A very unique, calming and beautiful stay in what can be crazy (but wonderful) Osaka. From the moment you walk through the noren, everything feels calm and relaxing - the design of the space has been very thoughtful and well executed. Even to the point that I normally dislike incense, but the smell when you walk in is lovely (maybe all my friends had nasty incense over the years!). The rooms are really lovely - I'm not quite sure what a traditional Japanese room would like like, but in my Australian mind I like to think it is like this including (what I would define as) the slightly raised futon (not going to claim accuracy for my terminology!!). The room size is also excellent - one of the larger in Japan that I've had - not huge but just that wee bit more. I love the pyjama thing in Japanese hotels - plus they had 'toe socks' the traditional socks with the split after the big toe. And of course, staff were amazing - kind and helpful at every interaction. I would happily stay here again - a beautiful space, and great value for money.
Like other reviews, location is a little out of the way but it's not terrible by any stretch. 7-9 minute walk to the nearest metro and it's not that far into the action, but also don't underestimate the local area for restaurants etc - a short walk had me finding all sorts of eating treasures, without all the tourist nonsense of inner Osaka. There was a little noise in the morning, particularly kids in the hallway and someone leaving very early, which wasn't terrible and wouldn't put me off staying, but if you're super sensitive to noise may be worth nothing.

Good vibes, very clean. Polite and helpful staff. Japanese breakfast included. Meditation session included every evening in Japanese (1 hr), once a week by an English speaking monk. Daily room service, if desired. Location near lovely Tennoji park. I stayed for 2 weeks in total because I quite liked it.
A bit far from subway, I preferred to walk to Namba, took the same time. Take a taxi if you carry heavy luggage. Internet at times slow. Front rooms with some street noise (I'm very light sleeper), I asked and received a room in the back, which was quiet. I had to do some work, there was no spot to do that at the lobby, and the low seat in room was uncomfortable.

The hotel is really nice and the staff was very polite, helpful and friendly. The room was clean and quite big compared to the Japanese standard. I liked the breakfast (healthy, which was nice considering that I had quite a lot of okonomiyaki and takoyaki during my stay!) The hotel is positioned close to the Shinsekai area (so a bit far from Dotonbori), the area is quiet. The hotel does not have laundry facilities but there is a coin laundry in a 3 minutes walking distance.
Unfortunately, the rooms are not very soundproof as the walls are very thin, and you can hear everything is going on in the hallway. During the first night, there were people going up and down the elevator until 4am so I could barely sleep. This is kind of related to people’s manners so not really the hotel’s fault but some layers of isolation within the room could also improve the situation.

So quiet, clean and tastefully decorated. Good sized room. Loved the pyjamas. Comfortable bed. We could also open window a little if needed. Peaceful oasis in Osaka. Close to a few train stations. Easiest way to get to and from Shin Osaka is to use M line on metro and get out at station before Tennoji. It’s a short walk to hotel that way. Some shrines and temples close by.
Has motorbike shops and car dealerships on either side so it’s easy to miss. Convenience stores were about 5 minutes walk away as are restaurants so it’s quiet at night around the hotel

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous and was a pleasure to stay in. All of the staff are extremely kind and helpful, especially the morning staff who prepare the most incredible vegan breakfast each day. The room is perfectly clean and very comfortable. We loved the tatami flooring. Osaka was our favorite destination during our Japan trip, largely in part to how wonderful this hotel was. I will absolutely be staying here again when I come back to Osaka!
The only thing that was a negative was that the beds are not very comfortable. I got pretty extreme neck pain from the pillows and wasn’t able to turn my head for a day or two because of it.

Excellent place to stay in Osaka. The room was clean and of decent size. Breakfast was delicious even for now vegetarians like myself. The Japanese philosophy and aesthetic of the hotel was also a wonderful touch. But I think the best part is the hospitality and friendliness of the staff. They were a big help in locating a package that was supposed to be delivered to the hotel. Despite some language barriers, they knew how to navigate around. Definitely worth returning!
I have no negative thing to say but I do want to share some things that could potentially be an issue for others. First, the wifi was a bit spotty. Maybe it is my room location but in any case, travellers who would be depending on hotel wifi might see this as a problem (I have mobile data so it had no impact on me). Second, the hot water fluctuated. Again, this did not bother me but others may see this differently.

Walking into Hotel Shitaderamachi was like taking a deep breath of fresh, clean air. This Buddhist hotel felt like a refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life. The simple but elegant aesthetics of the decor, the kindness and helpfulness of the staff and the delicious breakfast, made us wish we could stay much longer.
There really wasn’t anything that we didn’t like. Hotel Shitaderamachi does require a little walking to access from the train station (there didn’t seem to be a bus though I may be wrong) but even for my husband and I in our late 60’s, it was an easy stroll.

It is a hotel, welcoming and efficient. Staff were lovely as usual, they offer meditation and calligraphy class if that’s your sort of thing. Not a bad location about 10-15 walk to Shinsekai and 30-40 minutes uptown to Dotombori. 10-15 minutes from the nearest metro.
The room we ended up in had a window but it was covered on the outside so there was barely any natural light, 2nd Floor all the way down on the right side I think all the rooms were like that. Also the window didn’t block out noise effectively at all.

This hotel is a great pick for those who want a more personal and immersive experience. We loved the breakfast, the atmosphere and the friendly personnel. We were able to make arrangements for luggage transport with no problems at all. When I accidentally forgot an item in the room after we checked out they were so helpful in delivering it to my next hotel. If we are in Osaka again, we will surely come again. The rooms are also quite spacious for a Japanese hotel!
Nothing.

The room was lovely - a traditional sort of look but with all modern practicalities. The staff were brilliant and let us store our luggage the morning of arrival ahead of check-in so we could look around Osaka. They also helped us book a taxi to our next destination during check-out. The accommodation offers a free meditation session on Friday and Saturday evenings that we weren't able to attend due to other commitments, but looked really good. All standard amenities provided (towels, PJs, slippers, toiletries, etc.). The location was good and relatively close to public transport and convenience stores. We had no trouble sleeping, though the area felt a little louder at night than other Japanese cities we stayed in.
A minor thing, but they only gave us one toilet roll for our stay. I am 100% sure they would've given us another if we'd asked though (we were out for most of the day during our stay so it ended up not being an issue).
