Breakfast excellent. Richard was an excellent host with right balance of friendliness and efficiency. Communal areas very comfortable and relaxing with tasteful furnishings and very clean.

Room 3 was a little cramped and the furnishings a bit tired. The rattan chair was damaged . Having said that it was the cheapest room available, but a freshen up would not be too expensive and make a significant first impression impact, I believe.

Food was excellent throughout, especially dinner, and they coped well with my gluten free requirement. Reception was friendly, staff always helpful and eager to please. The building was old, but sensitively updated and finished to a high standard with modern bathroom and bedroom facilities. Bed very comfortable. And do have a look at the sheepskin rugs provided to keep you warm while you sit outside!

If you are in to trendy modern this is not the place for you - but we liked the traditional country house ambience.

Let them know ahead of time that I was vegan and they were absolutely marvellous at accommodating me. Huge breakfast selection, vegan butter and milk already on the table. Excellent food and the staff were great. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. I asked for recommendations on where to go on the day I checked out and got a hearty rec for St Abbs, which was just the kind of place I was looking for: nice walk, lovely scenery, pretty village. Cannot fault my stay, I loved it.

The only issue was that I arrived very late after a long work day and wanted a bath. There wasn't a lot of hot water left, but it was around 10pm by this point. I'm sure if I'd asked they would have put the water heater on, but I just had a short bath and made the most of it.

Richard and staff are was amazing, breakfast delicious and place v comfortable. Noise of fire doors a little disturbing but that may have been thoughtless guests. Would only change toast to not packaged but that’s being picky as the place is so warm and deserves lots of visitors.

The staff were incredibly good. I don't think I've ever met anyone as hospitable as the lady who greeted us, and even helped us resolve a problem with some clothes that we were unable to dry in a previous location. She represents everything that is good about the Scottish people: genuine, generous, and really made our stay a pleasure. Without her, it would definitely not have been the same.

The price is a little high given the location and room. Some things are quite dated (not a big carpet fan).

Wonderful peaceful atmosphere, huge bedroom and comfortable lounges. The food at dinner was delicious and beautifully presented. The period features in the house were impressive.

Lovely setting in a building you could tell was full of history and heritage. Great views, shame the weather wasn't better to enjoy the grounds. Nice room with a good comfy warm bed

The room was very lovely, with a four poster bed and matching accessories. The refreshments provided were plentiful and tasty. The bathroom was exceptional, and the toiletries were of very high quality. We could not hear anything from any of the other guest rooms. The view was amazing.

Nothing, really! The hotel is in a quiet spot and so there were no noisy neighbours.
