The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable and the furnishings in the room are pleasant wood, good quality. The front desk staff was helpful and even printed paper directions for driving to Cape Breton. The location is within a 5-10 minute walk of almost every tourist interest point, shopping and dining and the waterfront. The hotel is attached to a good restaurant that is open until 10 PM.

These are minor, but not insignificant for me, points - the in-room telephone did not work, and despite my mentioning this, it was not made functional for me. -it would be nice to have room garbage collected daily. -the dispensers for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel (attached to the shower area wall) were stiff and difficult to use and the shower gel dispenser was empty and not refilled during my 4 night stay. One expects accessible toiletries in one’s hotel room.

The location of this hotel was perfect. It was in walking distance of everything we wanted to see and do downtown. The price of this hotel was more affordable than others in the area as well. And the staff were very helpful throughout our stay. The restaurant served a delicious breakfast and coffee, which was a great way to start off our day. Most importantly, the bed was comfortable and clean. We didn't hear any outside noise at night, so we had a great sleep. And the bathroom was nice too. I would stay here again for the price, location and comfortable sleep.

The rooms are becoming dated. The carpet looks dirty and the couch didn't look clean, so we didn't sit on it. Although I expected this from previous reviews so it wasn't a shock to me. I was just happy to have a clean bed and bathroom. The heating was tricky to figure out ourselves. We had to call to ask how to turn it on. The heating system is dated so it was on the noisy side, but it did work! The saunas on the other hand didnt work, and the pool was too cold to swim in so we couldn't enjoy any relaxing amenities.

The hotel is perfectly located in downtown Halifax near a great pub called The Split Crow and restaurants and it is very clean and comfortable throughout. The Queen room and the bed were very comfortable, spacious and pleasantly furnished. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the room. Nice breakfast available in the on-site Tempo restaurant which does not belong to the hotel but you can walk straight into it through the hotel lobby. Tempo is also open most evenings for dinner. Very nice swimming pool, pleasantly warm, which was usually not busy mid afternoon. Staff very pleasant and helpful and were responsive and dealt well with any requests that we had. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Halifax. Can't comment on parking as we arrived in Halifax via airport bus with the bus stop being very nearby the hotel.

We were very satisfied with the hotel overall. Only a couple of points worth noting to improve things. Firstly, as mentioned by another recent poster, as the rooms are only cleaned every 3 days for stays over 2 days, the toilet roll supply in each room should be more well stocked to avoid running out before the next room cleaning. Secondly, the pool was lovely and pleasant to spend time in but the tiles in the pool on it's side walls are rather grubby and could to with a good scrub down.

Room was spacious and quiet. Location was great as we were able to walk everywhere from this location. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The floors outside elevator on 2nd floor were mopped at least twice a day. Didn't really need, but wonderful to see this care and attention to cleanliness. We were able to walk a short distance to bus stop that took us directly to airport. The Tempo restaurant on main floor is exceptional as well both food and service.

One lamp in corner did not turn on and that corner with sitting chairs seemed dim (even if the one lamp worked). I forgot to mention as we spent the day out and about, didn't use the sitting chairs.

The location of this hotel is excellent. I was attending a conference in downtown Halifax. It was walkable to the conference, and also to many restaurants and other amenities. There's a pedway to the Scotia Square Mall, which conveniently has a pharmacy with decent hours, and other food and retail shops. The hotel is also just up the hill (big hill, wear comfortable shoes for walking up and down it!) from the Halifax Waterfront, Historic Properties, and the Ferry Terminal to Dartmouth, and down the hill from the Halifax Citadel Historic Fortress. The hotel is also conveniently located on several major bus routes, so getting to other parts of the city by bus was very easy too. The hotel room was clean, with the usual amenities. There's no hotel breakfast, but there is an independent restaurant and cafe on the lobby level. There is a commercial fitness centre in the lower level, and the hotel has a fitness room also. My room, was in the Business Suite section, which gave me access to a nice Business Suite lounge.

I didn't like the lack of hotel breakfast, but as I said above, there are other food options nearby, including on the lobby-level. The lack of a hotel breakfast also meant no room service available. I didn't have a car, but my friend visited me one day and the parking was quite far away and in Scotia Square Mall. This normally might not be such a big problem since these locations are joined by a pedway, but at the time of my stay, there was a major construction project going on near the parking entrance, making accessing it very challenging.

The Barrington is one block from the last stop on the airport bus, #320. Compare the bus price, $4.60/seniors $3, with the taxi price, $72.00! The location was really good for me. On the west side of the hotel a sky bridge accesses Scotia Square, with its food courts and the Enterprise Car Rental (I stayed at the Barrington a couple nights, rented a car for a few days, then returned to the Barrington). On the east side a sky bridge leads from the hotel over to the waterfront boardwalk.

The 'hotel restaurant', the Tempo, is pretty awful, a menu of mostly fried grease. At busy times, it's way understaffed, the few waitstaff running around like crazy. Fortunately, an interior sky bridge leads from the hotel over to Scotia Square, which has a large food court with many options. There's also a good restaurant just down the hill on Duke St...can't remember the name, something nautical.

Central location in the DT core at a reasonable price.

Not the hotel's fault but Barrington St is in middle of major renovation (as of summer 2024). Luckily, I didn't have a vehicle to worry about (especially in regards to parking). Barrington St, a major throughfare into DT, is completely blocked off, so you can't get to the front door of the hotel. Traffic is chaotic as it is directed towards Upper Water St by the Casino (hopefully only temporary) which is not intended for the volume of the traffic. Alternatively, one can follow the curve "up" towards Cogswell St (probably the better choice) and turn left on Albemarle St.

Check-in was great we had to check-in early, and the room was ready. It was our first time traveling to Halifax, and I think we were lucky to get such a great location. We could walk to many of our needs

The rooms could have been a little cleaner. For us we like a ceiling fan. That would have been nice to have, so we could have a little air flow. With us staying for as long as we did, and spending a large amount of money to stay with you. It would have been nice to get a voucher for a meal at Tempo or some kind of thank-you.

Super location for walking around. Parking is a pain (in Scotia Square), but that's to be expected downtown and we walked more than we drove.

The door was hard to unlock ... you had to pull the door towards you and then insert the electronic key. We only figured this out after my daughter had a replacement key card made and still couldn't get in . We had to come back from dinner to help her figure it out. Also, I'm okay with the room not being cleaned when we were only there two nights, but more toilet paper should be stocked in the room in this case. We didn't think of it, since usually it is replaced when cleaning happens, until we ran out in the night on the second night and had to use kleenex (we weren't going to call down when we were half asleep and wait for it to come). This shouldn't be an issue in a hotel ... we are not going to steal the extra rolls!

The rooms, though a little old with their fixtures and furnishings, were very clean and comfortable. I never felt like I was staying in a "cheap" hotel or one that's best days were behind it. The Barrington represented an excellent trade of value and amenities/comfort.

The bath tub should have been fixed as there were scratches and paint chips. Otherwise, I wish they had a discount on parking at the nearby parking garage for guests. The validation system was very confusing since it didn't include a discount, and I did not even use it.
