Everything was within a stone's throw from our front door. Room was big enough for us even when we had guests come visit. Staff were excellent and efficient all very friendly. It had a 2way entry/exit access from two different streets which was handy. I liked the fact that the staff offered to refresh our room every day. The beds were very comfortable with nice pillow's which was good for us as we both suffer with shoulder problems, and they had electric blankets which was also great for the shoulders plus warm & snug bed to climb into. We were able to bring our sister out from the Nursing Home and have her spend a couple of nights with us, she was overjoyed, and we were so happy to give her those couple of days out with us.

Although everything was great the traffic going down the back street was a bit noisy especially the trucks. But it is what it is and I just had a nanny nap in the afternoon to compensate for the lost sleep. My husband lost the room key?

A newly refurbished room that was much nicer/cleaner that other older motels we've stayed at recently; kudos to the owner/operator for a job well done. Having a heat pump instead of an 'old-fashioned' bar heater was appreciated (and much more effective/energy-efficient). Good quality curtain fabrics, thoughtful execution of the room layout, and more -- all well done.

Unfortunately, as in most NZ motels, there was not a fan in the shower room, which meant that it steamed up more than necessary. This will cause problems in the long run, so it would be good if a fan was added to reduce future maintenance and increase user comfort. The absence of a fan did not cause us any discomfort, it is only a feature that we (as former B&B owners ourselves) know will pay dividends in the future.

Our room with the full kitchen facilities was upstairs. That was our only concern. Once there we had everything we needed. The guest laundry was brilliant -2x2 coins for wash and the same for dry. Location was convenient- 900 metres to Woolworths, New World, Warehouse and tourist information. We walked but driving is no problem.

We don’t like steps but that’s an age related issue, not a motel related issue.

The owners and staff are friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and perfect for our family of four. The room had been freshly painted and it gave it a more modern and clean feel. The facilities are great and the room had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this motel if travelling through Balclutha.

For a large bathroom the shower space is quite confined when the curtain is pulled around, but this is manageable.

Loved pretty much everything. Super accessible, heaps of privacy, great bath tub, plenty of space. Very accommodating with a dog and a 2 month baby. Super nice and amazing staff and loved having own carpark directly outside the room.

The squeaky, creaky lounge chairs😅. They were really comfy just really noisy everytime you moved just a little.

Handy to all facilities in the town. Food shops next door. Easy walk to the river bank and a short walk into town. Plenty of parking and laundry too. Clean modern warm rooms and super friendly happy staff. Really easy to organise stay from overseas. Don’t go past this motel.

Everything was great. No complaints.

For a lower cost motel, it was very good value as the room we were in had very recently been renovated and was super nice and well appointed. The host was super helpful with an issue we had and gave a great dinner recommendation (Casa Fuego). The location was on the end of the downtown and we were able to walk to dinner. It had been a hot day and the air conditioning was a pleasure.

This was probably down to my room choice but we ended up having to sleep on the fold out sofa bed. (I thought I had chosen a unit with 2 full beds as we were 2 couples traveling together). The sofa was great, but the bed itself was a typical old school sofa bed that would better suit one small child rather than an adult couple. Everything else was great; just make sure to get the right bed configuration!

Easy to find on the main road, plenty of off-street parking, and comfortable bed would stay there again. We are dairy-free and had asked for soy or dairy alternative milk; the host was fantastic and provided it. It made a world of difference to have a hot coffee in the morning with a milk alternative on a public holiday when other choices were not open. I truly appreciated it.

I really liked everything the spa bath was an older model but worked and was nice, overall no complaints wish I had longer to stay there.

Location on main street but right in the middle of town was perfect, easy to walk to town and walkways etc plus no problem getting in or out of driveway. Parking on site was great. Large, comfy room with good facilities all provided and excellent beds. Recommend as a place to stay.

There was nothing we didn't like about The Highway Lodge Motel.

Nice clean tidy room and a good size. Was a good location to everything and the lady at the front desk was really nice and helpful. Was quiet even though by a main road. Heat pump and electric blankets so was lovely and warm.

Too much light coming into the room at night and the mattress was a bit hard
