to western standards). It’s Javanese style so open air design in the living area and the villa is surrounded by jungle which means bugs, ants and mosquitos. With mozzie nets and mosquito spray we managed just fine (and it’s easy to Gojek some from the nearby Indomaret)

There was limited seating / lounging and relaxing space as its wet season. We ended up bringing the pool lounges up to the open air living space - problem solved! Call to prayer was very loud so perhaps this place is not for you if you’re a light sleeper. We did 3 nights though and it was fine!

Nice atmosphere, beautifully decorated hotel and room, nice and attentive staff, excellent drivers to take you on trips. We were glad to have chosen Borobudur as our base to see the many interesting sights in this region rather than Yogyakarta.

Already mentioned by quite some others, but nowhere in Indonesia (well, in the places we stayed during our trip that is) were the calls for prayers so loud. Luckily the hotel provides ear plugs, you will need it. Perhaps it is also the location up a hill with two mosques at the bottom that kind of amplifies the sound. A minor thing: It is a very quiet, serene place; which has pros and cons. One evening we were the only guests in the (fine) restaurant. We had expected it to be a bit more lively. One tip: the playlist in the restaurant adds to the atmosphere, but was a bit repetitive.

A most beautiful resort with stunning views over jungle, Borobudur temple and volcano! The villas are aesthetically and exquisite, a work of Javanese art. Most comfortable bed with beautiful mosquito net around, lots of space, amazing paintings on the wall, richly carved wood ceiling. It somehow felt like staying in a little museum. Where ever you look around - inside the villas and outside in the beautiful resort area there is so much beauty to discover. The staff was excellent, nothing was too much to ask for. I had plenty contact to them before our arrival and all the bookings done through the resort worked out perfectly! In fact they couldn´t have been better!! Spend sunset at Borobudur temple on a VIP tour directly booked and arranged by the hotel. This was extraordinary! Booked a Jeep tour according to our wishes through the villages and up the tiny slopes of the mountains through mist and had another most unforgettable day with plenty precious moments. Sinar hill is also a lovely place to spend time during sunset and sunrise with a nice drink to be served up there. We had a most fantastic and unforgettable time there and would have loved to stay longer ( stayed there 3 nights )! Highly reccomended! Would and will always return if it happen to be in the area again.

Thanks to location high on a hillside the view was stunning! Wonderful ambiance, exclusive, quiet and cosy. The exterior and interior of my beautiful Queen Maya room with canopy bed and traditional Javanese wood carving was amazing. I got the most personal and warm welcome with detailed walk-through of my room by the nice young man at the reception. There were local snacks in the room incl. snake fruit only found in Java. There were pretty kimonos with traditional pattern in the closet. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and beautifully presented. A lot of emphasis on traditional Java culture like instruments and figures. Everything was perfect down to the softest towels. Loved it all and would love to come back.

Possibly the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed in. In the hills above Borobudur the villas are aesthetically exquisite, a work of art in and of themselves. There is a king size 4-poster bed with mosquito netting in the middle of the room and able it a richly carved wood ceiling. The wood carving outside was also of the highest quality. It was like staying in a museum piece in its best sense. The staff are superb. Ridan and the rest of the team attended our every wish and always with a gracious and genuine smile. The food was excellent and we asked for it to be served on the verandah of our villa. Indonesian food is very sophisticated in its flavoring. Our drivers both from the airport and to Yogyakarta afterwards were efficient and helpful. A highlight was going up to Sinar Hill at 5.30am in the morning to the sunrise over the active volcano Merapi. Don't miss it. The sun rose directly over the volcano's peak when we were there. Coffee was brought to us. Afterwards we swam in their elegant pool then spent the morning in Borobudur temple complex in a VIP tour organized by the hotel. Another "don't miss it" experience. If you're coming to Indonesia, try to see Borobudur and definitely stay at Villa Borobudur Resort.

I don't think anything could be better. My only comment would be that it is built on such a slope that the steps everywhere could be trying for an older person or someone with limited mobility.

Their service is good. We enjoy the view of the mountains. The distance between the villa, restaurant, and reception is slightly long. The driver took us between facilities nicely. When we failed to call the taxi for more than 30 minutes, we sought help from the resort. Their driver took us to Camera House Borobudur, which is near downtown. Then, we can easily call a taxi at that place. This place is a very good place to relax.

The villa is a little far from Borobudur Temple, so the Borobudur Temple looks slightly tiny. It is almost impossible to call a taxi by ourselves since it is outside of downtown. Drivers kept canceling requests. There are lots of chanting sounds at night, which might be the same in the whole Borobudur area.

Absolutely gorgeous place - the location and the villa itself! The staff made us feel so comfortable. Looking over the valley and Borobodur in the distance both in the morning and the evening was superb. I was worried if it would be as beautiful as in the pictures but it really was!

The only tiny criticism would be a slightly musty smell in the bathroom. Everything was very clean, so I think that the smell was just due to somewhat outdated sewage system.

The location on a hillside overlooking the Borobudur valley with mountains and volcanoes in the distance is simply wonderful. The resort is a gem, with everything you could need on site - swimming pool, massage treatments, dining and bar facilities, and staff who are both charming and wonderfully helpful. The rooms are really big, built in a traditional wooden Javanese style, though reaching our one at the top of a flight of steep stairs would not be suitable for travellers with mobility issues. Borobudur temple is 10 minutes drive from the resort, so visiting in the early morning is very easy, and our visit there was organised in advance very efficiently by the resort staff.

The only downside is the 'call to prayer' 5 times a day, starting at 4.30 a.m. (earlier on one morning) by over-amplified muezzin across the valley. It may be something to do with the geography that the sound carries so far and so loudly, and possibly not helped by the nearby mosque continuing sometimes for over an hour. There's nothing the staff can do about this, of course; it's part and parcel of being in a Muslim culture. Bring good ear plugs, or noise-cancelling headphones (the resort do provide ear plugs though personally I didn't find them helpful).
