The staff couldn't have been more helpful, my original room had a leaky toilet, so I was moved rooms straight away. The room I was given was much smaller, still a double but half the size, which was fine as I was a solo traveller, but for two people, it would have been a bit of a squeeze. The breakfasts were good, huge portions on the cooked.breakfast! Good location if attending The Royal Hallamshire Hospital it is literally a 3 minute walk away.

The mattress in my room was not great, and I told staff this as I was checking out. I know the hotel is going through a refurbishment, but there should still be a standard maintained.

Comfortable beds , great location . Staff lovely and friendly . Lovely breakfast served in a breakfast room if booked . Really nice hotel , older decor but this fits with the age of the property

Slight water leak when showering , blind on window let light in as not a brilliant fit . ( we did sleep well though) not enough plugs - none at side of bed for chargers ect . On booking . Com it states breakfast in the room so I didn’t book it but then when I got there breakfast was served on a proper dining area - I would have prebooked if I knew this . Needs updating on the site . Also think parking should be included if you are staying ( at least for 1 car )

Very pleasantly surprised by how well presented the room was, and it was a very good size. Everything I needed and the value for money was fantastic! The cooked breakfast was lovely too (made to order). I liked the local area too, very close to the botanic gardens and quite peaceful to walk around (at least in the summer holidays!)

Old building so the corridors to the room were a bit maze like, and lots of stairs when carrying a case, but it also meant your "neighbours" were spread out, so I didn't mind. Early breakfast service was a bit patchy given it was prebooked but no issues really!

Old fashioned building which I love....lots of character. Lovely natural features in the place. Spiral staircase, brick walls, wood panelling in our bedroom. Lots of different lights for ambiance. Modern shower, again, lovely stone-like tiles and flooring. Spacious, easy to use. Hot water. Pretty paved garden surrounding the hotel. Very quirky. Different entrances to the hotel made it interesting. Good breakfast, full English. Served quickly... and the best chocolate swirled croissants and almond ones. Friendly staff. Close to shops, café and restaurants.

There was a vending machine for hot drinks. I prefer a bar/lounge, but at least hot drinks were available! Had to pay for car parking. That's just an extra expense on top of your hotel cost. Easy parking though, found a spot, went away and still spaces when I returned.

I enjoyed the single room, it was a perfect size, very comfy and being able to have a tea or coffee whenever was also good. I would have liked to see a hot chocolate, but I did bring my own just in case. I also liked that being a solo woman traveller I felt safe in the hotel, although it is a bit of a warren. The breakfast was delicious and the lady in the restaurant area was very friendly. The lady on reception Holly, was such a nice, friendly and welcoming person. It was lovely when I came back in to be greeted by her.

The cost of the car parking I thought was a bit steep, especially as having paid, it was a struggle to park still because people do not know how to park their cars. Again this is not a problem with you but with other drivers.

Have stayed several times. It provides great value for money and I have never experienced any problems. It is very clear that you need to pay for parking if required (they could charge an inclusive price but that would be unfair on people who do not use the car park) and I have always been able to find space to park. When I booked it appeared it would only be continental but in fact a Full English was provided.

It is a pity the bar and restaurant are no longer available but the price charged for rooms reflects the facilities they can provide.

Rutland is a beautiful hotel, with friendly staff. Room was clean, small, but well equipped. The bed was soft, cozy and clean. Bathroom wa also nice and tidy, breakfast service was outstanding. Great food, both the continental and the full English was nutritious. Getting to and from the hotel to the centre is easy with bus lines 6 and 120. The room itself felt a bit hot at times, but that can be regulated with the radiator and window.

I must say that it is always a bit disappointing when shower only has an overhead shower head and no hose. Also remember that to get the desired temperature, you have to open the valve to max, as only half-open won't react well to turning the knob to hot. But if you can withstand ten to fifteen seconds of cold before the temp rises, it's ok. It would be also fine not to switch the fire alarm by accident, as that is a nasty way to wake up :D

The staff are all lovely and the location perfect as my husband was having surgery at the Hallamshire close by, very comfortable bed, we both loved the original features of the Victorian building

The whole building is very tired. We struggled a bit with the build up of dust on skirting boards and corners, we both have allergies , mould in the bathroom not necessary needs just bleach, it was better than last stay, I did comment, looks like it's been siliconed over! We had breakfast first visit can't recommend, deep fried hash browns, no tomato's, cheap sausage, coffee undrinkable , hence we did not have breakfast this second stay. I've had my own bed and breakfast for ten years, it's not that hard to get breakfast right, I prefer omelette, but no option available 😞

Nice functional room, spacious for single room. Convenient for hospital and bus routes to city. Lovely location by botanic gardens. Away from city centre so nice and quiet stay. Room included work desk and large shower room. Breakfast service was excellent.

Hard to pick faults. It is an old rambling building so takes time to work out where everything is. A couple of minor gripes: shower drain ran slow and kettle didn't switch off - but set against the location, peaceful area, caring staff and value for money these were really minor niggles.
