We chose Pelican Cove as an overnight break during a long drive down to Key West. We're so glad we did. Because we were staying only the one night, our accommodation was chalet standard rather than hotel room quality, but functional and comfortable none the less. But the show-stopper was the beach - sheltered, so not turbulent; great for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking, or just lazing the day away, it was a little piece of perfection. The staff were lovely - very helpful - and gave us a great recommendation for a nearby restaurant, where we had a fabulous meal and watched a spectacular sunset. I would highly recommend Pelican Cove to anyone.

What's not to like?

We got a really warm welcome when we arrived to check in. We arrived slightly early but the room was ready and they checked us in straight away which was great. Although rustic the room was comfortable the bed was comfortable and the shower was good and it had everything we needed. The beach front of the hotel is absolutely gorgeous easy to swim in the beautiful warm sea. They had docks out into the sea with chairs to sit on which was wonderful we loved sitting on them in the morning and at sunset to watch the sun go down with a drink. They was also kayaks to use which was great and we saw lots of manatee which was a wonderful experience. Loved this little place and would love to back

The only is issue we had was the air con was very old it did the job but was so loud

The site was very quirky and quaint. Each cottage is unique. They are small and basic but provide enough for your needs. We had a double which had a covered porch with seating which was absolutely perfect as it extended the cottage. It didn't matter whether it was raining or not, it was a lovely place to sit and relax. All the cottages have outside seating but they are not all covered or private.The site itself is lovely with tree lined walkways down to the private beach and dock area. I spent many early mornings sat there, peacefully waiting to watch the sunrise and the hope of a manatee ok dolphin passing by. The staff were really nice and helped to make this a little piece of paradise. An issue with the first cottage we stayed in on our night of arrival was dealt with instantly and very effectively which was very reassuring to see. This led to us moving into our lovely little cottage while they addressed the issue.

The overseas highway is right on the doorstep and doesn't seem to ever go quiet however it didn't disturb us even though our cottage was really close to it.

Good location , short walk to several local restaurants. Nice small beach area for sunset viewing. Office staff are very welcoming and helpful. This was our third stay at this property over a span of 30 years. It has a nostalgic old Florida feel.

On this stay , we had the cottage directly behind the office. The road noise was quite loud due to the proximity to the main highway. I’d recommend booking a cottage further back in the property. The window AC unit was also quite noisy. Neither of those things would deter me from booking at this property again though.

Charming, old Keys mom n pop vibe. Nothing fancy, if you’re a ‘resort’ minded traveler. Pelican cottages are laid back, with a variety of accommodations from an economy room to homey waterfront villas. The beach is fantastic, spacious with plenty of chairs and a tiki for shade. 3 docks to accommodate boats or fishing and seating at the end of each for viewing the sunset and relaxing. Take out a complimentary kayak also! It’s mom n pop… so if you are luxury minded, keep moving. Some of the cottages are a tad dated, but clean and comfortable. My Queen room was updated and bright.

Only thing that threw me was needing a quarter for the ice machine. But I guess that prevents boaters from filling up multiple coolers for their outings. The front desk gave me a quarter because I didn’t have one on me. .25 gets you a room bucket full.

The pretty pastel cottages, all the gorgeous trees and flowering plants, the free kayaks, the handy laundry room next to the tiki huts, a place to park so close to our cottage, the beach right on the property, all the Anhinga birds and Pelicans hanging out on the anchored boats and sometimes manatee sightings, the friendly housekeeping staff --All so wonderful!!

Maybe a dimmer on the light in the kitchen/eating area (was really bright). Windows that could open instead of always having to use the AC/fan unit. The scuttled boat in the bay; saw an old refrigerator along the shore in the hammock (from hurricane damage?); the water felt a little iffy/oily possibly from leakage from that boat or others, not sure I'd want to swim in it.

The location is lovely. The docks had nice Adirondack chairs for enjoying the view. My grandson took advantage of the free kayak use, and my husband enjoyed the hammock. There was a 4-person table and chairs outside our unit that we used to play cards in the evening. The room was small, but we didn't spend much time there because we spent most of our time outdoors. It looked like the room had been recently updated and was very clean. We appreciated the restaurant suggestions and used two of their suggestions while we were there.

We would have liked a chair inside of the room to use for putting on shoes (we're old and the bed was a bit high for that.) And I was surprised to find the ice machine required a quarter - not really a big issue except I had to go back to the unit for a quarter and return. I guess that might keep people from filling coolers with ice?

Wonderful location. Sitting in docks looking for manatees saw a dolphin swim past. Helpful receptionist, good dinner suggestion. Comfy bed. Coffee machine matched coffee bags. Fridge and microwave. Still better if we could have a teaspoon not a straw. Good washing machine and dryer, $2 dry did dry full load. Stunning sunsets from the docks. Best towels I had out of the four places I stayed on this trip.

Room was a little small. I was on my own so not a worry but you could only access one side of bed.
