A small and friendly hotel, full of character with great staff. Sam the manager made me feel very welcome, and it was a good place to eat and drink in the evening.

The shared bathrooms could be noisy if guests were moving around in the night.

The hotel was clean and well kept. It is an old building with a lot of charm and history. The room was spacious and comfortable. The washrooms are shared but on the floor there were 3 independent washrooms for just a handful of rooms so one was always accessible and free. The washrooms were very clean and well maintained. As a plus, the hotel is in a good location. You are in walking distance from the Sydney Opera House and to downtown. The hotel is also in walking distance from a train station.

Nothing. I had an excellent stay and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Unless you really want your own, in-room bathroom this hotel ticks all the boxes. Good value for money, good facilities and good location

Honestly would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Sydney. The location is amazing, a walk across the botanical gardens to get to the harbour. Our room was a really good size and the bathrooms were really clean. There was three toilets and we never once came across other guests or had to wait to use facilities. We ate at the restaurant downstairs a few nights too and the food was incredible. It was super quiet we never heard any street noise. Also we were able to store luggage on both arrival and departure days which was a massive bonus too

Pantry and bathrooms have fair service and replenishment of items. Occasionally ran out sugar or shampoo during higher number of occupants on certain days. Love the response of staffs and Sam has been proactive and thoughtful in offering storage of luggage on last day of my stay. I really felt that the hotel is trying their best to be hospitable in many ways possible. Had a wonderful stay and definitely will recommend to friends who likes to visit Cathedral, Museums, Royal.Botanical Park, Hyde Barrack etc.....all walking distances.

Window of room 9 won't close properly and luckily it is not winter yet. There was one day where storm hit Sydney and rained whole day. After which, seen some coakroaches in the room which I didn't notice before the rain. The mini bar was not very cold but just cool.

Loved the location. Super quiet even though it was in such a central location. Loved the beds, such comfy pillows.

It would have been great to have aircon, as it was quite stuffy and there wasn’t a breeze but that’s ok. There wasn’t a breakfast that I was aware of…and the water station didn't have water

Having never been to Sydney, I found the East Sydney Hotel to be the perfect location for me to stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Although there were shared bathrooms it wasn't an issue as there were 3 on the floor. It was kept clean at all times. and there was no waiting for a bathroom to open. The staff there were excellent and amazing well worth the value of the stay.

There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Perfect stay, absolutely no complaints! The bar opens till 1am, but was super happy that in our bedroom, couldn't hear the music etc at all! Massive thank you to your wonderful house keeping lady, we lost a ring in the room & hadn't realised until after we checked out. She found it & attached it to out bags ready for collection later <3 Location was perfect, we walked in / out of the city everyday, in about 10 minutes- and the room was gorgeous, spacious, clean & cool style - the balcony was lovely to have too.

Excellent location and great value for the price. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We stayed 4 nights and were able to leave our luggage with them on checkout day as we had a later flight. Really loved how everything in Sydney was in walking distance. The walk to St. James Station for the airport train was 10 minutes.

The rooms are not air conditioned and we had some warm nights. However the provided large fan made our stay comfortable enough. The three shared bathrooms were adequate and we never had to wait for availability.

Amazing value and rooms for the location! Rooms were very well kept and had all the amenities you’d need for a hotel stay. Very friendly staff and an easy check-in/out process.

The bathrooms could use some improvements. There was always undrained water sitting on the floor, and never a hand towel for drying your hands. I’d recommend the staff just keep some floor towels and hand towels in the bathrooms for guests to use. Would go a long way. Also, I was always worried about locking myself out of my room in the middle of the night (e.g., if I had to use the bathroom), since the doors lock automatically behind you. I’d recommend making the doors normal locks—ones that you need to manually lock yourself from the outside—to ensure guests don’t accidentally lock themselves out for a mid-night or early morning bathroom break.

This is a charming small hotel, situated, in the really beautiful cultural part of Sydney. The bathrooms were immaculate and so clean. The coffee/tea buffet was very welcoming. Hyde Park was a comfortable walk and Metro Woolworths was so close by. The room was so relaxing. I will stay here again.

The mattress was a little uncomfortable.
