Room is enormous, balcony offers a great view of inner garden, toilet is at the entrance away from the living area and separate from the wash room so no need to worry if your partner has a runny stomach, decor of room is very traditional Japan with paper balcony door (inside real glass sliding window), wooden bathtub at the balcony with shades so you can have naked bath with your love ones while enjoying the view. Onsen is great with men and women public bath and also 3 private baths that let you enjoy with your partner, private bath cannot be reserve and must be first come first serve, if you want to use the private bath, use it early morning before breakfast, free ice-pops-tickle and yogurt drink after onsen, comes with traditional japanese dinner (fish hotpot or beef hotpot) and traditional japanese breakfast (grill fish with rice), we told the hotel beforehand we are coming for our wedding anniversary and hotel is kind enough to write us a congratulation card and even some lovely souvenir to keep. Location wise it can't be any closer to the mountain train, only 2 mins walk to the train station and 2mins walk to the cable car going up to the volcano and very very close to the Hakone Gora Park with some nice landscaping and gardening. Remember to get the 2 day Hakone pass so you can freely enjoy all the scenic location (unlimited use). Free welcome snacks when arrived and free use of Kimono at the reception (have different color to choose from for men and women).

The hotel is a little aged so naturally some small mould around the wooden open air bath is unavoidable, toilet is at the entrance while the wash basin is at the other end of the room so you can't do all the sanitary stuff at the same place. No convenient stores nearby so you are on your own at night (though the hotel has some vending machines offering beer and drinks and ice-cream), the neighborhood close quite early at night in November so you have nowhere to go after 6pm (but you can use the amenities inside the hotel)

The location was beautiful. The room was the comfiest bed of our entire trip and the private outdoor bath was a great experience. The other public baths were lovely. We paid for dinner and breakfast, we don't regret at all. There's a little souvenir shop in the venue with specialties from the area. They provided a lot amenities for the experience, like the free yukata rental, popsicle and yakult after baths and a late-night ramen service.

The private mixed baths had lower maintenance at the end of the day, so be warned there might not be anymore replacement mats if you're going for a midnight dip. It was unclear where you could go for a change of towels. I'd also prefer to shower at the public baths area since in the room, the shower/sink is actually outdoor with the private bath.

Very close to the station

A bit dated in area’s - probably carpet change etc. No vegetarian options at the restaurant.

This is a magical, romantic, healing place! We got engaged here 5 years ago and came back this time with my parents to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The hotel prepared a lovely card in their room which was so thoughtful and kind. They also went out of their way to accommodate some special dietary limitations which was greatly appreciated. Amazing experience all-round from the food, private onsen, spacious rooms, and the staff are all so kind and courteous. The best part of all is having your own bathtub on the balcony, so even if the public baths are very busy or reserved (as was the case this time we visited) you can still enjoy a peaceful bath overlooking the trees and mountains. The location is also very convenient if you want to visit Lake Ashi or do some sightseeing around Hakone, just steps away from Gora train station. There is also a very cute little cafe with amazing coffee (and cheesecake!) directly across the street from the hotel entrance if you arrive early or need to recharge!

We were a little disappointed that the hotel no longer serves the delicious steam buns in the afternoons, and has done away with the snack buffet which used to have sweets, biscuits and crackers available for guests at any time. The free drinks are also only black coffee, tea or water. No juices or soft drinks anymore.

Location was good, good was okay

Hotel is dated, including the onsen area, the meal was okay and large quantities, but for the price of the hotel, it could be better. We stayed 2 night, they have 2 options for the dinner, so tried both course. The quantities is good but with the high price of the hotel, I believe the food quantities can be better.

Amazing location for exploration of the area; public and private baths; big rooms; little treats next to onsen; helpful staff; almost everyone spoke decent English and was patient with our broken Japanese; long hours of work for onsen (5-10 & 15-01) and massage therapy (15-24); great traditional breakfast served individually; cute inner garden.

Rooms in Moon building are quite tired and smell a bit funny; we've stayed in Flower building 7 years ago - rooms there were way more clean and newer, though much could have changed since then. I loved beef dinner, my partner didn't enjoy his kaiseki on both days, but it's a matter of taste I guess. Largest sumue size is LL and slippers all are one size, so for larger guests (2m height, 130+ kg) it's advisable to bring its own change of leisure clothes. Young waiter was somewhat rush and rude at tempura dinner on Dec 4, but it could also be his limited English. No shared space to pass time before / after checkout except for lobby where everyone is busy with their luggage.

Loved the private onsen in the room and the futon beds were surprisingly comfortable. Dinner was tasty. They offer some free snacks which I thought was nice.

Slightly expensive for the overall experience in my opinion, but still a good hotel.

the Women’s onsen was terrific and clean.

the waiters and waitresses rushed our meals. did not take the time to greet us and explain what the dishes were. For our Shabu Shabu dinner, the male waiter told us with his hands to just put the vegetables in the hot pot. did not explain what the dishes were. we asked and he had to check. the waiter was very in experienced, rushed us and wanted to get us to finish asap.

Loved the hot springs and the meals were incredible.

The property is tired. Old wallpaper and rugs. I was surprised that the staff did not come in to make up my futon each night. I had to do it myself. The futon was ok, but not great comfort as in other ryokan I have stayed at. As American visitors, no one offered to help with ryokan customs or how to properly eat the food. I had been to a higher service ryokan before so I knew what to do. I think this property would be a bit difficult for an inexperienced traveler.

Great location just one block from the train station. Check in was quick and easy. Afternoon snacks were available in the lobby when we arrived. Beautiful, well maintained property.

Took me a while to find the ice pops offered in the evening. And never had a chance to get a probiotic drink in the morning (not sure if they ran out and never restocked or just never put the out). I asked someone at the front desk, but they just directed me to the coffee station. I also asked about getting a taxi at the front desk and they told me none are available (all fully booked) but I found a line of taxis by the train station.
