The location of this hotel was fantastic with beautiful views from the terrace and many of the rooms. The staff was pleasant and breakfast was good. There are a few hikes that can be done right from the property but it is also a good jumping off spot for day trips.

This hotel could use a little updating. Also, the price point seems a bit high for the condition of the hotel/amenities but you are paying for the view/location. This is a stop for several tour buses. The buses take up most of the parking lot (we were lucky to squeeze into the last spot each day) and depending on the day/timing there may be a large group of people milling around.

Such a beautiful place with fascinating mountains views. A true historical hotel with the museum in the building, old fashioned facilities. The feeling you are a traveler of the past century. Restaurant-grade breakfasts. Calm place (in the evening).

Low soundproof (you will definitelly hear your neighbours), small rooms, almost not equiped (literally the only electrical thing you will have is the lamp). Can be loud in the morning (im guessing only in high season) because of many touristic groups who are checking out early, all at once, clattering suitcases to the sound of bus engines parked under the windows. But. It's all worth the experience and those breathtaking views. Just be prepared that this is not an ordinary hotel.

As we were driving up the drive i knew this would be such an exceptional place to stay! Our room was so quaint and the view was amazing!! We ate in the restaurant, i had the smorgasbord and my husband had the pasta with salmon, so delicious. When we woke up i immediately jumped out of bed o went outsiders to take pictures. The little sheep bells and the adventure i had the morning taking pictures was breathtaking and i will never forget it. I felt like a child exploring! And the breakfast was exceptional too! What lovely memories were made at the Stalheim lodge!

Stalheim have been welcoming travellers for almost 400 years, as a hotel for 130 years & in its present offering for 63 years. Towards the end of the 1980’s Conde Nast Magazine rated it one of the Top 12 destinations in the World; it still is. Step inside its doors and enter a world I thought once lost. Sit with a coffee, pause, let the ‘Stalheim’ wrap its arms around you, enfold you. Relax and breathe with its rhythm. You have come HOME. If you seek perfection in material things, move on. This is not the George V. The Stalheim Hotel offers far greater quality. Timeless. Little thing matter. Feel the quality of the weighted cord on the bedside light! Ignore the occasional chip in the enamel bath. This is a proper bath. You step into it and your back is perfectly supported unlike so many modern offerings. I read 384 pages last night. The best bathing for 20 years. Like all the truly Great Hotels their real assets are their staff. A blend of generations to ensure the ethos is maintained. It is in safe hands. Whether mixing a cocktail, preparing the bedroom for your arrival or Alex on the front desk to welcome you out of the rain, whilst organising an afternoon tea for 40 off a coach tour. It is as seamless as a Swan on the water. My life has been enriched by staying just one night of my Norwegian adventure in the ‘Stalheim’. In case I had not mentioned it; the view down the Naeroy Valley is to die for …

The Stalheim Hotel is in an exceptionally beautiful location, hign the hills in fjord country. Our room had a stunningly good view up the valley and was clean and perfect for us. The meals were exceptionally good, both breakfast and dinner. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Hiking in the area is delightful. The historical maps, furniture and artifacts in the common area are quite interesting. This is a wonderful place to stay or to have a destination event like a wedding.

The view was just breathtaking. Probably the best one in the whole Norway trip. I think we made 400 pictures just of the view. Just when we came, there was a rainbow and it made everything even more surreal. The breakfast was very good and the room was very spacious. Our room was towards the mountains and the waterfalls so we were just absolutely amazed.

It was a bit high price but when you drink coffee with the view they have... you just don't care about how much you paid anymore. :) The bed was a bit too soft and the staff was very "closed". But it was a high end hotel so for people who are looking for something super professional, it is perfect.

The hotel has a homey "bed and breakfast" feel. The location was just phenomenal and gorgeous. The outdoor patio has such easy access to amazing views. If you love hiking, there are so many great hills from the parking lot alone! The hotel has a lot of history and culture to it, and you can easily discover this in the lobby. The staff was also very nice.

The rooms were fine and clean, but the facilities are slightly older. The walls are also a little bit thinner, so noise from other hotel guests might pose an issue, but it was honestly fine when we were there!

Best view I've ever had from my room window! That was true when it was sunny there and when it was cloudy. I liked the fact that staff paid attention to my request for a quiet (at night) room. We also had plenty of space in our room. Breakfast was good with lots of choices. The buffet dinner was good, but not as good as I expected for the price. The desserts, in particular, could be a lot better, though the caramel apple pie and little cream puffs are very good. We had the buffet twice. (It is apparently possible to order from a limited menu instead.) Our shower had good pressure and a steady temperature (once it got hot enough). Though the shower is in a tub, I did not find it very slippery. There are several lounge areas in the hotel, some with very interesting decor from years ago. There is also an "outdoor museum." Be sure to walk around those historic buildings, even if you can't get on a tour. The minimum number for a tour is usually ten. (I don't know if the tours cost some money, or not, but I suspect they do.) Staff were very nice and helpful.

The curtains could be improved. They let in too much light on those long summer nights. They need proper "blackout" curtains. My bed was too hard for me. I fixed that somewhat by removing the duvet from its cover and placing the duvet under the pad on the bed. Then I just used the duvet cover as a blanket (the room was warm enough). The access road to the hotel is mostly very narrow. We were afraid of meeting a tour bus going up or down. Some bus passengers stay overnight, while others are transported there to see the view during the daytime. We would always ask at the front desk when the busses were expected, though sometimes there can be surprise ones.

Views tremendous! Walk down the twisty road and back so beautiful and fun. Live free music performance on Saturday was phenomenal. Buffet dinner outstanding! Gift shop well stocked. Lots of places to sit in the evening and enjoy the scenery.

Beds too soft. Wish the window in the room opened out more as it was warm for sleeping. Shower got scalding hot while adjusting. Lighting in the room could be updated. Still using incandescent bulbs which get hot and use more energy.

We were a mixed group of 7 friends, Norwegian and American, men and women. All of us greatly enjoyed both dinner and breakfast, but the view is the big attraction at Stalheim. It is unparallelled! My 5th time there and it never ceases to impress. Loved that the place is so social. Someone was playing the piano in the lounge and other strangers were chatting while admiring the view. THAT is good ambience. Also very nice that coffee, tea and other beverages are available any time, and the lounge and outdoor area were great places for socializing.

I wish we could have seen the museum, but the requirement was for a group of 10, so there weren't enough of us. I've seen it before and it is very worthwhile.
