Loved everything about our stay at this hotel! Exceeded our expectations in every way. Firstly the hotel is beautiful, immaculately clean and in a perfect location. From the time you enter, the staff are exceedingly friendly, helpful and so kind. The checkin process is semi-automated but a wonderful and modern experience and staff guide you through it. The hotel has a beautiful aesthetic and attention to detail. Provides options for local activities and food, laundry services, smart TV. The rooms are spacious and extremely clean. We used the onsen on site and what a delightful and calming experience. The laundry service was easy to use. They have washer/dryers so you don’t need to worry about switching your laundry between machines. We walked everywhere and found the hotel to be perfectly located and easy to find our way back. Can’t say enough nice things about our stay. The hotel is doing things right and has a modern approach that we enjoyed. Would definitely return to Takayama to stay at this hotel again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The location and the rooms itself. It looks like a very new hotel and the private bath was great as well

The breakfast was amazing! We had the Japanese-style breakfast most days, but I had the Western-style one day and that was also good. The onsen was another highlight. It is indoors and on the basement level, but there is a nice Japanese garden outside the window. The lobby and style of the hotel is modern. The staff were friendly. Most had limited English, but they were always able to help with our questions. We also really enjoyed renting the electric bikes from the hotel. Takayama is a great town to bike around and the rental rate was very reasonable.

Not a big deal, but the big parking lot out front gives a bit of a suburban or airport hotel feel on arrival.

This hotel is an all round winner. Superb location: Short walk in a straight line along the main road from Takayama JR and Nohi Bus Center. Plenty of restaurants and a Family Mart just across the road. Family room: Love the beautiful tatami room style Family Room with 4 single beds. Spring mattresses and fluffy pillows. Lots of space for meals together at the table, a pantry, and well-thought layout that provides space to stow away three suitcases. Beautiful public spaces: Love the Good Local area in the lobby that recommends local merchants to support and cultural finds and sells a small selection of local produce. Laundry room: Six machines that can be monitored on the TV in room.

Nothing to complainabout! I wish there are more Hotel Around properties all over Japan, so I can use them wherever I go.

Big comfortable room, quiet, good beds. The location is perfect right next to the station. Very nice onseen including a private one you can rent out for 45 min for quite cheap price. Very nice loungewear and local shop promoting the region's products.

The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. We choose continental breakfast but it felt more like a lunch menu than a brekkie. In any case better not to expect butter, bread and cheese in Japan, it's not common to find these things.

It is a very new and modern hotel with very good beds and facilities. I’d definitely recommend it. It is convenient to be right next to the train and bus station and only some minutes away walking from the old town.

We didn’t book the breakfast in advance and when we tried to book it upon arrival, they told us that it was already full. It was the first time that we find ourselves in a situation like that. They did not provide any alternative for us and at 7am is very hard to find anything open around. Given it is a large hotel, they should find a way to solve this problem so that there is not such limited capacity for breakfast at the usual times.

Just a short 2-3 minute walk away from the Takayama train station, this is really an awesome place to stay. After the limited express or bus, one can easily walk over the pathway to the hotel, which can be seen from afar. You will not miss the large sign on the top and the very nice brown orange coloured building. Upon entry, you will be greeted by very polite staff and a very pleasant environment. Check in process was such a nice one and we were given free gifts and also a personal bag for amenities. And there’s a free onsen available on the 2nd floor! Room was really superb and everything was in top notch quality. It was super easy to walk to nearby walking street and also around takayama. Highly highly recommend this place if you are going to Takayama.

The breakfast selection was good. Cafe and front desk employees were friendly and helpful. I forgot my purse in the restaurant overnight. The front desk called my friend’s room to inform her they found my purse. I picked it up in the morning with everything intact.

We struggled with finding the hotel . We drove around looking for the Ascend Hotel but Google Apps took us to around Takayama. After circling the block several times, we realized Ascend was the hotel chain not the hotel.

Excellent staff and service. Easy to park at hotel which allow multiple entries and exits. Walking distance to most attractions and old town. They even serve hot soba on New Year Eve.

To improve even better, breakfast can be freshly cooked and served hot. We tried Western breakfast, but no fried or poached or scrambled eggs and toasts. But I can understand this is the way to ensure short waiting time. Also onsen is a bit small and crowded.

Location was fairly near the JR Takayama Station. A bus station is also nearby. Restaurants are a walking distance. I really liked their initiative to put together a tourist guide for Takayama which can be found in the lobby. The guide was very comprehensive in suggesting activities, destinations and food to try during your stay in Takayama. Twin Room was also fairly large for a Japanese Hotel. Facility was clean and would definitely stay here again. Staff has been really helpful, warm and accommodating.

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights during winter. I would have appreciated it if they shoveled the snow on the sidewalk in front of the hotel, so it is easier to drag luggage.
