The place is retro but in a old school cool kinda way. The staff are so helpful ans welcoming. Room was big enough to walk around the bed which was very comfortable with extra pillows and blankets. The location is also perfect just a very short walk from the octagon.

There is no heating in the room however there is an electric blanket. It's really noisy both for people walking the corridors and the cars outside but earplugs would have fixed that. Main thing I didn't like is there is no cloths storage space. 1 hook on the back of the door so I used the chair as a cloths horse.

Location was very close to the sports venue. Room was adequate, we put the top bunk mattress on the floor for my other daughter as she was confident that the bed would be ok up on the top bunk. It worked better for her having this on the floor. The free parking across the road was excellent. Loved that they had a separate kitchen for us to use so we didnt need to go out and have dinner elsewhere. The room service each day was so welcomed and appreciated. The staff very helpful.

The kitchen facilities had little to no cutlery, otherwise everything else was pretty good in there.

The location is great and the free parking is much appreciated. You can walk to the centre of town very easily from the hotel. The building itself has so much character and is fun to explore, I especially liked the ceiling of the breakfast room and also the photos on the walls. There is a lovely lounge at the "pointy" end of the building. My room had a nice view and a very comfortable bed.

The room was quite small and there weren't a lot of places to put your clothes, but for a short stay that wasn't a big issue for me.

The Leviathan Hotel is associated with the history of men who love men in Dunedin; that was my main reason for staying; to associate with part of our history. It was beautiful inside, and really felt like stepping into the past; I could imagine coming in off the train with my suitcase and lugging it up the stairs (they have an elevator, now, too). The have breakfast provided on the ground floor, which is communal, and they have a gorgeous old-style common space on the first storey in the front angle. Would love to stay there again, especially as I missed out on breakfast because I had to attend hospital! Also, free spacious parking is SUCH a blessing in Dunedin, where you can walk or bus most places.

Some mild light pollution coming through curtains in my room (Leviathan is between two main roads); if a light sleeper, consider a face mask.

Excellent location right next door to train station & the Toitu Settler's Museum, easy walking distance to main food streets. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and decent sized. There is a laundry & small kitchen (not used on this stay)

Protip: this is an old building next to the main road - if you have trouble with noise and sleeping, this could be an issue as road traffic noise is quite easily heard even with windows shut. Fortunately, Dunedin isn't prone to traffic jams!

The location was fantastic, the room was basic but had everything we needed. If we stay again we will request a room away from busy street side. The shower pressure was fantastic and very welcoming after a busy day traveling.

The parking on a very busy corner could be a safety concern for families with young children and the lift closed too quickly although they did have warnings on wall where the lift was.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the bed was very comfortable. Excellent central location, with plenty of parking available when we stayed on a busy weekend. Super easy check in & out, with 24/hr staff on desk. Close to the train station if you don't have a car. Has everything you need for a short stay or if you're not planning on spending much time in your accomodation.

The shower was basically hot or cold - difficult to get a comfortable temperature. Fine for us for 1 night, might get annoying for an extended stay.

An amazing historical hotel full of history if you take the time to browse. Beautiful courtyard, old school kiwi bar, chandeliers, clean rooms and friendly staff. Thee best location and very affordable !!! I stayed for 2 nights and loved it. Felt very safe and cozy. Small room with small bathroom with great shower, lots of hot water and great water pressure. 3 beds, like a hostel but better and more affordable. Absolute loved it, walked everywhere.

Very handy to train station and great location to the shopping centre and new world plus countdown

The only thing we didn’t like for only one night was young guys having a party which they aren’t meant to be and climbing out the window onto the fire escape outside our window Plus they hit our door Didn’t like to turn light on to ring the hotel and tell them But I did hear they were spoken to We stayed 5 nights

Not top of the range but a lovely, clean place to layout heads. The history of the place was fascinating and the period features added to the charm.

It was all adequate albeit a bit dated but that is also part of the charm. The creaky floors and musty smell.
