The restaurant/hotel were great, set in a lovely location. It's a beautiful village with plenty to do in the surrounding area, and a delicious ice cream shop over the road. Breakfast was tasty with everything on offer, we didn't eat otherwise in the restaurant but the food looked really good. The rooms are big, period style but tidy and everything you need.

The hotel check in staff member was very rude. Not only to me but the person checking in ahead of me too. It may be a busy hotel but this is the service industry - there should be more professionalism than what we experienced. What a let down for an otherwise fabulous stay.

Superb location ,ideal for visiting Fountains Abbey ,Harrogate and knaresborough. Lovely places to walk from the Boars Head. Next to a deer park and guests at the hotel have free access to the dear park. All the staff were excellent but a special mention to Paula at reception. I had booked the wrong dates and turned up a week early.expecting to be told there was no room ,Paula arranged with the Manager to prepare a room for us and saved the day and our Easter weekend.

Didn't stay there long enough

A great location on a quiet street with an ancient church and a castle, literally feet away from the front door. Fountains Abbey is just down the road so it was perfectly situated for us. The room (Yellow) was lovely and everything was so clean and comfortable. Dinner was delicious and breakfast was bountiful (and also delicious!). The staff were all so kind and helpful. We would definitely stay there again!

Nothing!

Area ,the food and dog friendly

The charge a dog to high 25£ a night is ridiculous 10£ is sufficient which it has been in the past, Unless the charge is reduced we will not stay ,which is a shame as we love it there

We stayed in a room at the rear in Birchwood House which is over the road from the Boards Head. The building was beautiful as was the setting. Ripley itself is quite magical. I’d go so far as to say the surroundings and venue were idyllic. Quality bedding really makes a difference to a stay in a historic place and this didn’t disappoint. There were lots of things in close proximity too that added to the allure of the place; distillery, ice cream shop, free castle gardens access, tea rooms and of course amazing food at the Boards Head.

As a wheelchair user this isn’t the most accessible locality, the building having steps to enter and the castle/grounds and street having cobbles. We had however been made aware of this prior to choosing to stop so that was our undoing. We had a dirty pint glass left in the room and also the shower screen seal needs bleaching. Attention to detail stuff, but nothing majorly wrong.

We had a nice pre-Christmas stay here and visited Knaresborough and the Christmas Market in Ripley Castle. The room was warm, very comfortable and had everything we needed.

We did have a slight issue at dinner. We booked a table in the bar for 8.30pm and after our main meals our orders for desserts were taken. Three of them arrived and the waiter said to our friend "yours in on the way, it won't be too long". 20 minutes later we enquired as to where it was to be told that both the chef and the waiter had finished for the evening and gone home which was a bit odd! Maybe going froward don't allow dinner reservations past 8pm.

We wanted an overnight stay for a weekend away in Harrogate and booked here as it was a good price in comparison to places in the centre of Harrogate. We had a good sized room with a big bed which was comfy - had a good night's sleep, it was located in a very quiet area. Liked the character of the place and the bar/restaurant had a good atmosphere. We had food in the pub which was a great experience - fab food and good service 😀

Breakfast was tasty but we waited a while for it in the morning leading us to a late check out (this wasn't an issue for the hotel). The bathroom was outdated - the shower-over-bath in particular wasn't pleasant, very creaky which made me and my husband very wary whenever we moved. The shower had a poor water flow. The curtains in the bathroom window were torn/shredded on the edges.

Communication with Management was first class courteous and friendly. The Boars Head was a great place, with lovely surroundings, peaceful rooms. The staff were friendly, accommodating and helpful. We had "an accessible room" in the courtyard on the ground floor. This is designed so that anyone with disabilities would be well catered for. Although we didn't have any issues it was really fitted out well and a large room. Good heating, great bed and an immaculate wet room type shower. Our friends had an upstairs room in the courtyard and that was similarly well appointed. The Evening meal and the breakfast were really well presented and good quality ingredients. All this made it a really relaxing experience to recharge the batteries and visit Harrogate and Knaresborough.

Having to come home!! And I wanted to see Boris, but forgot to Look so will have to go back!

Our second time this year at the Boars Head, we stayed in the building opposite the main house which was absolutely delightful, we felt very comfortable, the car parking was spot on also very secure which was a bonus. We had an evening meal which again was really nice and well served. We are already looking forward to returning in the spring.

Breakfast staff were a little bit unfriendly, young waitresses were in need of some basic training as gave the impression we were inconveniencing them, normal stuff no smile, no idea of siding empty pots off the table at anytime just walk past no awareness of the situation (we ended up doing it ourselves)shame really but didn't detract from our lovely break.

This was such a lovely stay. The staff were really lovely, the room was comfy and warm (2 degrees outside!) and the location was gorgeous. We loved that we got access to the castle grounds. We had dinner one evening and it was beyond the standard we usually treat ourselves to. Our waitress was super lovely. Breakfast was delish.

Better toiletries would have been nice, I never remember to bring conditioner. The tiny shower gel/shampoo felt a bit below the standard of the hotel generally and I feel awful about what 1000s of those must be doing to the environment!
