The breakfast was great. The kayaks were comfortable and easy to use. The staff was super helpful. The grounds were perfect for just”chilling”!

It was probably me, but it was not clear (to me) on your website what the different accommodations were like. As a result i booked a “bungalow” that has a completely different meaning to me. We are elderly, in our 80s and obviously a bed on the floor and a trek to the facilities in the middle of the night would not work. Fortunately, there was space available for an upgrade. I was also surprised at the amount of noise that could be heard from the road.

Wow. We will remember CasaBakal for a very long time! It's an absolutely beautiful slice of paradise. Here's what we loved: 1. The staff - everyone is just lovely. Friendly and attentive without being intrusive; they all seem to be having a good time themselves and that makes for a really comfortable experience. Whatever you need is sorted, from drinks to paddle boards and sailing trips. Every staff member was super nice and thoughtful. They keep it vibey too, with soft Mali music playing during the day round the pool. 2. The location - jumping off the jetty into the crystal clear turquoise water just steps from your room is an amazing experience. The location is perfect, the lake is right there and it's only a 5m taxi ride into the centre for restaurants etc. 3. The food - a great buffet breakfast included every morning with fruit, cheese, toast, yoghurt, eggs, pancakes... The full works! And then delicious options at lunch and dinner too - we are a family of 5 with 3 fussy teenagers and they wanted to eat here all the time. 4. The sailing trip - there is a sail team on site who can take you out on the boat to explore the lake. It's a 3 hour trip and we had three swim breaks. Just lush. Be warned though - you cannot use sunscreen once on the lake (to protect the water) so be sure to cover up.

We took two rooms - a standard double and a room sleeping four for our teenage children. The double was fine but the room sleeping four had definitely seen better days - the windows and curtains did not shut properly; there were some ants under one of the beds; and the shower lacked pressure and was cold. So I would suggest making another room choice. Like I say, our double was fine - good bed, AC, good shower etc.

Beautiful hotel right on the lagoon. Loved that we didn't have to leave as the hotel has everything you could need for a stay on the lagoon - kayaks, paddleboards, restaurant, etc. The location is close to the center if you want to go into town. Our room was comfy and had a great view of the lagoon. Absolutely loved that it was petfriendly - our Frenchie had the best time ever. So relaxing and beautiful.

The pool is on the smaller side and felt like it was just for kids -I would have liked to lay by the pool & read a book, but it wasn't the vibe. Would have been great to have access to the kayaks & paddleboards earlier than 8am so we could go out on the lagoon and sunrise.

Really good location-10 mins from bus station by taxi, a bit far to walk to all the restaurants but there was a restaurant right next to our hotel. Good room size, good size bed, comfortable cushions. Really good breakfast, so many choices , very tasty! Free use of kayaks and paddling boards. Cherry on top- beautiful lagoon! In fact, one of the best in Bacalar.

Although our room was clean there were dead, smudged mosquitoes all over the walls. The throw they put on our bed needs to be chucked away, all covered in bleach stains. That’s not acceptable for that level of money I’ve paid for the room. Would be amazing to have a long mirror in the room.

Our second time here. Fantastic Location. Right by the lagoon. The three pontoons are great for getting into the water. The paddle boards and kayaks are free of charge. The server who made our cocktails takes his time and they taste so good. The breakfast is of great variety and very nice. The hotel has everything you want

The hotel is starting to increase a lot in price which is a shame as we would have stayed more nights. One night there was a very drunk guest who was looking for trouble and bothering ourselves and other guests. The staff should know when to stop serving alcohol to guests that drink too much as there are families and small children at this hotel

Breakfast was incredible and very very large. Location was stunning, right on the lagoon but with grass area and pool and lots of space and privacy in the rooms. Great for our young kids. Free kayak and SUP usage also perfect and very professionally run. All the food we had was delicious and great cocktails. Also had one of the best massages ever! highly recommend.

Service for food and drinks was quite slow. The kitchen in our studio was not very well stocked with equipment or cups/plates etc.

The location was amazing - the pool, the lagoon and hiring kayaks were the highlights for us. The restaurant served delicious, healthy food (yummy tacos, salads) and great cocktails/ smoothies. It had some great options for kids too (pasta, veg sticks). The breakfast changed daily but had a good choice of Mexican and western foods. The staff were helpful recommending local restaurants and trips.

We stayed in the main hotel which was quite old - our room (a quadruple) was smaller than we imagined for 4 of us - and it could do with a bit of a refresh. The bathroom had some black mould and the toilet seat was broken. The room was quite damp - a paint refresh and some new windows would help. But we decided the overall location and facilities outweighed all this! There are dogs that live at the hotel - so a warning if you're not a fan of them, as they jumped up on our toddler.

Everything. Location - The property’s location is ideal. The view is as shown by the pictures. It’s located close to the bird island - you can hear birds singing all day. And the pier has a little ladder from which you can go down in the water. It’s beautiful: just white sand and clear water! Activities - We spent most of the days at the hotel, where the water is incredibly clear - perfect to swim - and where kayak, paddle and catamaran were available. We also took a tour from another place 5min walk away. If you are here for the lagoon, this is the perfect spot. If you’re here to see the city, the centre is quite far off but taxis can take you there. Food - We ate a brunch everyday. They serve breakfast from 8 to 11 and there’s for all the tastes. My brother loves savoury breakfast, whilst I am more cereals/ pancakes or jam on toast type of person, and we both were very pleased with the options. Room - We had set our heart on the bungalows to start with but ultimately took the bedroom with lake view. This room was great! A beautiful view and the balcony - we cannot ask for more. The A/C is life saving. We arrived our bedroom felt quite humid but within 10min, it was fresh and cold. Finally, a cleaner comes everyday. Staff - The staff was lovely! We had a bad start of trip and the taxi we had booked never picked us up. The hotel sorted it all for us. They were wearing a smile, and happy to answer any questions in Spanish or English! We felt very welcomed. Something I feared but there was none: mosquitos! This made everything even better.

N/A - The room/ bathroom was a bit simplistic but we personally thought it contributed to the charm of the place, or in no way took away from the breathtaking view we had! We were sad to leave!

Casa Bakal is a great place to hang by the lagoon. I visit Bacalar often, and Casa Bakal is always my top choice of places to stay. It is really beautiful, and in a very pretty part of the lagoon. The staff, the facilities, and the rooms are great. I would highly recommend.

A couple of things to improve... not necessarily criticism. One of the beds in the lagoon front Glamping room definitely needs to be replaced- as well the doors on this unit get stuck. I do feel like they could improve on the lounge chairs and the cushions. My biggest criticism is the food. I'm not sure if they changed chefs, but unfortunately, I was very displeased with the food on this visit. I got several meals there, and most were mediocre at best. All the meats were overcooked, and the salads had too much dressing. Hopefully they can figure out what is going on with the kitchen, this is the first time I have had complaints about the food.

1. It’s the perfect location in the lagoon. 2. The staff are super friendly. 3. It’s dog friendly. 4. The included kayaks, paddle boards & breakfast. 5. The breakfast variety (fruits, juices, coffee, eggs, Mexican breakfast, yogurt, pancakes) 6. The security person by the entrance all the time makes you feel safe. 7. 3 different piers. 8. At an additional cost they offer alcohol and non-alcohol drinks as well as meals during the day.

1. The bathroom needs maintenance as it was rusty. 2. The rooms are not soundproof which is not nice if you’re in the room next to the road :( 3. At the entrance of the room there should be a floor mat to wipe your feet. 4. Too many wasps and bees during breakfast. It would be a great idea to close the dining area with glass doors so we avoid having bees next to our food.
