Beautiful hotel in the middle of old town Santiago. We had a deluxe room with a separate living room & large patio.

The hotel is located in the middle of a pedestrian area, making it necessary to park outside the city and walk in with luggage. It took us 1 hour walking around the city to locate the hotel. We asked 6 different shop owners for directions, and it still took 1 hour. The hotel was built 10 years ago, but no one recognized the name. Our deluxe room was on the 1st floor, and although it had an elevator, it didn't go to the 1st floor. We had to carry our bags up a flight of stairs. The shower had chalking repair work that made it look unclean.

The location of the hotel is incredibly central and convenient - just perfect. The room was great, stylish, well designed, with a glazed balcony and a view across the street to the bars and restaurants. The bed was very comfy. But best of all was the way Vanessa at the reception desk looked after us. We arrived in Santiago on a super early flight from Gatwick. Tired, we made our way to the hotel and left the bags in reception until what we thought was going to be the earliest possible check-in at 2pm. But at 11am Vanessa sent us a text saying our room was ready. What a relief. We were grateful. In addition, Vanessa recommended a great place for breakfast which lived up to expectation. All in all we were well looked after at Hotel Montenegro and enjoyed our stay.

Santiago is a party town in the summer. It was noisy outside the hotel until the really early hours, almost throughout the night. It was too warm to keep the windows shut. Without air conditioning we had no choice but to put up with it. It’s not the fault of the hotel. But if you want to be in the buzz where it is happening, it’s the place to stay. Lots of first class cheap eateries nearby. Lively bars and lots of fun.

Fantastic place to stay after the camino. They don’t have bike storage, fyi, but there is storage close by with another company. The communication was on point, the staff was very helpful, the room was beautiful and large, and the bed very comfortable. We did not have breakfast here. We did have to climb stairs to our first floor room, but it was not bad. There is an elevator to some of the other rooms though. Good price value.

Wonderfully quiet. Comfortable mattress. Rainshower and bidet in the bathroom (rare these days). Wooden shutters on the windows to really block out the light. Polite, professional staff. 5 minutes' walk to the cathedral. Lots of bars and restaurants close by. 8 minutes' walk to the nearest supermarket (Froiz). 15 minutes' walk to the train station (Bus to the airport for €1 !) Highly recommended.

The hotel is very comfortable and we liked that it has a guest lounge with a tea and coffee machine. It’s location is perfect for enjoying the old city of Santiago.

Our 2nd floor room overlooked a restaurant which was extremely noisy until the early hours of the morning. If we closed the French doors and shutters that helped but the room needed air conditioning and was a little stuffy without it.

The hotel is so beautiful, we loved the old stone mixed with modern decor, it’s very striking and cosy. Everything we needed was in the bathroom and it was great to actually have shampoo and conditioner and the body lotion was a welcome surprise. The shower was amazing! The bed was very comfortable and the soft cushions were great to use with the pillows. We loved our room with the Juliet balcony, it was perfect! I’d like to also add that the service we received from Vanessa was exceptional. She was brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us! She made us feel very welcome and went out of her way to make sure we were ok. So a very special thank you to her for treating us so well.

There was nothing we didn’t like

Excellent central location near the cathedral and close to all the bars, shops and restaurants. Helpful staff. They even organised a taxi to meet us at the airport. Our room had two separate bedrooms which was great for traveling with friends. The air con was good, lift worked well. We were very happy with our room.

The front bedroom faced the street which was very noisy with two bars (the Spanish like to stay up very late) and ringing cathedral bells. Ear plugs resolved the problem some of the time.

A fabulous and relaxing stay in this hotel after 3 weeks of walking the Camino. Very central location, just a few minutes walk to the Cathedral. Although the area is full of restaurants (nice!) and many tourists, it is relatively quiet. The reception was also very friendly although open only at certain times. The facilities are great and very clean. Highly recommended!

The rooms were spacious and air conditioned, the beds comfy, the bathroom perfect for our needs. Despite having a street facing room, the extra glancing on the balcony helped keep noise down and we weren’t aware of late night noise despite being in the heart of the old city. The continental breakfast was nice

We have only one minor criticism about this room, that our room had no opening window although you could draw down fresh air via the glass enclosed balcony. the (The air conditioning was good though).

We loved the boutique style of the hotel…a beautiful old building with a very contemporary flair. The location is excellent…in the centre of the historical district,close to the cathedral but also a few minutes walk to the newer part of the city. We have stayed here a few times now and noticed that they have renovated and refurbished the lobby and rooms.
