Asante Inn was one of our favorite places we stayed during our trip to Japan. The garden is beautiful and is backed by Japanese hillside making for a gorgeous view from our room and for dinner. The Onsen was private and very peaceful, and it was easy to reserve a time slot of arrival. We had dinner and breakfast at the Inn, both of which were fantastic. They also had thought of lots of extra services to make the stay easier, including a shuttle service and baggage forwarding to the nearest train station. As others have mentioned, if taking the bus there is a 5-10min paved walk uphill to reach the Inn which may be challenging for those with mobility issues.

I love this place so much, everything is so amazing (Onsen experience, bedroom, landscape and cozy atmosphere, ect). Indeed i even don’t know why it is just 1-star-hotel 🥲. The experience made me felt like i was home and would love to come back in the future. I guess the most outstanding one was the “authentic Ryokan style”, i had searched for this from many other places but i do feel like there is not much place now can offer such traditional style like this guest house. Btw, the staff is so supportive to help me call taxi and cook amazing food for us <3.

The water from bathroom basin was cold :(

I’m very picky at most things and not a pleasant person to deal with, but that place and people who work there have left me no chance but to like them and to fall in love with Japan in general. After this trip I’m depressed for picking Chinese over Japanese as a uni major 😫😅 The staff have anticipated our every thought and took care of things almost like magical fairies : they were only noticeable when needed and the rest of the time we felt like the whole place belonged solely to us. Even though there were other guests there. And little messages everywhere that make you read the clues and use your brain instead of constantly asking stuff for help like a child is the best thing for me. Plus the price is resonate even for a poor Ukrainian bastard like me😅. 10 out of 10.

Rooms could use at least a simple humidifier in winter

100/10 - Asante Inn should give lessons on how to run a guesthouse for all guesthouse owners! The staff are lovely, the home and gardens are beautiful, food was great, beds super comfy, but best of all was the vibe of the place and how welcomed you feel at this lovely inn. I wish I could have stayed longer and I will most definitely come back. Everything was clean and in order. The shuttle in the morning to the station was really appreciated and the owner and staff were so helpful in giving suggestions of what to do in the area and alternatives when weather did not permit for some attractions. I want to thank everyone for having me, it was such a lovely stay and I look forward to coming back.

Stunning garden, very nice staff recommended travel routes based on our plan and needs, clean bedding, quiet in the after hours. Very good onsen with the greatest value you can imagine. Shuttle is provided every morning to Gora station and breakfast is so delicious. I am not a big fan of Hakone to be honest since it’s so tourist and crowded, but staying in this inn is the righteous thing I did for this trip!

There’s a very steep slope walk after you hop off the bus and it takes 7min to walk to the inn. Will be difficult if you carry your own luggage.

This place is beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay. However we had 3 little kids with us and at times we felt a little out of place as our kids were just being kids. So if you have little kids that are loud I would maybe pick another property as there were a lot of couples and families with older kids. The Onsen was amazing and the kids really enjoyed that and so did we. The food was also really good and the breakfast was good too. There is not much around there. My oldest daughter and I walked to the craft house (20 minute walk) which I would highly recommend. We did glass blowing and created our own Earings. Wonderful experience

Lovely inn, great location, staff were kind and helpful! We had our 5 year old daughter with us and everyone including other guests were welcoming toward her. The private onsen was easy to reserve and so relaxing. Food was good too. Lounge was cozy! We loved our stay and would highly recommend it! Shout out to the reception gentleman who wears many hats and made sure everything was excellent!

The only minor thing I could think of for improvement would be if they offered a smaller robe for children. They did have small slippers for children, but the robe was huge. We made it work, but that was just a very minor thing. Or had we known there was no robe for kids we probably would have brought one. That was one of our favorite parts lounging in our robes.

Stunning property! Traditional rooms and beds which was a a wonderful experience. The staff are very helpful and friendly! Food was yummy, they offer nice dinner options, Japanese breakfast is delicious and the private Onsen is wonderful after a long day of walking (tattoo friendly, as it’s private). There are many things to do around the area like the Open Air Museum and explore the craft-house and Gion Park (we made some jewellery). And of course Lake Ashi and views of Mt Fuji on a clear day on the rope way was an amazing day trip! To get to the accommodation we got the bus from Odawara station to the bottom of the hill, so there is a very steep walk up to the accommodation just to be mindful of, with bags and the heat was a bit tricky. The lovely owner drives a shuttle a few times each morning to Gion Station and the museum so you don’t have to walk, you’ll just need to find your way back, which isn’t too difficult. There are some taxis at the station too if you don’t want to walk up the hill with bags, so maybe best to get the train to Gion station then a taxi? Beautiful place to stay! Loved it!!!

We had a truly wonderful stay here! The staff provided clear and helpful instructions on the best way to reach the guesthouse, particularly by bus if you're traveling from Odawara or Hakone-Yumoto. From the bus stop, you'll need to walk uphill for about 7 minutes—it’s a slope rather than stairs, so it’s manageable. While Gora Station is nearby, walking from the guesthouse to the station involves a steep uphill climb, so it's not ideal. However, the downhill walk from Gora Station to the guesthouse is fine—just be prepared for a good number of stairs. Alternatively, the guesthouse offers a convenient shuttle service to Gora Station in the morning (9AM, 10AM, 11 AM). The guesthouse offers breakfast and dinner for an additional charge. We tried the dinner, and the food was delicious and well-prepared. The common area is warm and inviting, especially with its cozy fireplace. The highlight of our stay was the private onsen, which was absolutely amazing! Do note that you'll need to book it upon check-in. While this was one of the more expensive accommodations we had in Japan, the experience was well worth it for the quality, comfort, and unique features and very helpful staffs. We highly recommend it!

The breakfast was amazing. Best one I’ve had in Japan. Perfectly cooked thin piece of salmon With all the wonderful condiments, pickles, rice, miso, and I’m sure I am forgetting some things. The coffee was good, too.

I absolutely loved the onsen system they have set up. Instead of a men’s and women’s on son, there is a right side and a left side and you can reserve a timeslot for either side. Every room is guaranteed a 40 min slot on the evening, and maybe more than one if there aren’t too many people. Mornings are first come first served. The only down side is that the changing rooms for the onsen have a mildew smell. I’m more sensitive to it than most people, so it was strong for me, however it did not diminish my enjoyment of the onsen itself.
