I booked for my 95 year old grandfather to stay in the White Star over Christmas so he could be closer to us, and honestly, everything was absolutely fantastic. The room was spacious, very clean and generously packed with drink freebies, there was even a lovely Christmas card and present. The staff were excellent and the breakfast fantastic. Everyone was so accommodating. I had always expected staying at the tavern to be good (we walk past it almost everyday walking our dog), but it truly exceeded expectations in every way. My grandfather had a great stay and I would 100% recommend. Finally, should anyone from the White Star be reading this, I just want to say a personal thank you.

Nothing at all, everything was superb.

Food was outstanding, especially the breakfast. They offer continental breakfast but also allowed you to choose from the menu. I had a latte and eggs benedict and it was all included in the price of the room. Staff was AMAZING. I will mention no elevators in the did not like section BUT the gentlemen at the front desk carried my bag up to my room. Every person I met at this Bed and Breakfast was exceptional. This is a perfect B&B if you are taking a cruise.

I was on the fourth floor but there was no elevator. It is an old building so the stairs twist and turn and it is a challenge to get luggage to the rooms. If there are men working, they are more than happy to help with the luggage but on my checkout day, there were only women, so they suggested bringing my checked luggage down a day early which was a great solution.

The hotel was well situated for us to walk to the cruise terminal. It was also a short walk into town and to see the historical areas. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was beautiful, well decorated, spotless clean, pristine linen, water, tea, coffee even beer left as complimentary. We were told there would be no breakfast due to a kitchen refurbishment, but Bridget came up to the room to let us know that was only for hot food. When we went to the dinning room the staff had laid out an exceptional buffet. Nothing too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay again if in area. Well done all.

Nothing to dislike, fab place to stay

The ‘White Star Tavern’ is an elegant pub which seamlessly mixes being a hotel with being a pub and restaurant. Our room was lovely and had great extra touches, such as a complementary bottle of beer, fresh milk and a coffee machine. The bathroom was very large and well-appointed. There were also blinds and curtains so that almost black out was achieved, which is always a sign of a good hotel! Overall, we were very impressed.

Instructions for the coffee pod machine would have been welcome as I did not have great success with it! The breakfast menu was fab but two things we wanted were not available so perhaps this could be addressed?

The hotel is very well placed close to the old center of town and not far from the docking stations of the big cruise lines. As it is a very old house, over 100 years, the rooms are relatively small, but comfortable, with a small shower, and you need to be prepared to climb fairly steep and small staircases to reach your room. Overall the hotel has a beautiful, charming ambiance which is supported by a friendly staff. The breakfast is a buffet style breakfast with a nice choice of products and you can still choose different freshly prepared dishes from a menu. Apart from that the food is great and the bar offers a wide variety of beer, wine and other drinks

The room we stayed in, number 14, was in the 3rd floor but it had no view. The only really negative point was the mold in the window of the bathroom.

Lovely place to stay. Helpful staff and lovely rooms.

We knew the layout of the accomodation having stayed there before but carrying heavy luggage up to 4th floor up narrow staircases was tricky although staff helped us and we appreciated that. Room was small - perhaps too much furniture in there for a cosy room. Not much space for luggage. (We did know it was a 'cosy room' when booking. Shower toom was compact. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles - took a very long time (maybe nearly an hour) for someone to take our breakfast order and it was wrong when it finally arrived. Server said the chef got confused because we only chose certain items from the full breakfast option! But we love the White Star - staff always really friendly and it's a lovely place to stay.

Excellent location, close to the cruise port. We had a nice sized room with a comfortable king sized bed. We had dinner there and both the Fish & Chips and the cheeseburger and fries were great. The breakfast they offer is the best I have had in all my years of traveling internationally. Not only did they offer the usual croissants, cold cuts and fruit but one was also able to order a fully cooked breakfast based on your choices. And last but not least, the staff offered great customer service. All in all, this establishment exceeded all my expectations.

Nothing. Why mess with perfection?

It was a great pub, the rooms were comfortable, the location was good for what we needed. The staff were outstanding. They have the process of folks staying one night before or after a cruise down perfectly - from check-in to check-out, everything was seamless.

It is in a noisy location, but the property are quite clear about that if you look closely. The only comment I would make in terms of improvement was that our bed platform was off kilter and it made the middle of bed sag weirdly. If we had been staying for more than one night we would have addressed it.

Breakfast was wonderful, delicious and ample. We enjoyed dinner there 2 nights. The room was comfortable and beautiful design. Quaint pub feel. Shower was large. Loved the small touches milk, water and beer in the fridge, coffee and tea also available. It was in walking distance to the Ferry's. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Having a room on the top floor was difficult to do the narrow stairs, you didn't want to forget anything and need to run back up, however on the plus side staying there 3 days made it easier on the last day.

The White Star Tavern pub/restaurant was great, excellent food (appreciated the 10% guest discount) and breakfast was fantastic value for money included with our very reasonable room rate! Our standard double room also exceeded expectations, very good facilities, very comfy bed and lovely extras such as quality tea and coffee and chocolates and even proper milk, a beer and still and sparkling water in the fridge. All staff we encountered were great. We did find the location was quite noisy as opposite some lively pubs but this is subjective, depending on what you want from your stay. We could hear everything from room above as well. Otherwise very happy with our stay.

Noise from pubs and from what we assume was the room above. Could heat every creak and movement from.above and the telly like it was in our own room.
