Pemba did her utmost to welcome us and make us feel at home. She cooked us a delicious, healthy gluten free porridge for breakfast and made us wonderful Indian food for supper, like prawn curry and butter chicken, as well as fresh local salmon. She gave us knowledgeable advise about the island, and a very special send-off the evening before we left. We felt very pampered! There are comfortable seating areas, inside and out, overlooking the bay. The hotel is not far from the pub, which has live local entertainment to join in on on Saturday night. A memorable experience.

The Nimpkish Hotel is located in Alert Bay, a beautiful small village on Cormorant Island, reachable by ferry from Port McNeill. It is the home of several Namgis people, and it hosts many beautiful Totems and natives houses, as well as an important museum at the U'mista Cultural Centre. The Nimpkish Hotel is very close to the town centre and to the BC Ferry dock (about 1km). The staff is very friendly, and at the restaurant you can have very good and fresh fish. If the weather is nice, you can also enjoy stunning views of the bay from their patio. Breakfast is self served, but they already prepare everything for you in the kitchen, so you just have to pick up what you want :) and the view from the breakfast is again great, especially in the early morning (e.g. at Sunrise).if you can, take the opportunity also to try the Whale Watching Tour with Seasmoke Whale Watching, whose boat departs a few hundred metres from the hotel.

What a fantastic place! Very warm welcome from Penba and his husband who are managing this beautiful hotel. We looooved the oceanfront outside patio which got everything to feel cozy and relaxed : hammock, comfy sofas, you name it! Very quiet, room and the whole hotel was sparkling! Penba is also a wonderful cook so we had dinner in the bright living room, gazing at the ocean while eating a super flavourful homemade palek paneer! I walked all along the seaside and up to see the world's tallest totem pole, and looked at all the Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw art and history along the walk. So instructive and beautiful! Did not go to the cultural center as I arrived too late but it is a good excuse to come back and stay at the Nimpkish Hotel again!

Lovely sunroof to sit in and look out to the water, coffee and tea available all day. Breakfast next morning had lots of different fruit, yoghurt and baked goods. There was a power cut so we couldn't make toast. They managed to make us coffee downstairs (where I think they had a generator). We had a beautiful meal in the downstairs restaurant, basic decor but with the view and superb food it was well worth it.

We had such a relaxing and unique stay at this beautiful 100 year old hotel. The hosts were so kind and welcoming and the continental breakfast was such a welcome surprise. Our kids loved going down for juice and yogurt and it such a bonus to have coffee first thing! The restaurant on site was phenomenal- we had the coconut shrimp curry, fish and chips and the linguini, all amazing and homemade with love. Would stay again!

The couple that manages the hotel is very friendly and helpful. She is a professional chef who puts the most delicious dishes on the table. Both hosts gave us a lot of information about the area, the wildlife and they are really interested in the guests. The hotel is in a quiet area and if you are lucky, you can see the whales and dolphins passing by from the terrace.

If you've never been to Alert Bay, go now and spend the night at the Nimpkish Hotel. It's an historic building in a spectacular setting and it's been lovingly restored. The managers are friendly, informative, helpful - and great cooks. If you've forgotten what quiet sounds like, this is the place to relearn. Spend a few hours at the U'mista cultural centre, admire the many totems in the community and settle in with a drink on the deck.

Staff was wonderful and interested in our comfort and experience. The breakfast buffet was great and it felt like home. The location couldn't be better. We enjoyed the boutique feel of the hotel and our room.

The price was on the high side but understandable based on the location, the season and all of the issues the hospitality industry has endured for the past three years.

Loved looking out of our bedroom (#7) overlooking the ocean. The continental breakfast was exceptional with blackberry crumble, devilled eggs and a yogurt and fresh fruit cup...plus homemade blackberry jam on a bagel - I was happily stuffed! The hotel is a historical building and so our balcony looked a bit worn out - I gave a rating of 9, rather than a 10, because it is simple, elegant and clean - I have stayed in more upmarket hotels but I thoroughly enjoyed this special place. Most everything is old and historical in Alert Bay so I would not expect more luxurious than the Nimpkish. I imagine it is the finest accommodation in the area. The hosts were warm. friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. A lovely place run by super people.

I would have liked a kettle in our room but we were able to boil water downstairs in the kitchen area and bring kitchen cups upstairs for our early morning instant coffee.

Great accommodation! From the terrace you have a spectacular view of the water. Here we saw seals and sea otters. I still got pasta with chicken even though we arrived late in the evening. We also got a better room for free. The owner was incredibly friendly. It was a great stay. Greetings from Germany
