Easy check-in, very friendly staff, and a spacious and reasonably clean room. Very private. Good WiFi signal. The location was very convenient, not too long a walk to town and back, and also on major bus routes, in a very nice part of Huddersfield. The bathroom was a decent size, but perhaps needs a small shelf above the basin.
The decor needs modernising, but that's not a big issue. I would have liked to have had a bedside lamp, which I understand is now being remedied. The refrigerator was very noisy and I had to switch it off at night. I'd also suggest that the hotel add aircon or a fan to the room.

Conveniently placed with safe parking. Large room with a king size bed. Quiet location. Fridge microwave oven and a kettle. The bed was comfortable with clean white bed linen. The shower room and toilet was a good size and plenty of hot water.
The checking in process was ridiculous. We were told that we would receive an email with the entry code for the outer door. This email was not sent. Luckily another guest let us in. Then no one was available to answer the phone. Then a message was sent by a screen inside the building with a code for a a key safe to obtain room key. The towels were grubby and very rough. The sink had no plug so there was no way to mix water to the correct temperature. The tiles around the shower were dirty and the previous guests hair was still in the drain trap. The bath mat was covered in a white powdery substance. There was only one pillow each.

The double room on the first floor was spectacular, with a huge bathroom. The staff was very helpful when there was a problem with one of our rooms (the problem was not the hotel's fault). Beautiful area of Huddersfield and great value for money. We really enjoyed our experience here.
The single rooms are on the attic floor and are small and more basic than the doubles, and they can be warm in summer, so I'd recommend booking a double rather than a single even if you're travelling alone. Not a fan of the check-in procedure having to send copies of documents in advance, but everything went OK and the automatic check-in in-situ worked fine.

The decor was very old-fashioned and tired but actually, the amenities were brilliant. As well as the kettle and tea / coffee making facilities that you would expect, there was also a toaster, microwave and even a fridge :-D There was a dining table with 4 dining chairs and a comfy office-style chair. If you were staying for any length of time there was loads of storage space available.
Getting to, and into the property was a bit tricky. The email instructions state that you have to turn down a "back passage" but it would've been useful if there was a sign on this passage as it wasn't obvious. Immediately before this passage, there is the entrance to another property which looks like it could be a hotel. Also, it would be useful upon booking if there was an option to request a lower key safe. I'm only 5ft and luckily my safe was low enough to reach but I noticed some were way above my height and it's not obvious as to how to contact the staff if you need help.

Another overnight stay at Ashfield hotel and there is nothing else to say except that this was exceptional yet again. I initially booked this for my friend to stay overnight whilst I was having surgery. However, I was discharged earlier than expected and the owners allowed me to stay in the double room with my friend without question. They have a beautiful property and they always telephone to check that everything is okay once you have checked in within a few hours. The property is exceptionally clean, has beautiful views and is close enough to the town to walk to. Both my friend and myself have said that we would never stay anywhere else if we were in Huddersfield. A lovely gem to have found. Thank you to you
Nothing negative can be said about this property.

Just what I needed: an economical, simple room, close to the train station. Friendly staff (even though I never met them).
The access was a little complicated since I wasn't able to get the emailled instructions during the day, but still managed. Couldn't get the television to work, but that didn't really matter. Funny shaped little room with no natural light which was fine because I was mainly there just for the night.

Once the, what I thought, tedious and unnecessary application process was out of the way, I expecting the room to be of good quality, which with a modest price tag I didn't think was likely. However, we were both very pleasantly surprised with the size, the cleanliness, the beautiful vintage fireplace and the additional unexpected facilities like the microwave and good TV with on demand. The room felt reasonably warm already and what seemed to be quite a small radiator, it did a great job of heating the room to the point we got too hot and had to turn it off :). Overall, we agreed nowhere else comes close to giving such great value.
The application process with passport, driving license, utility bill, deposit seemed beyond excessive. However it made sense later on and I appreciate it may be necessary to enable such good value with the rooms. A couple of small issues, only 2 sachets of coffee for 2 people and no way to get any more and also the double bed was 2 singles put together, which was a shame, however the bed was still very comfy and I'm sure this would be something that will change in the future.

Room was spacious, had good facilities in the room including a big sofa and table/chairs, fridge and microwave. Bed was really comfortable. Bus stop outside property so great links to town. Staff were helpful and check in/out was easy.
Shower was very narrow, as was bath. One wardrobe was inaccessible due to sofa, and the other was used to store fan/iron etc. cord on ceiling fan was too short to pull. Kettle plug was difficult to reach.

Good range of facilities included in the room for standard accommodation - fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, iron. Large ensuite with accessible adaptations. Clever check-in system using video intercoms and key safes. Vending machine on site for snacks. Great location in Central huddersfield, close to the train station, market and park. Brilliant presentation of outdoor spaces and lobby.
General wear and tear in the standard room booked.
