you don’t really stay within the original villa, but you stay at a newer building right next to the original one.

Excellent location, very trendy boutique cafes and bars (mostly Japanese, sushi etc.) on the tree-lined street nearby. Extensive breakfast (more Euro/Chinese than American style), 15-20 minute walk to metro. This hotel might seem quirky for Shanghai, but it worked out very well.

Like all the hotels we stayed at in China, only the desk manager can speak any English. I'm not suggesting the whole world should speak my language, just that it's difficult to communicate with other staff, and none know many tourist sights or how to get to them or seem interested in finding out. You'd think a hotel would promote the excellent and interesting boutique shops, cafes and bars nearby, but no one mentioned this. Maybe because 85% of the guests here were older, conservative Chinese people. The rooms were nice, but seem to cater to this demographic.

The rooms are decorated in a consistent style: elegant wooden furniture, excellent textiles, fluffy towels and comfortable robes. A wonderful shower with tropical rain mode and a smart toilet. Windows with classic shutters open onto the garden to wake you up in the morning with birdsong. Breakfast is varied and delicious. Quite cozy, there are no endless buffets, but every item is good and worth trying. The territory is a cozy garden, which is equally good to wander around in the morning and evening, hiding from the bustle of big Shanghai.

What I would like to improve: the readiness of the staff to resolve issues of English-speaking guests, including issues that go beyond the capabilities of the hotel. The arrival area is not very convenient - you unload your suitcases on the roadway.

The broken mirror needs to be fixed, not just use tape.

Definitely an extraordinary experience to stay in a historical mansion. It was fascinating to go around and explore every corner of it and pay attention to the details of the architecture. Breakfast was very good. Rooms are well facilitated. As per the reminder from the hotel, basic amenities like toothbrush and toothpaste was not provided, as it is a new tourism policy in China.

Have translation apps on hand, as the staff’s english is limited.

The architeture of the builldings and the garden. The atrium was magnificent with its enormous stained glass windows with beautifull Art Nouveau motifs. Beautifull paneled surfaces and carved wood all over, particularly on the staircases of both builldings. Breakfast was good, with reasonable choice of bread and pastries.

The delay on check in. The room wasn't ready, and althoug i asked previously for an earlier check in, since i would arrive early morning from europe, they told me it was only possible at 3 pm. Even so the room wasn't ready by that time. After some insistance, they gave me another room, saying it was a better one, and already prepared, but finaly it was in a new extension building and had no bath tube. The staff didn't speak english well enough to be understood.

In general, the room is clean, location is great. Didn't had breakfast as I was rush to back to Office work. Exceptional customer services provided by the night shift lady: Ms. Chau, she handled all my concerns and worried. Although it was pre-booked two day, and charged me in-advance as your booking office staff was not able support, but she handled very well, and promised it will return. very clearn explanation ! Great member !

Decoration of the room and common areas is great. Well equipped room, bathroom with a window, bathrobe and soft towels. Quiet rooms and fresh air from a garden. Garden is small, but cozy. Your neighbours are nice cats.

Small stair in the lobby — it’s inconvenient to move big luggage. Non-Chinese speaking guests spend more time to solve the issue. And be sure to ready pay deposit on check in.

It's a beautifully renovated historic mansion in the perfect location. The staff kindly helped me to check in early and the room was extremely clean and comfortable, with complimentary snacks and beverages and a great rain shower. Breakfast was also a rich spread of options in a beautiful room.

Almost nothing. My one critique is that the scent of the diffuser in the bathroom is a little overpowering. I would prefer something lighter.
