Chose this as a handy dog-friendly stop over for the night, just off the A1 and a couple of miles from Bedale, wish we could have stayed longer. A really lovely pub that is community owned and is was a very cosy place, decorated for Christmas. There was warm and welcoming service from the very friendly staff. The locals were great and kept us entertained with some very funny stories. We enjoyed the food and there was a really good range of local beers and other drinks. Our room was very spacious with nice decor. I loved the joke book! I would definitely come back here and explore more of the local area.
Loved it all! Ticked all the boxes. Only thing I can think of was the orange juice for breakfast was more like a squash but wasn't really bothered as the whole stay was good value for money.

Smooth check-in with friendly staff. The pub was clean and well maintained. Evening menu suited our needs after a long day. Bedroom was clean and tidy. Local outside temperature was around 3 degrees so asked if the room temperature could be tweeked and it was. Breakfast was plentiful and hot. One fact we discovered was it was a "Community" owned pub! A great credit to the locals who have made it work!
The stairs to the bedrooms are a little steep and I would say "Could be" difficult for OAP's. One frustrating point for us was that "We" could not get the "Basic" TV stations like BBC/ITV for news/weather. This could be "Finger trouble" on our behalf. But there are plenty of extra options like Netflic and ITV-X.

From the first impressions to leaving after breakfast the next morning,we had a really good experience. All staff were really friendly, helpful and professional with a natural warmth. The selection of drinks went down very well! Both the evening meal and breakfast were spot on and we had a lovely room at a great offer price.Highly recommend - just wish we lived closer! Fantastic little find and how all places should be run.
Not a dislike but more little suggestions 🙂We would have welcomed being able to adjust the heat in the room as it was set for toastiness but got too warm at night after a belly full of the yummy food 🙃We would have also liked slightly bigger towels but both are based on personal preference and certainly did not detract from a fabulous, very much enjoyed stay 🫶

The food ( we had lunch, evening meal and breakfast) was excellent throughput. Everything was good quality product and was cooked so well. The blt I had for lunch was the vest I've ever had, and the twice fried chips were out of this world! The room was very comfortable, cosy , clean and well equipped. Probably the best part of the stay, though, wre the staff. They were all friendly, helpful and made us feel really welcome throughout the stay. It's a place we will remember very fondly and will return to when we're in the area. Excellent all round and highly recommended!
Nothing!

Superb atmosphere. Lovely staff. Great food. Very tasty steak and ale pie. The chef is a top bloke. Comfy bed. Nice decor. Great location just off the a1 motorway in quaint little village of Exelby, but you don't feel as tho your near the motorway.
Room was cold at first but soon warmed up after telling staff to turn it up as we weren't allowed to touch the thermostat. Shower is a little low for anyone over 5 ft 10. Doorways low as it's an old building so a lot of ducking through doorways. Overall it was a lovely place.

The room was spacious and comfortable, with a useful seating area which is very uncommon. Usually you find a relatively small room and end up watching TV sitting on the bed. This was very different - soacious and we’ll laid out. Evening meal and breakfast were both excellent, and the selection of beers was refreshing - rather than the usual choice of interchangeable “premium lagers” and Doom Bar, there was a fantastic range of beers of all sorts on tap, and in cans/bottles. Great to see.
No complaints at all

High standard of house keeping. Comfortable room. Friendly and helpful landlord and staff. Delicious breakfast of local produce. Great coffee. Really enjoyed my stay,
The accommodation part of the building is very old with an interesting history. Dates back to 16th Century. Walls too thick to get a TV signal so no live terrestrial channels. Streaming services instead. Maybe mention this in room description to manage expectations. Was in room 2 right above front door of the pub, so every time the door shut, the floor shook. Again, down to age and original construction. Nothing can be done about it and not an issue after closing time.

I recently stayed at the Exelby Green Dragon but had to head out early for a meeting, so I missed the breakfast. Even though my visit was short, the place felt really welcoming and cosy. Everyone working there was super friendly, giving the whole place a relaxed, family vibe. I did get to try the dinner, and the homemade pie was brilliant – definitely a highlight. They’ve also got a great range of real ales, which I appreciated. If you’re looking for a laid-back spot with good food and drink, this is it. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re in the area.
The only minor downside was missing their breakfast due to an early meeting, which was a tad disappointing given everything else was spot on. But that’s more down to my tight schedule than any fault of the Exelby Green Dragon itself. It certainly doesn’t detract from an otherwise brilliant stay.

Location is a small village not far away from Bedale, there is only the Pub in the village so if you need to have a shop then you will have to travel to next town. The pub is very cosy and staff very friendly. There is definitely a local pub feel to it and all the locals seem to use it. The room we had is on the small side but still very comfy with on suite shower and toilet. The pub food is very good and decent portions. The breakfast also is very good.
Nothing that springs to mind

Located just off the A1 in a small village this was an ideal location to break our trip south. We had a lovely room above this community pub with a comfortable bed and nice shower room. We chose the pub because it is dog friendly.
There was no way to control the heating so we had to open windows despite bad weather - only until the room cooled down but not sure how this would work in summer. It does say you can speak to staff but not worth it for one night.
