We had an absolutely amazing stay at Santa María Briones. The setting for the hotel is perfect picture, exactly what we were hoping for for a visit to La Rioja and Spain. Upon check in, we were greeted very nicely (in English, thank you!) and were surprised by the upgrade of our room to one of the suites. A truly breathtaking view!! The bed was extremely comfortable, the stonework in the bathroom so luxurious, the armchair and couch also comfy, and there were USB plugs which was helpful. The hotel is immaculate - the decor, style, staff, cleanliness, and contemporary elements blended in seamlessly to the historical features of the building. Just wow. The other seating areas and bar in the hotel are very welcoming and cosy, everything picked out with care. It was too chilly for us to sit in the terrace but it was beautiful. While there is paid underground parking available, there was plenty of free parking street level at the back of the hotel. The breakfast, which was included, was excellent - coffee/tea and eggs with fixings made to your liking, and a buffet of everything you can imagine (pastries, tostados, fruit, muesli, meat, cheese, smoothies, juices etc). We did not go to either restaurant on site but that's our loss I'm sure! All the staff were very friendly and accommodating, and spoke English easily with us. I have to mention Olimpia specifically as she was very sweet and helped me numerous times. Thank you! Truly a 10/10 stay, so memorable, and 100% recommend the hotel and Briones, a beautiful Spanish village. You should visit!

Everything was fantastic

Sensational location within the walls of the old town in the heart of the Rioja region, huge comfortable room, incredible restaurant for dinner with a tasting menu and paired wines, super breakfast, several tapas bars nearby, lovely helpful staff who spoke English, private gated parking is available but I was happy to park in a space along the quiet road right behind the hotel, we visited the wine museum which is a 20 minute walk away or a short drive and found it surprisingly interesting and you can taste and buy their own wine!

Everything about this hotel is outrageous, absolutely stunning. It is an enchanting place with a warm and inviting ambiance where every detail of the carefully chosen decor ( balancing modern with the historic building) speaks about the thoughtfulness of the owners. Each space is uniquely curated, something rare to find in larger establishments. The staff was exceptionally attentive and the cuisine at “Allegar” restaurant is fabulous. I can’t recommend it enough!

This place is beautiful and feels really special. The room was amazing and so was the rest of the hotel. The people on the front desk were really helpful with booking restaurants and giving recommendations. The food and service in the restaurant was top notch.

Really very very little. It the bar wasn’t manned so it took a bit of time to get someone to make a drink. The iron and ironing board were so small they were like toys and not particularly effective.

This was our splurge hotel at the end of the trip, and it was so worthwhile! Our room was wonderful, with a little welcome bottle of wine. Before we arrived, the hotel reached out with information about visiting the region, and their winery tour recommendation was a great one! The staff were super friendly and helpful. We didn't park at the hotel because there was a festival happening, but the hotel was really communicative about what to expect. Breakfast was delicious!!

The hotel was very pleasant and clean, the light verbena scent was very relaxing and not overwhelming. The staff was very helpful and kind and breakfast was diverse and fresh. We also liked the village itself and hanging around it. It is very beautiful and calm, although there are not many attractions in the village itself. We really enjoyed the nearby town of Logroño, the food and drinks there were superb!

To fully enjoy Rioja Region a car is a must. This was ok for us since we arrived by car, so just something to take into consideration. Also - A small pool or a small hot-tube at the balcony could have been very nice addition! just some food for thought...

Superb hotel, very stylishly designed with lovely small detailed touches and a great spot, fabulous linen/bed and room was excellent, limited private parking but also road parking available Also dined one evening, very good food. Town is small but delightful, a few tapa bars in square. Only 1 taxi in area though . Had amazing small terrace with stunning views

Not so much didn’t like but Need to know where going to dine, restaurant in hotel is excellent and would recommend , a few tapa bars local however it is a small beautiful medial town so needs some planning

Great hotel with exceptional architecture and interior. We liked especially the bathroom and the solid wood wardrobe with light inside. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The dinner in the restaurant was very good and also the breakfast on the terrace was high quality food with a great variety. Santa Maria Briones is definitely the place to stay in Rioja.

In principal nothing. Just the downlights in the bathroom does not make your face look nice. So just switch on the uplights. In the toilets downstairs already bowl luminaires are integrated in the mirror, great light!

This was the 2nd time we have stayed at Santa Maria. We love everything about it. The staff are so helpful and friendly, the rooms are amazing and so quiet. The food in the restaurants is fantastic. This time we dined below ground in the wine cellar Calado, what an experience! Also enjoyed a lovely walk around the very pretty village with amazing views all around, stopping for a beer in the square. Don't miss taking a look inside the church....breathtaking! Didn't want to leave, but we had a ferry to catch from Santander. We will definitely be back.

Location was convenient to nearby towns and wineries in La Rioja. The staff were very accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The morning breakfast buffet was delicious and generous in terms of variety of items offered and quality of food. The dinner at the Michelin Star restaurant was amazing. The rooms were very comforable and generous size. Overall a great experience. And as far as the staff they were all top-notch, especially Maria!
