Cute little ryokan. Owner was nice and helpful. The traditional breakfast was delicious and cool to experience, onsen was lovely.

There was a weird musty smell in the room, little bits of mould in the bathroom. I wish the listing was more transparent with the private onsen. You are limited to 1 onsen visit of 40 minutes per booking/stay, which we didn’t find out until paying. I don’t usually leave reviews but wanted to mention this in case others had the same thoughts as we did when booking.

Even though we arrived late, the owner welcomed us warmly, provided essential information, and reserved two private onsen times for us. The traditional Japanese experience with a traditional room, kimonos, private onsen, and breakfast was fantastic. :)

A suggestion, not criticism: During breakfast, we didn't know what each dish was. Maybe having a "menu guide" with pictures and explanations for each dish would help guests understand what we're eating and how to enjoy it. :)

Transportation: 1. Takes you about 1 hour from Odawara station, with the bus (T 桃園台線) to the stop 仙石原文化センター. Check the bus timetable on https://www.hakonenavi.jp/transportation/station/ Extra info: Would be convenient for travellers if purchase Hakone Freepass (3 days) or Fuji Hakone Pass (3 days) in advance from Odakyu website. We used Fuji Hakone Pass (since we were going to Fuji the next day) and did not need to pay any extra fee when taking the buses and other transportation needed. Room 101: downstairs, next to the two private Onsens. Large, and very clean. Private onsens: free to book during check-in, can book one more on the next morning. Love the outdoor onsen, people with tattoos would not get rejected!! Dinner and Breakfast: exceptional!! Better enjoy the dinner after the onsen.

Would need to confirm you would have dinner that night between 5-6 pm (dinner at 7 pm), need to be back early for this one thing.

We loved our time at this Ryokan! The Onsen time is limited to 50 min per session - but this is more than enough time and the Onsen is really beautiful! The food was amazing - very traditional and tasty! If you want to stay at a traditional Hotel and have a truly unique expierence in Japan, I can highly recommend this place!

Honestly, nothing! Best to check-in early, place is well-accessible by bus but it takes approx 1h from odawara station - we left our big luggage there in a locker overnight and did Hakone vulcano and this wonderful Ryokan only with a smaller backpack, and this made the whole trip even better.

The structure is well organised and well maintained. The room was spacious, bathroom a bit tight tho. The amenities were amazing, showing a lot of care from the owners that we really appreciate. The Onsen itself while it might not be visually stunning is relaxing and absolutely lovely to spend time in. Breakfast was amazing! F antastic food, great service and lovely visuals.

Bath was a bit small and time schedule is very tight, at times a bit too tight but nothing that negatively impacted our stay.

A traditional Ryokan experience in Hakone, delicious dinner and breakfast and nice private time in the onsen though it has to be scheduled. Amenities were good. It's Hakone so we knew it wasn't going to be too convenient location-wise compared to the cities but at least it was about a 10-15 minute walk to a bus line and has a vending machine outside and nearby.

The room had an older private bathroom space that was tight, took a little bit for the water to heat up. Sleeping on the floor futon wasn't comfortable. Didn't feel like it was very insulated in the hallway but the Aircon unit kept the actual rooms warm in the cold winter morning.

Good value for a traditional Ryokan experience. As soon as we got there, we scheduled the Japanese breakfast and our time at the private onsen. Overall I would say this is a good budget option for a traditional Japanese experience, compared with some of the others I've seen. The breakfast was tasty and the location was very peaceful and relaxing.

I think the only thing to be mindful of is the location. If you're using local transportation, it's a bit of a faff to go from Hakone to the hotel, with the nearest bus stop being within a 10-minute walking distance. The staff's english at the reception is a bit limited, it wasn't a big issue, but it would have been good to be given more information about our stay. I had to confirm with the hotel which was the correct T-line bus stop to get off on and I only got responses in Japanese. It got the job done, but ideally, I would prefer not to have to use a translator when discussing important details for the trip.

Dinner and breakfast were great, we eat a lot and we tried different Japanese things, it was really interesting. And the view from the restaurant is nice, that put an extra point to the experience. We had 2 rooms, both were nice and comfy. We booked the onsen at night and the morning we were checking out, it was super relaxing and nice. The staff is kind and helpful.

The room view wasn't the best, because there was a construction next to us, but it wasn't noisy. There was a smell in the room a little strange, we get used to it, I think it's because the building is old.

This honestly felt like a premium hotel experience in terms of the level of service we received & the amenities available at the ryokan (private onsen timings, kaiseki experience, etc). The meals here are exquisite & will leave you feeling extremely satiated (do save some stomach space from lunch - you will need it for the dinners they serve here!) The property is also conveniently located about 5-7mins walk away from the bus stop that can bring you to Togendai (stop for Lake Ashi) in about 20 mins. Highly recommended for guests who are not driving in Hakone to use the luggage carry service from Hakone-Yumoto station (Odakyu Line from Odawara) as getting to the ryokan might prove difficult with heavy luggages due to its location. We took a bus from Gora station to get to the ryokan (approximately 30 mins from Hakone-Yumoto station by train) - there are two ways of getting there from Gora station, but it would be more convenient to take Bus S from right outside the station as the other bus stop that Google maps recommends will require you to make a short hike down. The staff was also very helpful in making arrangements for us to book a taxi to Odawara station on our last day in Hakone. Overall, a great stay & a good way to experience traditional Japanese culture :)

The location of this ryokan might be considered rather far out compared to other hotels / ryokans in Hakone, but it is still extremely worth it :)

If you want a genuine Japanese experience this is the place. The Onsen is amazing and your room is a fairly authentic Japanese room with a dining area and floor beds. The beds are good but you are sleeping on the floor so don't expect a nice mattress. We got food in from the local convenience store and ate in the dining area. The breakfast is a Japanese breakfast and the staff will explain what it is and how to eat it. A lot of fish (so don't expect cereal and bacon butty). Worth a night's stay.

Sleeping on the floor; however that's the experience.
