Great location; the inexplicable feeling of staying in a heritage place; the beautiful garden; affordable despite its heritage

I have stayed here before, too. It's a place that hasn't undergone gentrification (yet), which i love. I also love the heritage and rustic vibes. But certain things don't have kept archaic--1) there could be a ramp to pull our luggage so that we don't have to carry them the long way 2) an elevator is a necessity, and not a luxury especially when you have steep stairs to the upper levels, 3) there should be proper signage to the parking 4) breakfast have plenty of scope to improve, and 5) noisy guests. The hotel can do more to ensure they attract the right crowd. There is a sign board in the rooms stating this. But it is in English. Perhaps, provide a Mandarin version too, and also state it clearly and firmly when guests sign in at the lobby.

The property itself is gorgeous! So many little details and history scattered around inside and the gardens outside and wrapped around the pool are lovely. Location is the best. Right near the waterfront, a Chinese temple and during my stay I had night markets 50m from the doorstep! Room was spacious with great aircon and bathroom. Bed was super comfy. No pool bar but you could just as easily get drinks from reception as needed. Breakfast is simple. Coffee, tea, juice, cereal and toast so if not to your liking many spots to eat right out the front door.

Location was perfect. Quiet for being right in old town. Surrounded by historic district was really great. Plenty of places to eat. Easy walk to the water. Nice pool. Restaurant Kantin next door was excellent. Not cheap but great. Staff super helpful. We really liked our stay very much.

There were lots of steps to access the rooms and no lift. This could be a deterrent for some. The floor is uneven and could be trip hazard. Point is, not a place for handicapped people. Unless they have a section I don’t know. The breakfast was super basic. Toast and cereal. Fine by me. I don’t care about breakfast much. Nice place to sit.

The room was great and the ambience of the area feels really private despite being in the city centre. I had a great time using the common area to do work after checking-in at about 3pm. The classic building is charming.

The noise from other rooms (old buildings are like that), the shower pressure is a bit weak. Parking is quite a challenge, the building in front of the hotel is a bit too creepy to park at.

Love the location. Easy car parking access if required. Beautiful pool.

The poolside furniture requires refresh on the paint or clear lacquer. Unfortunately the bare wood stains bathers and towels when wet. It would be nice if the breakfast was setup to be ready at 7am. Tours pickup around 715 so each morning there wasn’t time to grab food because the food was only being brought in after 7. Even if there was just milk kept in fridge or bread would be nice.

I loved the authentic and unique vibe of the hotel - at the edge of the historic centre, in an over century-old, historic building - it was a treat! The swimming pool was very nice addition. Also, there is a very basic breakfast (coffee,toasts).

For the price it is quite basic (when it comes to the furnishing, number of power sockets, etc)- but given the historic aspect of the building it is understandable.

The breakfast is terrible. I was very disappointed. Only white toast and cornflakes, very unhealthy but easy and cheap for the hotel. And that in a country where there are so many lovely fruits. Also nothing local for breakfast. The kitchen lady could do so much more than only sweeping the floor all the time. The staff can be more committed and welcoming. I also missed a fridge in the room.

The location was very strategic - very near to Kuching waterfront, eateries and souvenir shopping places. Breakfast was simple but very good. Very nice fresh English bread and indeed good black coffee which is free flow. The room is very clean, neat, and well-designed, which makes me feel at home and the bathroom is contemporary, spacious and comfortable.

The distance from check in counter was rather far from the rooms and I had to hike up several staircases. Not very convenient if the visitor brings large and heavy trolley luggage. Otherwise, this would not be an issue for light travelers. Perhaps the management could consider to provide a more convenient access to the rooms from the check in counter.

I like the concept of this stay, the concept is to die for and I love the deco n interior of it. This colonial-like building has three levels and there are common place at 2nd & 3rd level (you can get the view of Sarawak DUN building). Surely will stay here again.

I wasn't clear with the check-in procedure as the front counter and the designated parking for the stay (need to enter via St Mary church) are quite far. Maybe need to put on notice for that so the future guests wouldn't get confused.

perfect location, historical building, beautiful sitting areas where you can appreciate the natural surroundings, views and the ambience of the sitting

the first floor rooms are not sound proof so all the footsteps, bags being moved around etc from the above floor travel through the ceiling almost as if thee people were in your room. if people are in the communal sitting area talking, you can hear it all loud and clear. a small price to pay for the opportunity to stay somewhere so historically beautiful though.
