I stayed at the Antelope Hotel over two nights and really enjoyed my stay. The proprietors, Neil & Claire were excellent and couldn't do enough for you. I was on a short motorcycling tour of the Brecon Beacons so the hotel was in an excellent location as a base. For security, Neil allowed the bike to be parked within the hotel garden, so all good. The room was very clean, warm and comfortable and had been recently refurbished. Everything you required was available in the room, tea, coffee, kettle, soap, shampoo etc. The large bar area was great and the food Claire prepared was fresh and plenty of it (at good prices). The choice at breakfast (which was included in the room price) was great. What a find!! I will certainly be booking to stay again. Thank you.

Couldn't fault it.

The hosts were so friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent. We spent a lovely evening in the bar with the hosts and some of the regulars who seemed more like family than customers. We weren't quite sure what to expect when checking in (at the bar!) but honestly, we loved the atmosphere; the room was clean and spacious and there was nothing to fault during our stay.

I don't think there's anything negative to say. We didn't spend any time in Merthyr as we were planning a hike in the Brecon Beacons the next day so I'm not sure what the town is like - but the hotel itself was warm, comfortable and friendly which, after all, is all that matters.

The Hotel has 6 rooms and is part of a public house which also serves meals, so ideal for me. Although it is a pub, there was no noise at all as it closes at a reasonable hour each evening. The breakfast choice was good and when mine arrived, the plate was full. Good quality bacon, sausage and eggs, none of this wishy washy supermarket rubbish but proper butchers meat. The food and tea were both piping hot and to be honest, lasted me until my evening meal. That to was wonderful. A great choice, freshly cooked with good quality ingredients. Again, like the breakfast it was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The bar had a great selection of beers and lagers and it was great to chat to the locals to hear of their town and area. The hosts were excellent, nothing to fault there. Hard working and passionate about their business, nothing was too much trouble. I took their advice and booked a trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway which was a great trip. I had travelled to Dowlais from Durham on my motorcycle to spectate at the nearby Aberdare circuit. A great weekend. The hotel had secure parking at the rear of the property which was a big plus. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, you will not be disappointed with your stay.

There was nothing to "not like"

Claire was absolutely lovely. She made me feel really welcome and the locals were nice too. I was really pleasantly surprised when I got a ’hello‘ from the locals having a pint when I arrived. The room was clean and the shower was good! Everything that I needed it to be for my weekend away walking.

The only thing that I could say- I was a bit uneasy leaving my car in the carpark with my kit in it. Someones car was stolen in the night from the carpark on my first night. I know this isn‘t the fault of the hotel… but I just felt like I couldn‘t rest properly! The hotel does have cctv on there though so it‘s a risk that you‘d take in many places I guess.

The location. It was a little further out of Merthyr but I chose it because of the parking. Breakfast was included and was really lovely. Food in the bar area was really good. The hosts were lovely friendly people and we were able to check in a bit earlier than originally thought which was good. All in all a really great stay.

Everything was fine for us. Access to rooms is up external stairway which wasn’t a problem for us.

The service I received from my arrival to when I left was excellent. The owners, Neil and Claire, were brilliant hosts and went out their way to make my stay enjoyable. The food was reasonable priced, and they had a well stocked bar with Beers. My room was very clean and tidy, and I liked the easy check-in Overall, this is a brilliant hotel to stay in and when I am down this way again, I will be booking to stay here again.

It was very clean and comfortable, and the couple who run it were amazing, so friendly and helpful. They couldn’t do enough for us and made us feel very welcome.

Only very minor niggles, like insufficient storage/shelves (for example, bathroom would have benefitted from a larger shelf for toiletries, hooks on the back of the door for towels and a shower caddy inside the shower for putting shower gel/shampoo in). Also more plug sockets needed - with the kettle, fridge and bedside light plugged in there was only one spare socket in the room.

The room was very clean, bed very comfortable and all the necessary amenities were in the room. The breakfast was very good and the staff very friendly and helpful. The only small drawback is there is no lift and you have to either go through the bar or use the fire escape entrance, particularly after 10pm when you cannot use the bar entrance which of course is for the guests safety etc. Carrying suitcases up the stairs maybe a problem for some. It was an ideal location for many actractions nearby.

As stated the stairs for some people, we managed.

Very friendly people.Even people in the bar included us as if we were friends.Clare & Neil were perfect hosts, hardworking genuinely nice people.Lovely breakfast, very nice room with all supplies,even a fridge.

Nothing important.Just that the bed was a little low for me & my partner but we are 5’10 &6’1 so wouldn’t be a problem for less tall (and fat!) people.Also if you were staying for longer than 2or 3 days you may struggle with hanging space but there are plenty of drawers.

The place was spotlessly clean and the owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. Bedding and towels were new and our bed and pillows comfortable. Plenty of toiletries on offer in our room with tea/coffee making facilities and a fridge. Fantastic shower. A great place to explore the area or use for a visit to Mertha. Plenty of parking and absolutely fantastic food. Menu was extensive, reasonably priced and portions huge. Breakfast was amazing. Although the pub part was quite busy with friendly locals at times, by the mid/late evening all was quiet. We will definitely stay again.

Tiny improvements would be welcome - in our room 5, we would have liked a bedside light on both sides of the bed and a soap dish in the shower.
