We had a very comfortable stay. The room was big, light and airy and we liked the fact it was separate from the pub, so it was quiet and private. We only had a few yards to the pub and the food was plentiful and enjoyable. Overall everything was very clean and well maintained.

They were short staffed and on the Sunday morning the lady was serving breakfast, covering reception as well as looking after the bar. Then I overheard a telephone conversation where housekeeping was not available. The lady was doing a fantastic job, but we felt she should have had more support.

We booked two rooms at the Five Bells for a quick pre-Christmas visit to Southwold, and we’re so glad we did! The pub/restaurant has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were genuinely friendly. Both rooms were spotless, well-appointed, and had everything we needed. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, giving us a great night’s sleep. Breakfast was excellent, with a great selection of high-quality options, all freshly cooked to order. We’ll definitely be returning in the new year!

all good

Location was just where we wanted to be, as close to Covehithe as possible. Room was actually too warm when we arrived, but rather that than cold. Even with the radiator turned right down it remained warm and cosy. A lovely spacious room and given we had adog in tow, much appreciated. Breakfast was great and ran until 10.30, so fantastic for a lazy start to the day!

Dinner was a bit of a dissapointment. Nothing we could complain about at the time, just very average and overpriced. On the plus side the whitebait were the fatest whitebait I've ever seen, but the accompanying tartar sauce was served in the packet. My double cooked pork belly was OK, but the veg, advertised as "Wangford seasonal vegetables" I expected to be roasted, but were uninspiring and the whole plate looked like something off a carvery. My partner was none too impressed with her curry either. Should have taken the hint that it was two fish & chips for £20. Would have been very happy I'm sure.

The Inn was very attractive and clean and the staff were efficient and friendly. The room was in a separate block and was well presented and spacious with an excellent choice of tea, coffee and biscuits. The food at our evening meal was good pub fare and breakfast was all you could want.

For such a spacious room the bed was too small and the mattress too hard for us. We were also kept awake by the two emergency lights in the room. But everything else was very pleasant.

Easy to get to,just set back of the main road,Lovely room separate from the pub, very clean, larger than expected, breakfast excellent, good choice, staff lovely and helpful

Only one thing when you come back to room when it's dark there are no lights in car park there was a light attached to wall of accommodation but unfortunately didn't work so had to leave headlights on to unlock door but this didn't detract from the lovely accommodation and staff

Simple, spacious and spotlessly clean room. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Good food with a small but quality pub dinner menu and superb breakfast offering, with plenty available and an absolutely delicious cooked breakfast! Last but not least, it’s in a great location, only a short drive or bus ride into Southwold and plenty of good walks around too.

Small things that didn’t ruin our stay but worth mentioning. The room was too light at night due to exterior lights shining through all around the blind, needs a bigger window covering and change to trip lights outside instead of always on. The bed frame is uncomfortable, with panels at sides and foot of bed, especially for even a normal height person. Also our door was loosely fitted so it rattled all night but it was very windy when we stayed, so possibly isn’t like that all the time.

Absolutely loved the accommodation, separate to the pub, very quiet and cosy. Great location for exploring the area. We couldn't make the breakfast as we were there for a race but a very kind member of staff offered to make breakfast sandwiches to take with us.

We had a meal in the restaurant and while the food was lovely the restaurant was very cold.

A lovely, cosy pub with an open fire. Very clean, well equipped rooms. All staff were really friendly with suggestions of places to go and where to catch the bus for example. The beer was well kept and the food magnificent! The breakfast was excellent value. We will definitely be back!

There are two things about our room I would change; firstly the location of the tv made watching uncomfortable after a while, better opposite the end of the bed and secondly, the door to the room would be better with frosted glass panes or similar so that you don’t have to pull the blinds down during the day. Neither affected our enjoyment though.

Great location just off the a12. Normally a quiet road. Pub is great food is great and so are the staff. Room was bright and clean and modern. With the added attraction of hedgehogs and rabbits in the garden at the rear in the evenings. Bed was soft, maybe too soft but pillows were comfy and slept well. Shower was great. Nice size. Bathroom was huge. Can park right outside and no need to lug bags up stairs. Room is wheelchair accessible.

Mahoosive spider in the room. 😁 But that's all.

We loved our visit to the 5 bells Inn. We had exceptional meals where nothing was too much trouble. We stayed In room 3 it was light, spacious and had everything we needed.

There was a big cobweb above the bed that we spotted as we got into bed. Other than that everything was clean. I found the bed to be too hard but that's down to personal preference.
