The easy access to my room through the back entrance. Location was good for walking to the shops ect
So. My bed only had 3 legs, the 4th leg was made up of bits of wood that were unstable. I could hear the person in the room next door snoring even when I closed the bathroom door. The light in the bathroom was to dim. The walls all around the bed were black and needed a good scrub. It smelt musky throughout the hole room. The plug in heater had broken wheels. I honestly had no option but to stay as there was zero accom left in Alex at the time I stayed. The shared kitchen was filthy.

Nice and clean, good value for a hotel bed being about the same cost as a dorm bed in the more expensive upmarket backpacker hostels.
The receptionist could have shown me the guest kitchen and lounge when they took me to my room. Being a hotel, I would not have expected to have a kitchen for guests, but was glad there was one.

Breakfast set up very good--a fully equipped kitchen with all I required in serve /prepare yourself style--Cornflakes , milk, sugar , toast bread , butter, jam etc tea bags, instant coffee--All I required--if you want cooked breakfast you would have to supply basics--ie : bacon eggs etc--all the required stuff was there to facilitate cooking--pots/pans etc , range top, microwave etc--I only like a light breakfast and it was all there
It suited me--The only staff member I saw during stay was the guy in bar when I checked in---I was out all day for my stay and was aware that housekeeping staff had been there--but did not see them Only grizzle I had was the card/code entry at front door--I came back early in the evening and setting sun right on front door and code etc area--It is very old and black---I could not see anything and had to go into bar next door and get guy to let me in--minor--but assume bar maybe not open on a Sunday and I would be in Poo if staying then--minor thing really--but could be a menace

The staff made you feel welcome, The room was clean, bed was comfy, The kitchen (for all guests to use) was good. We were told toast and jam was supplied for the morning which was a bonus because of the cheap price. Great place to stay while travelling to the bottom of the North island.
Overall the only thing I can think of was the parking as there was only street parking. but was easy to find a spot out the back

Location is great. Staff very friendly & helpful. Breakfast was continental with plenty of food available. Very comfy warm bed, good heater in room. Hotel is old and quaint & has a few grubby corners but the cleanliness was pretty good overall.
The noise from the room next door, although they were just talking, that & the snoring kept us awake. There were other empty rooms so we didn't have to be next to them. Also the annoying drip, drip of rain onto the metal lid over the gas bottles outside. The shower curtain Room 9 could do with a good wash/replacement.

The service. We were shown too our room. We were offered an extra blanket as well! and even an extra heater if we needed it. But we did not as the room was warm enough.
The walls are very thin. I could hear the man in the room next room snoring. Up to about midnight (I think) there was the noise of a compressor or big heater. The noise came from down stairs I think

Loved the view and and old building. Good price for travellers
The worst shower head water pressure ever. Better to put your head under a tap then the shower

Location was good. Downtown and close to river trails. My room was not made up so offered me upgrade to ensuite. Asked if I was doing any biking. As I was they suggested to bring bike inside to store it. A bonus was a kitchen. I used the fridge and microwave. Main things were the bed was comfy. I slept the best I had for a week. The shower had plenty hot water. Towels and bedding were in good cobdition.
Hey its an older style NZ hotel. Rooms and decore were dated. But look past that and it was good value. Better than a dorm in a backpackers.

Great to have individual 24/7 access, free breakfast, and a sink in the room
Building and facilities needs some maintenance. Noisy taps, tv signal didn't work, doors were stiff.

Really spacious, clean and well presented, not too far to the city centre but further enough out that it was quiet
