The welcome was great, which started a good experience. I arrived in the dark and when I went into the bar to check I was in the right place (which was actually very easy to find), one of the young ladies showed me to the car park and the location of the room. So the check-in was perfect. Despite my late arrival there was enthusiasm to see me fed and the full menu was offered. There were some very good "specials" on the board which were sold out (a reflection of the level of custom the business has and deserves) but there were no restrictions on what I could choose from. My dinner was delivered to my table, hot and delicious. The breakfast the next morning repeated the experience, with the choices being excellent and what I ordered arrived quickly and freshly made. The room was a small suite with all the facilities I would expect. It was clean, quiet, cosy and very comfortable.

This is doesn't really deserve to be "What I didn't like" but something I would think is positive honest feedback. The room could do with a new shower head.

The Old Oak Tree was an ideal stopping off point between Shetland and the New Forest. Very handy for access from A1 or A19, and minutes from the centre of Thirsk. We were warmly welcomed (like old friends) and were delighted with our accommodation. We decided to dine in the pub, and were mightily impressed by the number of diners and the quality of the food. After a blissful night’s sleep breakfast was a delicious as dinner the evening before. We returned in the evening for our second night, when we were joined by two friends for dinner. There were a few hiccups over ordering welcome drinks for our guests but just minor inconveniences rather than a hassle. Another gorgeous meal and a sleep in slumberland affirmed that in the Old Oak Tree we had discovered a gem of a place to stay! It was a big plus that our dogs were welcomed too.

Things I’d improve? If welcoming dogs, perhaps provide an area of the extensive garden were dogs could be safely exercised off lead without risk of them running up to the road. Also, over-bath showers are a perilous hazard for anyone with a mobility disability, even with a non-slip rubber mat …. just saying!

The rooms are in a separate building from the main pub which I liked. The room was comfortable and large with a good bathroom. Hot drink making facilities and a fridge provided. The location is pretty good if you are travelling by car (which I was) as the location is about a couple of minutes from the A19 junction at the North end of Thirsk. Also only about 10 to 15 minutes by car to Sutton Bank and into the North Yorkshire Moors. Travelling by train would be much more difficult. Whilst there is a station at Thirsk it is out of town in completely the opposite direction maybe three miles away. Breakfast was fried up on demand rather than microwaved so that is a definite plus.

This isn't a dislike so much as a FYI: I noticed a flier in the room that said that air conditioning was available at an additional charge of £5 per night due to energy costs. As early June 2024 still felt like winter it didn't affect me.

Stunning. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was 1 of 5 rooms in a converted barn. A beautiful space, everything you could want and more. Super clean, spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated and well laid out. Even a fridge is included. A great menu and the food was exceptional. In this cosy family run establishment. Located in a great area for getting out in the glorious Yorkshire countryside, and Thirsk, home of the James Herriot World. Can't recommend The Old Oak Tree enough if you want a great night's stay.

Everything was great.

We had stayed before, so knew what to expect. The facilities are very good and rooms are spacious. The hotel is excellently situated near major roads, but still quiet. The restaurant is very good (and popular), the menu is large and the chef is great. We were travelling through from Scotland and broke our journey here for one night, but know from previous experience that the locality has many things of interest.

Maybe a hand rail over the bath for the shower, but it was not a problem. Everything else was great. I cannot fault anything else.

Excellent all round. Well run establishment with friendly and efficient staff. Very busy on both nights but the food was fantastic and all the staff worked hard to make the whole experience enjoyable. The room was clean and modern with good facilities including tea, coffee, etc., a fridge, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and straighteners and a large bathroom with a powerful shower. Breakfast was also lovely with a good selection. There is also a large outdoor area with tables which was great for enjoying a drink in the sun.

We liked everything. No negatives at all for us to mention. Our room (as I think they all are) was part of an external annex, only 5 yards or so from the main premises, but still all part of the same site. This was actually nice for us as sometimes in some places a room over a busy bar can be noisy. Not the case here though. Our room was spacious and very tasteful. Curtains and venetian blinds for privacy, large bed, nicely carpeted, a good-sized mirror over a dressing table and chair with sockets very close (wife liked this), nice lighting with wall switches next to bed, nice spotlessly clean bath / shower combo, good hot towel rail, a good hospitality tray, a fridge with complimentary bottled water, a very comfy two-seater couch (you rarely get a chair, let alone a couch in many places so this was a nice touch), writing desk and chair near TV and alarm clock. Another bonus was a high ceiling with a "Velux" type of overhead window which was operated to open/close privacy blind using a small remote control. A comfy and nicely appointed room. Given that South Kilvington is very close to Thirsk, we had originally thought to have evening dinner in Thirsk but we decided instead to eat in the pub itself and we were very pleased that we did so, as the food was lovely. I had a soup which I'd rate as the best I've had and my wife enjoyed her own choice. Main courses were super too, with a nice choice on the main dinner menu but also with a very tempting special;s board. A good choice of beer and other drinks, so we indulged and enjoyed. Breakfast was very nice with a good choice and we went for the cereals and full English with toast and very good tea and coffee. Have to mention that we were made very welcome on arrival and that the service was very friendly, attentive and professional. Nothing was any trouble and we could not have asked for better guest care.

Friendly staff. Breakfast well cooked and plentiful. Location perfect with plenty of free parking. Rooms very large and well stocked. Liked having a sofa so don't have to sit on bed. Love the Mouseman furniture. Having a fridge in room is helpful. Very easy check in process.

The mattress was a bit too firm for me so I had a disturbed sleep (but understand it is a personal taste). Nothing against the property but a heads-up to those staying that bin men come early and it is right outside the rooms.

The room was very well decorated with beautiful furniture and the bed was very comfy. And great pillows great to have a fridge in our room as my service dog has chicken mashed potatoes and mixed veg for her food. Very nice room we liked it so much we've booked again for next April. Food was excellent quality and service. Joe was very attentive to if I needed anything else for my service dog. Breakfast was very good quality and service. And we wasn't rushed to leave.

Didn't like the noise from the Rd at night. And how light the bedroom was it snowed while we we're there. But sadly the car park or path outside the rooms or to the breakfast room wasn't gritted and I'm disabled with a stick and service dog.

The hotel, although about one and a half miles out of Thirsk, is ideally situated for visiting many of the most interesting sights of this part of Yorkshire. The hotel has ample parking space and the rooms are comfortable, clean and warm. The restaurant is excellent and we had two first class evening meals there. The breakfast was also first class. Without exception, all the staff we met were cheerful and very helpful. The price paid was very good value. We would be happy to stay here again
