January 2025

Stay for four nights not disappointed at all. It was around January. Everything is Snow White magical atmosphere the hotel is located in a small town. There are nearby restaurants. I took the full course so I had breakfast and dinner every day. The food is amazing Japanese traditional style I took the Japanese style room. It was comfortable and spacious. Really nice view of the river sitting in a cozy room enjoying my green tea was an amazing experience. The open bath was great. There are two open baths and they change around the evening. It is just amazing to sit outside. It's snowing listening to the river water this is why I booked this hotel, it met made my expectation on highly addressed renting a car because of the remote area

Nice location along the river, the onsen offered peaceful setting, enjoyed our evening stroll through the community. Meals were good and plentiful. It was a nice property but not stuffy or over the top luxurious. Staff were excellent and helpful. The room had a very nice layout with lots of room, nice sitting area, nice balcony overlooking the river. Everyone should experience a ryokan stay. It did not appear that they cater to overseas visitors.

The customs and rituals that go with a ryokan stay are not intuitive for an overseas traveler, but really should not be missed. It is one of the top experiences when in Japan. We are glad our son was along to explain things to us, it took a lot of the worry out of our stay.

The whole place is beautifully made up. Traditional furniture and decoration, presented in a very clean and decent way. The atmosphere is super peaceful and we found the place to be spotless. The dinner and breakfast were Teishoku sets and absolutely delicious and filling, while satisfying all flavours. The outdoor baths where absolutely stunning, right next to the river and with view of the forest behind. The futons where really cozy and comfortable and the Yukatas provided where comfi as well. The Japanese style room is equipped with hot water for tea, two low tables and one with high chairs and while we had dinner staff prepared the futons for us. We will keep this amazing stay in mind for a long time! :)

The english level of the staff could be better but it was sufficient to understand everything and get the important information :)

The food was really good and the meals were large, so worth the price. The room was beautiful and clean, and staff were kind and helpful. The bath locations and temperature had variation, to meet all kinds of needs. Location itself was beautiful as well and the locals were friendly, definitely recommend walking around. There is a small town, dam, and a beautiful lake upstream of the river as well as a couple small shrines along the way.

As a foreigner I wish the bathing process and the food was initially explained a little better to me, but I figured it out pretty quickly. Regardless the staff were patient and kind with me despite the language barrier. As a side note, there are lots of dragonflies and other insects around the property being that it is right next a river. Personally, they never bothered me but if you don't like insects, don't go outside of the cities in Japan!

Room is extremely spacious, with a toilet, bathroom and wash basin at a separate corner. There's a big fridge and electric airpot. Lightings are adequate, and just enough power sockets to use. Wi-Fi connection is good. Its hot spring is big, with some outdoor ones facing the river, very relax to dip inside, enjoying the river view and listening to its water gushing sound. Meals are in the form of multi-course dishes, served at a common dining area. Very satisfied with all the dishes. All staff are generally courteous. It's actually not that far to walk to the central town area. The bus stop is located right outside of the ryokan, together with a convenience and liquor store which opens till 9pm. Check-out is until 11am which is great.

Though we stayed on a high floor, the view is not that good, with a balcony ledge that blocks the river view, and an instruction stating not to go out onto it. Toilet space is very tight.

The Onsen with the river view is really fantastic. Rooms also have riverview and are quite large. We had kaiseki meal for dinner and breakfast and it was great to try all these diffrent things and be neither to full nor hungry afterwards. Very beautiful landscape. I went with my japanese Partner, who also enjoyed it very much. The Hotel employees knew that a foreigner would come and had someone who spoke english (which was not necessary since my partner Steaks japanese but I appriate the effort).

The buses come only once in a few hours on a monday which was very inconvient. But the location is in the midfle of the mountains so that's catch. It might be little difficult to get there with no japanese. So people should keep this in mind and plan in advance.

The location was gorgeous, both the ryokan and the surrounding areas. There's a luxurious main lounge with small shops and restaurants that almost seem like you're wandering through a tiny town. There are multiple public onsen with views of the river that seemed close enough to touch. The room itself was quite spacious with a nice river view, a kotatsu, complementary tea and an electric kettle, a private toilet and shower, and more. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Also, the proprietress did an entertaining picture show performance of The Mermaid and the Red Candles.

I liked the onsen on both levels 2 and 7. They were large, clean, and private. The temperature was excellent and the facilities were sufficient.

I felt that the lights were too bright in the dining hall for patrons in the 'less expensive' rooms making us feel of secondary value to the hotel. I didn't like that we had to walk through the more pleasantly-lit dining room to access the brightly lit dining room.

The onsen was amazing and the highlight of our stay. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They really made an effort to accommodate us even though we do not speak Japanese. The river next to the hotel makes it so relaxing and peaceful. The hotel provided instructions for us on how to use the onsen, as it was our first time.

The pillows were not very comfortable.

The setting is stunning - views out the lobby window are like a painting and the sound of running water will put you to sleep. The food was amazing as well. Generous, multi-course meals for every meal. Both Onsen are great, but the outdoor pools are particularly excellent. And it’s close to Sekizenkan so you can go for a walk to get your Spirited Away snapshot, but I’d rather stay here.

Nothing - it was great.
