Wow! what an awesome establishment! The staff are friendly, polite and helpful. We scored the studio in the back and it was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The communal areas in the main house is clean with the colourful local and pasifika art decorating the walls, good comfy furniture's. The balcony out back was relaxing and theres plenty of seating areas in and around outside. Enjoyed meeting the other guests during the breakfast session. There are hot and intercontinental breakfast choices. For sure everyone's food needs are well catered for. Location is great with shops, cafes and eateries only a few mins walk away. Totally recommend.

The room was lovely - spacious, clean, comfortable, well-equipped, and homely. We only had a one night stay but it felt like a wonderful little getaway and we will definitely return (we're Auckland locals and it was a chance to have a small break from our two toddlers!). Great location off Ponsonby Road, plenty of awesome restaurants nearby, either a short stroll or cheap uber away! Quality toiletries and bedding, nice coffee! Appreciated the early check in and late check out offered, it makes a huge difference on a short stay! Extremely kind staff, yummy cooked breakfast, felt very safe, quirky and funky property. The welcome drink was such a nice little touch. Lots of street parking. So much character, wish we could stay once a month! Such a huge treat for us as busy working parents with rare opportunities for a getaway. Thanks, all, we loved it! So glad we stayed here and not at some boring apartment in the CBD. Ponsonby is fab as is this place.

It was great all round. Forgot to mention to the team when we left that the shower head was a little loose and sliding down a little, but that will be fixed in no time as soon as this is seen (and wasn't a major). We highly recommend The Great Ponsonby Arthotel and can't wait to return!!

The Great Ponsonby Arthotel exceeded our expectations. The location is unbeatable - very quiet but still close to all the restaurants/bars on Ponsonby Road. Rooms were decent and clean. The property is actually better in real life - cute little artwork and decor without being too cluttered. The breakfast was delicious and well priced - homemade banana bread and poached fruit so yummy! The service from the staff was so amazing, really made it feel ‘home away from home’. Thank you to Sophie, Tong, Soloi and Patrick! Mum and I had a great stay and would definitely come back again!

We absolutely loved staying in the Ponsonby area of Auckland and this hotel sums up the charm of the area. It’s public spaces are full of interesting art and furniture and it has a homely and welcoming feel. The staff are friendly and the breakfasts are freshly cooked in the kitchen area adjoining the dining room, and are delicious.

As befitting a property of such an age the bedrooms are ‘cosy’ and there was a little noise from neighbouring rooms/ plumbing (we were downstairs, near the front door). There was a musty smell to the bedroom that may be alleviated by replacing pillows and washing the additional blankets etc.

Location was great. Peaceful and quiet. Ponsonby Rd with cafes and restaurants was at top of the street. Room was quite big with very comfortable bed. Everything provided: hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, etc. Not the usual hotel selection but ecostore brand which was nice. Desk, lamp, ironing board. The hosts were really pleasant and very helpful, especially when I was trying to jam stuff into the fridge.

The tray of tea and coffee was at head height on top of a shelf for some reason. Floor creaked badly at entrance to bathroom.

It was very cozy, had a home-like feeling. The room upstairs was quiet, spacious and clean. Welcoming drink was a nice touch, staff was great and the brekkie delicious. Would definitely recommend! Located in a hipsterish area with a lot of restaurants and bars and cute shops. The hotel is in a quiet street so the noice from the main-street didn’t bother at all.

The laundry service was a bit too expensive (20$ for not much clothes). The shower in the room is too low for people over 165cm. The hotel is quite worn-out (although very clean!).

This is a lovely hotel. Beautiful style, pretty, quiet location, lovely staff, good breakfast continental and cooked, and good sized room. I stayed in the green villa and I loved it. Warm, quiet, with a little kitchen and comfy bed. Loved the addition of books and the sitting room in the hotel. I would definitely come stay again. Ponsonby is a nice area.

This is a homey experience, more like a B&B than a hotel. It's a converted villa and the staff greeted us at the front door like friends. Decor is quirky and South Pacific themed; the beds very cushiony and lush. Complimentary drinks (beer, wine or soft drink) are a nice touch. We appreciated the onsite parking and the location; it was very quiet despite being only minutes away from the buzz of Ponsonby Road.

It depends on which room you get; the bathroom in the one next to ours was right next to our heads - so intrusive.

Ended up staying here twice when we got stuck in Auckland and had a wonderful time. The staff (Jackie especially!) were really welcoming and always made our day. Breakfast was delicious, and the rooms/cabins were very comfy. Great facilities too, with a kitchen, free drinks on arrival, free toiletries, and Sky on the TV. A really cool atmosphere, almost like a 70s beach house—you could easily forget you’re in a popular part of the city, with loads of shops, restaurants and cafés literally just around the corner. This will absolutely be where we go the next time we stay the night in Auckland. Thank you for such a lovely stay!

Good location handy to transport and restaurants/cafes. Staff really helpful and managed some of the noise from workman well. I like the lounge area and the ability to wait there until needed to leave. Excellent place and stayed several times.

Minor thing was noise from refurbishment of property however this was only for a short time and the manager was really helpful with this. After that all good.
