The complex had everything we needed to adventure out so isn’t need to drive anywhere. The staff were really nice. My daughter was bitten by some sort on insect in the room and paramedic was there within 5 minutes to tend to her. He was such a kind knowledgeable man. We were really grateful that he was there. We literally WhatsApp reception and he was there so quickly. There is security everywhere on the complex and we felt safe at all times. They had the best waterfall lagoon we have seen so far in Costa Rica. The hot springs were amazing too.

The food was more like a fat food joint like when you go to Chessington world of adventures or Disney world and pretty expensive for what it was. Having said this our waiter could not do enough for us. He was engaging and funny. The other thing we didn’t like was the hype about one of the waterfalls. It wasn’t even a waterfall. It was such an anticlimax when we got there after a big long hike to it. Nevertheless the rest of the places were spot on.

Hacienda Guachipelin is nestled within Rincon de la Vieja National Park, offering convenient access to hikes featuring stunning waterfalls, volcanic activity, and abundant wildlife. We encountered multiple species of monkeys and birds during our trail explorations. On the hotel grounds, we spotted numerous hummingbirds, owls, and even an iguana right by the hammock outside our room. At night, the stars were remarkably clear. The adventure tour operated by the property included activities such as horseback riding, white water tubing, and ziplining. Notably, the bathroom soaps are specially crafted for Hacienda Guachipelin, with delightful scents like coconut, ylang-ylang, and green apple. The hotel restaurants serve exceptionally good food accompanied by attentive staff. The breakfast buffet offers a variety of fresh tropical fruits, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and local dishes such as chorizo, beans and rice, and fried cheese. Additionally, there are numerous restaurants and shopping opportunities a few miles away in Liberia.

need to make sure to have some protection from biting flies and mosquitoes specifically during hiking and the adventure trips.

We enjoyed our stay here. The staff was really friendly and welcoming and there is a ton of stuff to explore in the area. You charge everything to your room, so it's nice not to have to carry money with you. Breakfast was a buffet, lunch with the adventure pass is a buffet, and you have several options for dinner - including a buffet. My kiddo loves a buffet and I enjoyed getting to try lots of different Costa Rican dishes. We saw and heard a ton of birds from our room and were able to walk to some of the natural attractions. We did the tour with horseback riding, river tubing, lunch, ziplining, and hotsprings. It was all good, but the ziplining felt kind of rushed.

The pool was really shallow

The rooms are large, clean and well-appointed. The grounds are well-kept, and the staff is helpful. Customer service was excellent. Breakfast buffet was great. It was also nice to have the Hot Springs on site, even though this required a drive to get there and access. Additionally it was lovely to be able to visit the waterfalls right on site, and to access Rincon de la Vieja National Park very easily without leaving the property.

The property is very large and there a loads of people both staying there and visiting for day trips and excursions. The "mud bath" was not really what you'd imagine. It was more "touristy" than we were prepared for, but everything was well done as far as that goes!

Everything was great! Staff were the best! Rooms were standard hotel styel but clean and comfortable with a local flare. Activities right on sight lots of access to amazing spots. Be in mature in minutes. Food options really great with an amazing buffet! Horses are well cared for which is important to me when I do trail rides. That was a plus.

Creepy mask people at every entrance. Felt weird. No explanation until inasked. Try including in a sign. Would terrify young kids. No ATM and all the tips are in cash. I felt like a jerk not tipping as it is custom in the US. The staff didn't seem to mind but I WANTED to tip. And didn't realize I couldn't easily draw out money. It's a fair drive from town so I didn't have time to run back get cash and still make the activities and get rest. Take cash! And save money for gift store! Good little gift shop. Get good directions when going anywhere out of the main area too!

We loved the location and the free access as hotel guests to several Waterfalls and the hot springs. That alone made the stay worthwhile. The breakfast was also exceptional as a buffet. It's nice to have several restaurants on site and there are so many things to do nearby. I definitely would stay at this hotel next time. The pool was also very nice.

The room we were in had older windows that opened and closed like blinds, so some noise still came through. My sisters room was updated with newer windows. Also we didn't have a hammock by our room which I had been looking forward to. I didn't realize that when booking. I would pay extra for the updated rooms next time.

We just did the free activities (multiple waterfalls, hotsprings as well as Vieja national park) and were blown away by the value of those experiences and there's an impressive range of other experiences and tours available for anyone seeking a fairly active holiday. All through the day, we felt surrounded beauty of the hotel gardens, range of landscapes (rainforest, drier volcanic formations), and birdwatching. The breakfast is buffet style where you can request a fried egg at the grill; many sweet/savory, Costa Rican/American, healthy/more indulgent options.

The lodge is relatively isolated so the dinner menu might feel limited for stays that are 3 or more nights. But the meals were well prepared, very fresh, and the price and portion size were fair. There were a few discrepancies between the staff and some of the guides/maps about the hours of certain activities, for example one staff told us that the waterfalls were open until 5 pm (property map said 4:30 pm), and earliest dinner was 6 pm (map said 06:30 pm).

We loved how well thought out the property is. There is a lot to see and experience and while it’s all on site, it is spread out. So you have the convenience of everything in proximity but it’s not on top of each other. Also there is a sense of authenticity about the place. The culture is very much felt and celebrated. The staff was amazing. So hard working and delightful. The rooms were comfortable and the hammocks and seating areas outside were so relaxing. We loved all the activities and hikes and the close proximity to the Liberia airport.

There is nothing we didn’t enjoy.

- Very nice property - next to Rincon de la Vieja park - beautiful swimming pool - amazing breakfast - lots of options for dinner on-site - hot springs and access to river/waterfalls are included

- cold ladies at the reception who seemed annoyed by our presence and questions (however, all the other staff members who do not work at the reception were super friendly) - too many rules. Difficult to feel welcome and relax if you first have to listen to the long list of fines that you will have to pay if you lose something - 10$ for a bottle of craft beer at the swimming pool is excessive

Staff was exceptionally pleasant. Facilities were good. The tours included with the stay were nice (although the bus shuttle was only every 3 hours so there was a lot of waiting on the bus). The bus was a very old school bus, but not sure other shuttles could have made it on the primitive roads. The pool was very nice.

Very expensive ($500/night) but this was at Christmas so the prices may have been increased (or surge pricing, the hotel seemed full).
