Journey break pub stay on the way to Cornwall. Traditional, busy and friendly pub in the middle of a very picturesque village. Room was pristine clean and provided more than adequate en-suite shower facilities and a very comfortable bed. Our dinner of sound homemade pub grub was tasty and sensibly priced; the landlady was extremely affable and juggled the roles of front of house, behind the bar and food delivery with expertise! Breakfast was all it should be and set is up for the day. The bar dog was lovely! Wandering g through to look at the skittle alley after breakfast revealed a gorgeous sheltered beer garden. Shame we arrived too late to take advantage the day before.

Terrific English pub, really comfy beds, historic and charming setting in honey stone green, excellent quality food (the steak and ale pie was delicious) and good range of beers and ciders. Super breakfast and felt very homely. Lovely cottage garden and good ambience. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Excellent service , allowing us to check out a little later, was appreciated.

Only improvement would be black out blinds in room.

Really lovely little place, the owners/hosts were great and really welcoming. Had a very nice fish and chip tea in the restaurant and a good fryup (veggie and meat options available) in the morning. Very comfortable bed, everything you need provided in the room. Exceptionally good value for money. Lovely signed poster from the 1995 Sense and Sensibility film that the pub was featured in on the wall. Very festively decorated when I visited, and really added to the atmosphere.

Ann and Charles are lovely welcoming hosts at this great West Country pub. Very comfortable room, great food and drink, comfy sofas and an adorable pub dog. Location is right on the square in the middle of the village so perfect for looking round Montacute house, but also just 5 minutes from A303 to very convenient to explore the wider area by car.

Nothing! All great

We found the land lady and staff incredibly friendly and helpful in respect of advice on the local area and our stay. The room was a really good size and comfortable for the price. The food we had was also exceptional having stayed for both dinner and breakfast.

I have no negative comments from the experience.

We enjoyed delicious meals for both dinner and breakfast at the pub, which had a lovely atmosphere. Room was comfortable, quiet and we had good night sleep. The proximity to Montacute House and the charming village provided excellent opportunities for enjoyable walks. Overall, we were very pleased with our experience.

Very clean room in a lovely old pub, great secluded beer garden. Nice friendly staff. Didn't eat here, but the food looked (and smelled) really good, nice vegan options. Good eco-friendly notices up. Great location for Montacute House and close to the A303, didn't have any problems parking close. Very quiet room, and the pub dog Trix is a total sweetheart. I would definitely stay here again.

I've read some negative comments about the landlady being a bit "abrupt" - she's definitely straight to the point, but that seems to come from efficiency and helpfulness, and I got on fine with her. And the landlord is nice too.

Parking is a bit tight outside- but we managed to find somewhere pretty easily

Very well located: easy to reach from the A303, and close to the National Trust property Montacute House. A friendly welcome, comfortable room, with good food and drinks.

The booking form could have made clear that there is free public car-parking immediately opposite the B&B.

Cosy, very clean, lovely bedding. Welcoming host and staff very pleasant and helpful. Excellent food and breakfast.

We didn’t know the ‘private’ bathroom was across the hallway. Would have preferred to know in advance so we could make a choice of rooms.
