Ok, so the bedroom carpet was a little theadbare but the room was spacious and very clean. The bed was comfy and there was plenty of hot water. I even had the luxury of a hot bath after a busy day 😁 Staff are lovely - we were even left a generous supply of tea/coffee etc hanging on the door because I had put the 'do not disturb' sign out. (This was a stark contrast to the alleged 4 star hotel we stayed at recently where I had to fight for replacements because I had used up my allocation) Breakfast was generous and very tasty - reasonably priced too. Another great stay - we will be back.

Sometimes the car park is completely full but we were able to find on street parking a short distance away.

Excellent traditional town hotel and pub. Lovely interesting historic building with lots of atmosphere. Hasn't had the interior altered too much like some old pubs. A good range of excellent real pies. Fortunately. not the bowl of stew with a puff pastry lid offered by so many places.

The weather had turned colder but the heating didn't come on until around 9.30pm on our first night and we were woken up by a fire alarm at around 5am on our second. These things happen but a simple apology by the receptionist rather than just telling us the alarm was going to be checked later would have gone a long way!

Location was great and there was lots of room to park! Most of staff lovely and helpful (see below re good & bad). Food really good & great value. Decor comfortable.

Started off really poorly - after an 8 hour drive the reception was awful - one of worst I’ve experienced. The person on reception (dark haired young woman - long dark hair) was off-hand, rude and very dismissive. Also very haughty. We had 5 rooms booked - and a mistake was made in check-in still not sure if us or her - but she was just so rude and quite accusationary/aggressive in her manner. This does not set one’s stay up right. And even after sorted left us feeling disgruntled. However your serving staff in the kitchen/restaurant were amazing. And so helped turn things around (as we wanted to have the best time). The head of catering/restaurant was so so helpful.

Good friendly communication. Great QR codes for local attractions in the welcome book in my room - great idea! Loved the WiFi and the fact it was written in the room so didn’t have to ask ✅ Room was well furnished and clean and lovely hot water - a hot weekend so a bit stuffy even though radiators were turned off but happy to be able to open my window. Excellent pies!! (Had the Steak and Guinness, new potatoes and veg - amazing 🤩 All in all I’ll be happy to stay at The Bell again next time I’m at an event at nearby Addington Equestrian Centre 👍

All good 👍

Don't usually provide reports but we were blown away by this pub. The food was excellent, drink was good, room was excellent and above all the staff were incredibly welcoming throughout. many guests had been a lot before. it won't please anybody who wants a modern experience but if you like to wallow in nostalgia this is the place for you

The full English was excellent but don't expect there to be a " continental" option- it doesn't exist. But for £9.50 a throw who cares?

My second stay. Very old building makes it a quirky hotel. For example ill fitting doors, low ceilings, thick walls and old style plumbing BUT I love it. It's comfortable with nice staff and clean although dated decor. If you want modern glamour this place is not for you, if you want basic comfort and can handle quirks brought about by the age of the building you won't be disappointed.

Parking on busy nights can be difficult but the staff will help you if you ask.

Good clean room downstairs in the annexe. Comfortable beds. Excellent central heating. Good towels, shower. Evening meal reasonably priced, quickly served. One of the "Award-winning" pies (vegetable) lived up to its name. Good portions. Serve yourself breakfast available until 11am. Welsh choir from "Festival of A Thousand Voices" in bar after the concert - wonderful! Phillip (proprietor) "hands-on" from morning to night-time.

The building is lovely, seeming to be several old buildings merged into one, with the quirky and quaint rooms off rooms off rooms effect and differences in floor levels. Our room was huge, with high ceiling and a four poster bed, not to mention large wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables, sofa and comfortable chairs. It was good being able to eat at the property, without having to travel elsewhere. The pies were amazing, and a lovely range to choose from too. Breakfast was fantastic, with good choice. The cooked elements were plentiful, well cooked and tasty. We will definitely stay here again when we are working in the area.

With both our desserts the staff messed up (microwaved cheesecake, and treacle tart that was actually trifle, with hot custard) - but we didn’t say anything at the time as we were too tired, and just wanted to eat and go to bed. And honestly - we found it amusing, and it didn’t stop either of us from eating our dessert!

Really comfy bed, old pub building with lots of character. The staff were lovely and accommodating and made sure I could eat gluten free / veggie (I let them know a few days in advance to prepare) and even had GF award winning pies in stock which were amazing! Great cooked breakfast too which was excellent value as we booked in advance. Would definitely recommend. Parking included on site, check in / out was easy.

Staff were brilliant very helpful and friendly. This is a character full old building. Walls not straight with lots of niches and annexes. Older decor but for me it had charm. Low ceilings (at 5'19" by head nearly touched the ceiling especially in the shower) and low doorways.

Important to note I would definitely stay here again! My room looked a bit tired in places and had some maintenance issues like screws sticking out and a mark in the bath that at first looked like dirt and horrified me at first but it wasn't - it has been damaged at some point. The grout in the bathroom looked grubby in places. Just needed refreshing. The taps in the bath/shower worn and difficult to turn. That said sheets and linen were spotless. An old carpet but again spotless. So it was clean but characterful 😁😁 and great value for money.
