Like many other guests, we enjoyed the helpful attentive staff, excellent breakfast and dinner, and private onsen. We are in our 70s and walk slow. The hotel is in a basin and close to Lake Kinrin. It is also close to touristy things like the classic motor.museum and floral village but not so close that you have to see them. A very pleasant stay and we intend to go back next time in Yufuin.
There was tea but no coffee in the room. And many things for sale in the lobby and machines. But not coffee. It made me think of the old Dubliners song "A Pub with no Beer." Stay here, but bring your own coffee packets.

Location, dinner, staff were trying hard to accommodate food allergies we forgot to mention in advance. And provided a solution for our booked dinner. Comfortable big room and beds, the size of the room was pretty big, not always the case in Japan. Was very good.
We didn’t book breakfast in advance, and when asking to have one when we checked in the day before, they said they are full and can’t have us. It’s surprising that paying guess cant have breakfast. No options were presented, we would have been happy with something small rather then the booked breakfast, we had an early start and nothing was open in the village first thing in the morning …

the staff is super friendly, warm welcoming, very helpful! Breakfast and Dinner was very nice too!! location was close to the main shopping street! After check out we can leave our car there, so we don't need to driving around the narrow road to find a car park if you want to have a walk on the shopping street. Lucky that we go back to get the car, as we have left a Airpot under the pillow !!
The room, toilet and in room shower may be a bit old style, private on-zen the preparation room is a bit small for a family of 4 , but if a couple it is ok.... general was good!!! If the room, toilet and in room shower renovated, it will be 10/10

The hotel and room is very spacious. Staffs are extremely polite, professional and helpful. Food are very tasty. The restaurant where we have breakfast have a stunning view. I have a very unforgettable memory with my parents and family there!
We took a bit late flight and only arrived Yufuin around 7pm and there was no taxi, uber that can take us to the hotel and gave us a bit hard time of walking with our luggages and in the dark especially for my elderly parents, luckily we make the time to enjoy our delicious dinner there.

staff were great and very responsive if you ask anything on booking.com. there are public and private onsen you can book in advance, private onsen is really great! lots of guides and great info given during check in as well so we were able to use the facilities. dinner was nice too but we opt out for breakfast as there are plenty of food choices in yufuin in the morning. location slightly far from JR station but walkable. its just around the famous floral village and kinrin lake.

A hotel that really pays attention to the details, with superb staff who were very considerate, and helped hold the room keys for us when we were entering and exiting. The little touches like a free bag, tabi socks and nail clippers were a lovely addition and souvenir. Our room was spacious, with extremely high ceilings, Western beds, and a tatami area with kotatsu at the end. The room furnishings and bathroom facilities were on the older side, but was clean and impeccably maintained - the humidifier was very appreciated given how cold and dry it was. The ryokan complex also boasted ping pong rooms, libraries etc. that would be great for larger group activities. You can book three of their cosy onsen for a private session, which was great for couples, including Yawaragi-no-yu, which had a beautiful view of the mountains in the distance and is my top recommendation. The location was quiet but only a 5-10min walk from Lake Kinrinko, so highly recommend going there in the morning to see the mist on the lake, and and the main street in Yufuin, and had plenty of parking space. This ryokan is on the pricier side but worth the premium and experience to stay there.
Overall the food - including the breakfast and kaiseki dinner with sukiyaki fatty marbled beef - was very good but the soy sauce and sukiyaki sauce was a little too sweet for my preference; the sukiyaki also cooked a little unevenly because it was all served at once with vegetables. Other than that small detail, it was hard to fault!

The staff were excellent and one of the most enjoyable aspects of our stay. They were so courteous, responsive and helpful. They arranged the transfer of our luggage to our next destination, the meal service was incredible, and the different onsen are one of the best reasons to stay here. Dinner and breakfast were wonderful, every meal was a great kaiseki experience.
It wasn't a huge negative, but our room seemed like the original furnishings and fixtures from the 1960s. However, this is offset by the incredible cleanliness and large space and high ceiling.

They said they upgraded our room, which made us quite happy. We went to the public hot spring, and I remember it was quite comfortable and nobody was using it. For dinner, we had a private dining room where we enjoyed exquisitely crafted and delicious food. At 10:30 p.m., we went to soak in a private hot spring which ws previoulsy reserved for free. We went to the one they claimed was the most popular, located on the left side. Upon entering, there was an indoor bath and an outdoor bath. The outdoor pool overlooked some trees and had a Japanese garden feel to it. It was truly very comfortable.
The bed makes some strange creaking noises, which makes it uncomfortable for my husband to sleep. It took a 20-minute walk from the main bus station/train station to the hotel. It is common for many hot spring hotels in Japan to provide shuttle services for the convenience of their guests, yet this hotel does not offer a shuttle service.

All the staff, and we literally refer to 100% of the staff we encountered - were of highest politeness and friendliness assisting us from checking in to checking out. Also awesome mangaka talent was discovered ;) ! All staff seems to enjoy working in the property as well this it was a truly relaxing and positive experience throughout. My family members who were first time visiting japan felt so much like home In your ryokan and even wished we had stayed for more nights! Really nice to have crossed path with the crew and hopefully we can stay in this great ryokan in near future!
NOTHING.

The hotel is super kind and friendly. They make you feel warm and just like family. I am happy every time I step in the hotel. The facility is a bit old but they make every effort to make it well equipped by modern means. Special mentioning on the restaurant. The wonderful lady and gentleman whom served us (a big group with four adults and four noisy kids) were extremely kind and exceedingly helpful and warm. She speaks very good English and very active to meet our needs, many times without us even asking. All in all we have an extremely wonderful stay and felt like being received by a family.
