This place is spotlessly clean, homely and the staff are amazingly helpful and don’t mind spending time answering questions about what to do in the surrounding area. It has good facilities, washing and drying machines, communal kitchen and nice dining area. The Lodge used to be hospital so lots of rooms and wooden floor corridors. Quiet location with hens wandering outside. You can buy their eggs - I love this place as have been before. It’s peaceful and friendly clean and tidy and you feel the owner goes the extra mile with a smile.

Nothing to complain about

Really loved the games room and dining areas and my boys (6yrs and 12yrs) enjoyed being able to scooter up and down the hallways. Quiet location, nice and central to a lot of walks and beaches. Great staff, well equipped kitchen and showers were great!! Comfy beds. Sufficient bedding

If there was one downside, it was that hot water is only available at set times in the morning (6:30am-10am)and afternoon (6:30pm-10pm)…but it didn’t effect us at all as we were out and about most of the day.

Friendly owner. Definitely worth staying at least 3 days - it’s a great base for checking out all of The Catlins attractions. We stayed in a Double room with private bathroom & TV. It had tea/coffee making facilities plus a fridge and TV Lounge close by. We were happy to self-cater. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs.

The bed was smaller than we’re used to but it was ok.

Location most suitable as a base to explore the northern end of the Catlins. Liked that there were multiple options of room configurations including dorm rooms, double rooms and 2 bedroom cottage. Liked that a cot was available for a baby and rollaway bed for extra person. Jan was most helpful in sorting accommodation for our group of 18 people. The pool table served as a helpful activity and the little lounge and sun rooms were relaxing, quiet spaces.

Amazing old building - loved the atmosphere. Rural and quiet but in the small township of Owaka with everything you need. Staff were very helpful, giving me info on the nearby Caves. Great guest kitchen and dining room. Room small but had everything. Loved the games room and the tea and coffee nook at the end of the hallway. Place looked very clean and tidy, considering some of the earlier reviews. We were very happy and would come again.

We were booked in a three person room, with ensuite. We were offered the cottage for a reasonable $20 extra per night. It was cozy, clean, spacious and stylish in it's presentation. We were wrapt. Staff were friendly and our stay was so much better than our original booking.

Very friendly staff with useful tips over the area and not only! The lodge, having been a hospital before, is quite big and has great lounge areas with some vintage pieces that definitely add to it. The kitchen was also spacious and fully equipped. Overall a very special place!

Sewage smell from the toilet was a problem in our room. The room itself, bed sheets and towels were clean though!

It was lovely to stay in this quaint old building. My single room was very comfortable. Good kitchen area as well as seating in the conservatory. Jan the owner was welcoming and went the extra mile to help guests. An ideal spot from which to explore the Catlin's..

Everything was fine

I was worried at first and not expecting much when I checked the reviews but I booked a bed anyway. However once I got there I ended up extending my stay. I was in a 4 bed room and it was very comfortable. People working there are kind and helpful. The kitchen is well equiped and it is a good location to explore the catlins

Lovely grounds with several accommodation types & private outdoor seating options, super friendly and helpful owners, good shared kitchen & bathroom facilities, gorgeous setting with plenty of beaches and walks to be had. Curious, friendly chickens! Very peaceful.
