Lovely, quiet setting with handsome rooms and friendly staff. Don’t let non in-room bathrooms deter you- the bathroom is close and immaculate with all sorts of toilets and amenities. Bring your earplugs- it’s a completely wooden building with no sound dampening. It stays quiet, but earplugs will ensure an undisturbed night. OH- and you get a free drink upon check-in which is a lovely touch.

You can take the bus to the hotel usually but it was not running to this stop on our stay, so we had to walk the wet, winding road for a while with no actual sidewalks. It was very difficult crossing the road by the hotel as visibility is low and the road is packed with constant traffic. Though, maybe the bus will be running during your stay, so this shouldn’t deter you unless you have someone with limited mobility in your group.

- property was gorgeous - staff was super helpful, kind and attentive (made us enjoy our (short) stay even more! THANK YOU!!!) - the room was spacious, interior was beautiful, comfortable furniture - unique place for us to stay (we have never been to an Onsen before) - breakfast was tasty and filling - we got a Welcome drink + a short, but very helpful tour of the property - good location, right next to a bus stop on a main street but away from the hustle and bustle of town (3 bus stops from Hakone-Yumoto station or short and walkable distance) - a selection of baths to choose from - a general problem for tourists in Japan: we only brought socket adaptors for type B sockets, but were surprised to find out that most places only have type A sockets… we were really happy that our bathroom had a type A socket to charge our camera battery :-)

nothing! :-)

Right next to a bus stop, easy to get to. Staff provided clear instructions upon arrival and the Kansuiro Annex has it's own outdoor onsens (there is another main Kansuiro building a short walk away with more onsen). Drink on arrival was a nice touch, room was very clean and comfortable. Onsen was lovely after a long day of travelling. I checked with staff ahead of visiting that tattoo's were not an issue for the Onsen use, and had no troubles with that at all.

Nothing, was a great stay.

We had the most authentic experience of our whole stay in Japan! The staff were so friendly and attentive, the room was huge, spotless and traditional, and the onsen in the same and main buildings were clean, relaxing and beautiful. The location was perfect – we could walk from Hakone Yumoto station and there was a bus stop outside, although the bus was very busy depending on the time of day. I really wish we could have spent more nights there!

Everything was great

The ryokan staff were super helpful. The location was great, so close to the onsen. It was a large room with a traditional Japanese styled room. The breakfast was extremely generous and delicious.

The beds were very hard and only one pillow was provided. One towel per day was provided and additonal towels were extra. I was surprised there was no room servicing for the price. Our room was close to the road and the traffic was very busy. Earplugs were provided, and needed.

- Nice location, close to a train station and next to a bus stop. - Shared toilet and showers were really clean and nice. - Good Open baths and onsen. - Simple but nice breakfast.

The reception desk closed at 20:00 so you need to consider this to avoid having issues for the check-in. Hakone is large and the trains and buses have specific schedules, at a times is very crowded (is very popular a lot of turists), and there is just one road for cars and buses so it may get very congested (it was our case) so plan your trip carefully to avoid having issues for the check-in.

Wonderful public baths both within the hotel and next door. I went around dinner time and then late in the evening and had the whole place to myself. The place next door is amazing to wander around too, it was huge! I was a bit unsure about the shared toilet/shower but there was no issue, it was quiet and they had a good hairdryer in the ladies room. The room itself was also exceptional. There were autumn leaves outside my window when the sliding doors were open. A beautiful teapot and teacups were also provided. Yukata and haori were also available, which made me feel so cozy and at home. The bus stop is right outside and there was a great hiking route closeby. They were burning incense in the lobby when I was leaving and it smelled wonderful. And the breakfast was delicious! Overall I couldn't recommend it more.

What an incredible stay - I arrived at the hotel & was instantly enchanted by the location. The room I had was large, very clean & had a wonderful balcony area which looked over a stream. This was by far my most enjoyable hotel experience in Japan & would love to visit again. The Onsen was also a lovely facility - I used it fairly late at night & was the only one there - so tranquil and was the cherry on the top. Cant wait to be able to visit again.

Nothing - wonderful place.

I loved everything about this place. From the moment you turn the corner from the main road, you are transported to a new world. Everything is so personalized. When I arrived, the owner gave me a detailed orientation about the facilities and my room. My room was beautiful and immaculate. There is a complimentary coffee machine in the lounge that is open during certain parts of the day that I visited frequently. The open air hot spring was amazing. I loved the stay so much, I was trying to book another stay while still at the Ryokan. The breakfast was also amazing. It was seafood themed.

Nothing.

It's an amazing place, - Many options for onsen, private, indoor and tow outdoor, one open all night. - Stable wifi (but I didn't test the speed directly) - Decent breakfast (it was more continental though for those looking for more traditional). - perfect blend of old and new style, rooms felt more traditional, but had modern comforts in most (the larger room didn't have built in bathroom, but shared bathroom was next to it, the smaller room had a toilet built in). Yukatas and traditional footwear provided during the stay

- some rooms didn't have a toilet and only had shared. (No rooms we used had showers, but they aren't needed cause you shower at the onsen areas).
