In November 2023, we stayed at My Village Hotel, which is located slightly north of Tissamaharama (or as the Locals call it “Tissa”). If you are looking for a relaxing stay with the possibility to do a safari tour through the incredible Yala National Park, then this is definitely the place for you. Besides a spacious, clean, and fully equipped room with en-suite bathroom and AC, the amazing pool allows you to take a much needed cold swim after the safari or a hot day trip to one of the surrounding towns. The owners and their staff are all unbelievably nice and take great care of you. They have perfect Tipps for trips and arrange stuff like TukTuks, Taxi, and Safari tours for you! They offer the safari at around 30-40 thousand LKR for a half day tour, which is matching even the cheapest local prices we found. Our safari guide, Pati, was the best we could’ve gotten. While other people saw a few animals in the park, Pati rushed through the best spots and anticipated the animals' behavior so that we saw just about everything there is to see at Yala National Park. With a superb breakfast and even takeaway boxes for the safari (because it started at 5am), the hotel could not offer a better all round experience. In the evening, you can stay in and enjoy freshly prepared local dishes (or western, if you prefer those). You can get a glimpse of the staff preparing the food in the open kitchen and enjoy your meal for about 1500-2500 LKR per dish - great value!

The property was clean and comfortable with excellent a/c and the breakfast was delicious. The staff were superb - kind and courteous, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel organised a fantastic half day safari to Yala on our behalf and also a taxi (Khalid was our driver, great guy) to our next destination (Nuwara Eliya) without any fuss or drama - the arrangements all worked like a dream. They also recommended a restaurant locally that we really enjoyed - 'Chef Lady', where we were royally looked after by Sanjiva - so well looked after we went twice!

My Village has a really nice vibe, with a beautiful garden, open spaces to lounge, great pool with enough beds. The owner/manager is super nice (as is the rest of the staff) and knows how to make you feel comfortable. We loved everything about this place, and after a few active weeks in Ella, Kandy, Arugam Bay it was a total delight to be able to chill out in My Village. The photos don't lie: everything is well equipped, the rooms are spacious with great airco and nice beds. They've also got a very good kitchen - for both breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you don't even have to leave. If you do want to venture out, which we did on a few occassions, everything is easily within reach with a TukTuk. And: They can also help you organise a Yala safari.

Just outside of Tessa town which is good for us, close enough to be accessible but away from the hustle and bustle. Pool area was across the road but a 5 second walk and was lovely, good breakfast, room was a good size, plenty of seating areas outdoors. They arranged our safari for us and we didn’t find it anymore expensive than others we’d seen advertised - also packed us a great picnic box up for breakfast of water, banana’s, sandwiches, yoghurt and cake. We didn’t eat there in the evening but the food looked good, we found a fab little place called chef lady about a 10 minute walk away and the food was amazing

Minor problem but the staff didn’t speak much English, however I was in their country and didn’t speak their language so more of a problem for me. Having said that we got everything we needed and had no problems.

Very nice accommodation! The whole hotel has a cool design, the room was huge, and the shower was warm. The room had all the amenities, including a fridge. Breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant also serves great dinner. The hotel organized the safari without any issues, and everything went smoothly. The pool area is beautiful and a peaceful oasis for relaxation.

No card payments were accepted, which I didn’t expect. Also, the nearest ATM is quite a distance away.

Amazing stay at my village hotel. I was lucky to get a recommandation for this hotel from a friend, telling me it was her favorite hotel in Sri Lanka. The hotel exceeded my expectations. It was perfectly clean. The pool area was very intimate and beautiful! The hotel booked for us the whole safari experience we didn’t have to worry about anything. Cherry on the cake: Aselan, our guide for the safari, made sure we saw every wildlife we wanted to see (including 3 leopards in the same morning!!!), many elephants, and more. he explained us many things on the local wildlife. We didn’t experience too crowded Yala Park thanks to his perfect drive! Overall, an amazing stay here and amazing experience. Thank you again !

Sujith is an amazing host and his team are fantastic. They organised a great safari for us for Yala and even prepared a packed breakfast for us due to the early start. Our driver for the safari was Asela and booked park entry tickets online to make sure we didn’t have to queue at the gate with others buying tickets on the day. This meant we were first in the gates and he did everything he could to make sure we saw as many animals as possible. Stay two nights so you can rest after the safari and enjoy the delicious dinner. We also used their pool area which was stunning and refreshing after a hot day. Would stay here again if we came back.

Beautiful place. Great big room, amazing pool, everything was clean. We booked a safari with the hotel which was convenient and worked out great - it was just me and my partner in the jeep. We got our breakfast in a package to go. We also had dinner in their restaurant, food was really good.

The staff didn’t speak very good english which made working out questions a little difficult. The restaurant had good food but it took about an hour to make. Next day for lunch the cook was sick so it wasn’t operating. But these are just little thing in an overall amazing stay.

We loved everything about My Village! The building, garden and bedroom are not only functional but thoughtfully designed with a considered aesthetic that suits the environment. It has a very serene and spacious feel from when you enter the garden, to the reception area and bedroom. The pool across the lane from the main building is also situated in tropical garden and it was refreshing to have a swim shortly after arriving. There are so many thoughtful touches to this property which have created a comfortable and beautiful environment to stay in. The breakfast was delicious too and served in the garden. We also enjoyed a beer and listened to some great music in the evening provided by the affable and hospitable owner. A unique and beautiful place to stay in Tissamaharama.

We cannot rate this property any higher. From arrival to leaving the staff were exceptional, especially Samith. The pool area is gorgeous. We stayed 2 nights and ate here both evenings. We thought the food was great - fresh and tasty. The staff also organised the safari for us which was fantastic, our tour guide (Pati) was again amazing - and would recommend everyone to book through the property - we were provided with a delicious breakfast to take away as well as lunch on our full day safari. We then had breakfast at the property on our final morning - super tasty and lots of food! We would absolutely recommend this place and would return to stay again. Thank you to all the team for making our stay so pleasurable ☺️
