I slept on an extremely comfortable futon, and was given everything needed to recharge at the end of a long day exploring Yakushima and be prepared for the next one. The staff were incredibly fun and welcoming, and did an excellent job of checking in on every guests itinerary for the day to make sure they had what they needed/knew how to get there and back in one piece. The breakfast bentos and optional lunch bentos were a convenient and filling way to feed an all-day hike. Everything was exceptional.

The owner was very helpful and informative. The location is good for travellers with rental cars or backpackers who rely on public transport. It is very close to bus stations, essential for travellers who don't drive. Packed bentos were very well considered for travellers wishing to start their hiking journey early in the morning.

The ventilation of bathrooms is not that great so that it could get relatively humid.

The whole crew of Suginoko is awesome! They try to help you with everything and make the best out of your stay. Even if the communication always takes a while by using the translator they never get tired answering your question or giving recommendations. Ayumi thank you for everything - you are such an adorable person!

Extremely friendly and accommodating staff. Very clean and comfortable areas, and delicious breakfast and lunch!

Close to Anbo Port and restaurants (about a 25-35 minute walk if you don’t have a car). Bus stops conveniently located for trips to Jomon Sugi & YakusugiLand. Ask host or information centre for times and locations. Friendly staff. I recommend at least 3 full days in Yakushima.

The bamboo leaf bento is really delicious, and the host is nice and responsibility.

The mattress.

The host is extremely kind and attentive! She took care to help with dinner reservations, and the daily lunchtime bento was wonderful. She encourages guests to be respectful of each other due to some waking up very early for hikes, so the accommodation is warm and welcoming but also peaceful. It is clean and has everything you need. Thank you!

The property was in a great location with easy access to some of the best restaurants on the island. I have been to Japan 5 times and, while I have stayed with many hosts that I enjoyed, Ayumi was the only host to offer to make dinner reservations for me which I thought was amazing. Every time we were in the common area she was there with us, having fun, and making an effort to keep us entertained. We loved her personality. The rooms were comfortable and we appreciated that the property was on it's own and outside of town. When you open the windows, you can hear the sound of nature without the rushing of cars/scooters. Each room comes with its own bathroom which is great as well. Each day we received bento boxes which is such a nice touch! It's hard to find time to stop the days events to get some food and with these we could eat on the go which we loved.

I had two spiders in my room that I was too scared to confront. I decided that I would coexist and they never bothered me. There is a sign at the front mentioning that the staff will remove the bugs for you if you request it!

This place and its staff are awesome!!! What a spot. Very helpful, very comfy and the breakfast was amazing!!
