This is a lovely place to stay. Looking over a lovely garden and views each room or chalet. Really done out well are the chalets . Lovely big pub with soft seating areas for guests to chill. And a separate restaurant area. Food was lovely and they made a special effort because it was our wedding anniversary and brought us out a plate with happy anniversary in chocolate writing and some little brownie s and a glass of champagne each. Couldn’t fault that. The room was so nice. Big bath and shower and bed so comfortable. Seating area that looked over the beautiful garden and view. And patio door that opened up onto your own terrace. Breakfast was also nice. But would have preferred to go up to a breakfast cereal station to get juice and yogurt and cereal instead of having to ask waitress for juice. No mention of cereal.

Probably attention to detail in clearing tables. Without people having to go up to ask for previous people’s plates and glasses and cups to be cleared after a while after sitting there. It is on the tad of expensive side and the price you pay you should get your breakfast including in the price. I do a lot and as you know reviews and stay in a lot of hotels all over the country. And this one is one of the more expensive ones. Even though we have stayed in top notch places in the Coxwold and Windsor and London.

We recently stayed here for two nights, just to get away from home for a short break. It's a 45-minute drive from Redcar or Saltburn, where we like to park south of Redcar and walk the 3-4 miles down the beach to Salburn, eat fish n chips and walk back. Also, it's just a 15-minute train ride into York. The pub is located in a quiet rural hamlet about 5-6 minutes drive from Thirsk. The pub is first class and very comfortable with burning log fires etc. The restaurant is also first class but not particularly costly. The dinner menu is £19 for two courses and £25 for three. The food is high quality "Gastro Pub" style and is all homemade. Eating there for breakfast and dinner is a nice treat that doesn't break the bank. The 8 or 9 garden rooms are fabulous. They are located in a self-contained block across a super garden across from the pub. There was no noise from the pub, and our room was perfectly insulated from the room next door. Again, first class room for the money. Comfy bed, sitting area with a sofa and two chairs and patio door looking onto the gardens. We have stayed here once before, and we were in one of the two rooms above the pub bar. I couldn't rate those rooms as highly because, as you would expect in an old pub, they were somewhat noisy from the pub's activities below. Still, those rooms are much better than similar rooms we have stayed in in the past. I can highly recommend a stay here, particularly in a garden view room. We'll be back in a couple of months for sure.

When staying in a garden-view room, there is nothing not to like.

Loved the ambience of the Carpenters Arm from the moment of our arrival, with the friendly staff the quality of the room, and the first drink around the open fire after a chilly day visiting Castle Howard at Christmas. Dinner was excellent and the menu was varied enough for both of us to have choices to make. The rooms were spacious well appointed with a lounge area to relax, and dog friendly. In the morning sunlight the courtyard rooms lead onto a grassy green with a fence located at the top of the escarpment offering long distance views to the west over Thirsk. A short walk to the main building offered up a lovely cooked breakfast, and the alternative choices on offer in the restaurant, with a view.

Only struggle was to find the roof blind control in the corner of a wall of room 4, not easy to see until in bed. Not much to let the side down, in a very well appointed hostelry. Perfect retreat for a wintery evening.

Staff were fantastic, very helpful and always had a smile on their face. Food was wonderful. We are both nights and had breakfast both days and found we had plenty of choice. The beetroot starter was one of the best starters I’ve had!

We were in a upstairs room. It could do with a refresh, it’s looking a bit tired and worn. A bit of a deeper clean would be good; like high cobwebs, curtain needed sewn, inside shower could do with a deep clean. Small things but to me they make a difference. Won’t put us off going back, we had a great weekend.

This little pub totally blew me away. I booked as was in area for work at 5 pm on booking .com.was cheaper than premier inns and other hotels. Food in the restaurant was absolutely delicious.I had pie mash and vegetables and was thoroughly amazing food. Sticky toffee pudding was fantastic too. The room was very comfortable, very comfortable mattress and a nespresso machine. Boiling hot power shower and lovely views from my window. Will definitely be coming back and bringing my wife next time.

Everything was bloody brilliant, cannot fault it.

A great place to stay in the heart of Yorkshire sightseeing - close to Rivaulx Abbey, Hemsley Castle and easy distance of Fountains Abbey. Staff were friendly, our room had all amenities as described including little bottles of fresh milk in fridge so we could make tea. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and generous portions.

Breakfast was lovely. The dining room is very attractive with good views. The location is excellent. Felixkirk is very pretty and very peaceful. The rooms form an L shape around a lovely garden with far reaching views. Really lovely

Only personal taste things. The room furniture was pretty standard, though the room is imaginatively designed, with a huge bed, and high sloped ceiling. The facilities are extremely good.

Plenty of choices on the dinner and breakfast menus.Food nicely prepared and presented by pleasant and quietly attentive staff. Our garden suite room was clean, comfortable, well equipped and spacious. The garden area had a lovely outlook over the valley and was tranquil even when the adjacent restaurant was busy.

Two minor niggles about food service during our stay. Halfway through our four-night stay the continental-style custom of welcoming diners to their tables with a small amount of complimentary bread ceased. Thereafter it became a chargeable menu item. We weren't unduly bothered by this but the change of policy midway through our stay did give us the impression of penny-pinching. The other slightly duff note was that when we sat down for dinner every night, and for one of our breakfasts, the waiter/waitress would first tell us which menu items were unavailable. There was still plenty of choice but this happened more often than it should.

Nothing! It was great!

The groom stayed here the night before our wedding and it was the best experience we could have hoped for! The staff were so accommodating, they couldn’t do enough for you. The day after we booked to have our breakfast here. They kept the chef on as we were running a bit late and made the morning after our wedding a dream! We can’t thank you enough and we will definitely be returning!
