It was very easy to check in. The room was old, but very tidy and clean and had all the things I needed for my stay. The location can't be beat for the price. Very well soundproofed from the live performances downstairs, just the street outside is where the noise comes from which is typical for downtown Toronto. Comfortable bed and large enough space. I chose to have my own bathroom which was worth it.
Would be nice for more amenities supplied but what they did offer was enough. I think I would have appreciated a box of tissues so I didn't have to use the toilet paper, but that's a minor complaint. It does not have an elevator so people with accessibility issues should be aware of this. The room does get cold fast if you're not running the little radiator. Overall, rather small issues, value for money :)

top location in toronto’s entertainment district with lots of bars and restaurants. also very close (just a 20 minute walk to the cn tower) to the main sightseeing spots and just a few steps to the metro (osgode station). friendly and professional staff. smooth check-in/check-out, free bag storage. great jazz club downstairs. i had the double room with bathroom. everything was clean and just ok for 1 to 2 nights, small but all you need for a short stay. location and rooms are located in an older house, so don’t ecpect modernized rooms. and you can fall asleep with live jazz music. what a treat.
the one thing i do not understand is the overprizing of hotel rooms in toronto. price does not compare to what you get for 1 night (180 cad for 1 person on a weekday). but that is a general thing in toronto and this hotel was by far the cheapest i found. i have spent lots of nights in other metropolitan areas like toronto and always found an ok priced alternative.

Perhaps like staying in a museum replicating a 1920s hotel. The walls of the halls were filled with art and posters of bygone eras. Loved going along the hallways of the two lodging floors and stairwells. Rooms were tiny, but with comfortable beds and very clean & well-kept. The greatest treat was walking back from my conference at George Brown University and settling down in the bar to hear great music. Experience better than staying at any corporate chain hotel at many times the price. Location was walkable, bikeable, and filled with great restaurants. High-energy diverse area.
I paid a bit more for the private bath, so I did not share a bathroom, although that would have been OK too. That was probably the era experience. As noted, the rooms were tiny, but completely adequate. Would not have wanted to spend much room time beyond sleeping in that great location. As I type here, there really was nothing to put in the box of "didn't like."

Very unique and cool place in the heart of Toronto. Very helpful and friendly staff. Rooms where very basic but clean. The whole house has an artistic spirit and the neighbourhood is nice with many small shops and restaurants. We walked everywhere, even not too far to walk from Unionstation. We travelled with our 3 year old who enjoyed the all ages jam session at the Rex as well as the extra folding matress and his glas of milk for breakfast. Breakfast (coffee and toast) was served in the club or on the terrace. It was also possible to store our luggage on our day of departure. Thank you Rex!

Location location location - it was perfect! We could go to main sightseeings by foot, that was very convenient, so we walked a lot and haven’t used public transport, just to/from airport 🙂 Another great advantage - super friendly and helpfull staff, when I was in crisis due to cancelled flight, receptionist was very kind and helped me a lot, I sincerely appreciate it. Also another nice thing - there’s a jazz/blues bar right below the hotel, so if you want to eat or listen to love music (concerts are daily) - that’s perfect to stay there 😉 Concerts didn’t last to late night, so even when we went to sleep early, didn’t hear any noise. Also it was a nice area around the hotel - cozy & fun bars, lots of various places to eat, metro station nearby.
Showers could use some refresh, but overall it was good, the most important is that there was hot water 🙂 and it would be nice to be able to open a window, but we had AC (a bit old, but working) 🙂

It was a great location. It was clean. Good atmosphere out of the room. Good shower in the private bathroom. Convenient for main rail station. Whatever you read about what we didn't like, remember you get what you pay for. And it was inexpensive for the location. If breakfast not booked you can still have tea, coffee and toast. Hair dryer in room.
Smallest double we've ever had. Tiny room. Noisy AC. You couldn't have it on at night. It was a particularly humid night so very sweaty. No lift. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast not available until 9.30.

The location was great, room was clean and bed was comfy. It was small, but was all I needed. It felt safe.
The front desk agent was fine, but not exactly engaging or warm/welcoming. Biggest complaint was that I feel the cover to the club downstairs should be complimentary. I was not expecting to pay the cover and also didn't realize that that show I paid the cover for ended 30 minutes later and that I had to leave and pay another cover later in the evening. I ended up not coming back to the club during my stay and spending money on F&B.

Location was great. We came for an event at Rendezviews right around the corner so we couldn't have asked for a closer stay. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. We should have taken advantage of the ability to hold our bags for the day while we went to our event but I love that it's something you offer. Next time we stay we will have to take advantage of that
There was very little space around the toilet in the bathroom and the bed was quite small for my 6'3 boyfriend but for the location and price we paid it worked well for 1 night. The room would be much better with a mini fridge or something added to keep drinks cool while staying there

This place has real soul and really made my trip to Toronto. All the staff are super friendly (as I found to be the case everywhere in Toronto) and have plenty of suggestions for things to see and do in the city. I booked tickets for evening performances at the bar next door on both nights and got a wonderful spot both times. I cannot stress enough how amazing it is to stay at such an institution with fantastic live music, as a frequent traveller this was probably one of my favourite ever stays. The location is great, lots of restaurants and bars close by and free coffee and toast is an added bonus. The food and drinks at the Rex are also good value and tasty. The shared bathroom facilities are clean and were no issue for me as they always seemed to be free when I needed them. If you're looking for a unique stay and cultural experience then the Rex is the place to book.

It's a quirky hotel attached to a legendary jazz bar, which is awesome. The location is also amazing for the price, with lots of fun stores and restaurants located within walking distance from the hotel. The room had no frills but was clean.
My room was located right above the live band, so it was noisy until the end of the show at 11:15pm, which was as expected and understandable given that the hotel is connected to a jazz bar. The room furniture was minimal and offered little comfort, but that was also expected given the pictures seen online so no surprise there. Minor gripe: I had to call the hotel after my stay to receive a receipt I could use for work.
