The hotel is so close to the station, you can actually see it from the platforms, and arriving on a very hot day in summer, I was glad to get to the hotel so quickly once getting off the train. We arrived before check-in, like a lot of other people, and they were very happy to store our luggage until later, while we walked into town for cold drinks. The rooms themselves are spacious and very well-equipped. The kitchen area is quite small, but useable, but the best part for me was the washing machine. There is a drier as well, but we were able to hang items on the balcony and they were dry in a few hours. The location was good too. Takayama is quite a small place, and the older streets and shopping area were within easy walking distance. There's a Family Mart just over the road, and plenty of places to eat within walking distance.
A few more clothes hangers would be nice, but there is very little to fault about this hotel.

Very near the Takayama station, less than 5min walk away. Rooms are beyond spacious, with a balcony as well as kitchen are equipped with toaster, cooking hob, washing machine etc. Free giant bottle of water daily and if you don’t need housekeeping, you get to choose a free gift like a beer or crackers. Free ticket to use onsen at a different hotel, about 10min walk away. Near to a number of stores and eateries all around.
Need a key to lock and unlock, and there are no spare keys. Lift is really small and slow so need to factor in time if you are in a hurry.

The morning and early afternoon staff were great! The location is great too as it is beside the bus station for all day trips and for coming and going to Takayama. It is incredibly handy to have a washer dryer in the room, the balcony is a plus for night time views and everything was very comfortable. There is a cafe but we didn't get to use it as it was closed by the time we got there and their day off was the following day. the free large bottle of water everyday was helpful, we barely got through them but at least didnt have to buy any to have in the room!
The late evening and night time receiption male staff member with longish dark hair was not very polite and didnt seem to want to help when we had questions and the air felt very unwelcoming when he was working. The rest of the staff were fantastic!

The location of this place can't be beat for convenience. Our balcony was literally overlooking the bus/train station, and still, it was super quiet on that part. It's a perfect base for day trips to Kamikochi or Shirakawago. The room we had was the biggest we had in Japan, feeling more like a small appartment. Kitchenette, washing machine, a covered balcony to dry your stuff, good AC and wifi, we had everything we needed. There is also a supermarket within 10 minute walk.
There could be a little bit more care to the cleaning of the kitchenette area, we could see traces of previous cookings on our stove. Other than that, everything was super clean! Also, the soundproofing between floors was not the best, we could easily hear people walking around over our heads.

The location is fantastic. It is located near Takayama station, Takayama bus terminal, old town and good restaurant. Oh, not to forget the hotel is surrounded by souvenir shops. You can purchase a day tour to Shirakawa-go from the bus terminal counter. The amenities provided and the beverages provided in the fridge are great, too! We are happy to see condiments provided in the fridge, so you can cook with no worries of wastage. The bed is firm, and so are the pillows. They provide quite a few hangers, too.
The lift is a bit small, so I believe you will have to wait a while in order to get into the lift.

The location is 2 minutes from the station and a few minutes from the historical houses. The room was big and with a pleasant view over the station and the mountains. There was a sliding wall between one bed and the other two, which was really good to read before going to sleep without bothering others. There were a lot of free drinks in the in the fridge. Washing/dryer worked really well. Also a lot of products available in the bathrooms.

Out of all the hotels I’ve stayed in in Japan, this one is by far the best. The room is very clean and fragrant, and has complete amenities in the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. It even has a washing machine that is easy to use. I also love the balcony - it has a great view of the train station. The staff are really nice. They communicate and respond well to questions. They even offered me extra bottled water when I requested for more. One of them also helped me with my luggage delivery even though he was on his break. The hotel is in a perfect location, just beside the bus/train station. There’s a FamilyMart nearby and everything is a short walking distance away. I really got my money’s worth. I would definitely stay here again! I had a lovely time.

I have never sent in a review for my bookings but for this accommodation, I really must. The overall experience at Residence Hotel was beyond my expectations. First, let's start with the room and facilities. The room was clean and spacious. It was extremely helpful that there was a washing machine for us to use. We even cooked and the ventilation was good enough for no smell to linger behind. Of course, the toilets are clean as always, just like most hotels I've stayed in Japan. I am extremely particular about cleanliness and the state of the rooms I book, so this accommodation really exceeded my expectations. Next, the service. It was exceptional. Here is the context to my comment: On the third day of our stay, we realised the fridge wasn't working. It was definitely working the first two days because we kept fruits and groceries in them. I went to the concierge and a staff member went up to help me get it running. They told me to inform them if it still didn't work the next day. Unfortunately, it did not work but we were too lazy to let them know. We decided to let them know when we checked out so that they could get it fixed before the next guest arrives. Later, the female staff I spoke to about the fridge gave us a box of Japanese snacks to apologise for the fridge even though they didn't have to. She mentioned that they felt bad that the fridge spoiled when we were staying there for our anniversary. This thought and care in their service recovery was so heartwarming and I am so appreciative of it. Her service was also exceptional because prior to the gift, I had to trouble her to help me make cancellations for my other reservations on the phone. My biggest regret was not getting her name so that I can credit her here. Thank you Residence Hotel team! You were all wonderful :)
I don't think I need to answer this question 😂

Location was excellent, next door to train, bus and a Family Mart. Direct access to streets with many restaurants. Undercover parking good for winter, only ¥800 per day, held spot if you go out. Our top floor (10F) suite was amazingly spacious for 4 of us. Loved the shower/bathroom. So much storage space to unpack for a few days stay. Felt like a home away from home. Staff were very lovely.
Large kitchen was awesome but didn’t have knives or teaspoons with provided cutlery. A cultural thing I’ve found while being in Japan. (How do you spread butter on bread or toast?)

We had a room on the top level with views over the city, mountains and the station - it was a spectacular view as the snow started to fall. The hotel was quiet, perfect location for early morning tours and had a well equipped kitchen for self catering. Plenty of space being the largest hotel room in our 3 week trip to Japan. Staff were friendly and helpful too, and provided free daily drinks in the fridge. We also tried the outdoor family onsen at their partnered hotel down the road, which was a great experience.
We liked everything about it :)
