We had a room with big windows overlooking the fjord as well as a balcony. The rooms are spare, but completely adequate. And, we had a good shower which we appreciated. It had a string to hang a few hand-washed items, again, very appreciated. Breakfast was simple - croissants and coffee/tea. But, we didn't even expect that, so it was a welcome bonus. The hotel is walking distance from the ferry, the little town and to a lovely stroll by some artist colony villas which were exquisite. Everyone we met at the hotel was happy to be there. And, we got terrific tips about the history of the area and for places to visit from the staff.
We liked it all, but it is not for those who seek luxury. This is a simple, straightforward, comfortable hotel run by a family that cares about its customers.

Great view on the fjord and you can go swimming right in front of the hotel. Many interesting hikes accessible by foot. We did Raudmelen but the weather was not good to do Keipen as well. There is a nice common area and staff is really helpful, offering to keep your things in the fridge and preparing hot water if you want to make a simple dinner.
Croissants and coffee in the morning were included in the price, but it only really worked on our first day. On the second day we waited 30min to get the food, and simply left to not start our hike too late. On the third day we showed up shortly after 7am and things were not ready, and then the croissant came heavily undercooked. Only a small issue, but please either be diligent or don't make the offer at all, because people may rely on breakfast if it is promised :) The common area has quite loud music in the evening, kind of flexing people out on the terrace.

Thanks to our discussion with our host we realized this place was cute and funky. Lots or original art work on the walls everywhere. This appears to be a terrific spot for younger people to stay, especially if they are into music. Our experience was quiet but we learned there had been a big music concert there in the week before our visit which explained why there were packages of ear plugs available n the bathroom. There is no dining room here but they have an arrangement with what appeared to be the best hotel in town where we could go for meals at a discounted rate. The food and service there was excellent.

The view, the facilities and the outdoor seating. The staff were exceedingly helpful, pleasant and showed interest in our comfort and our experience. They were among the most personable and caring that we've ever encountered.they treated us like valued guests. The deck off of our room was delighltful. The morning coffee in the main sitting area was like a dream; quiet early in the morning with a view of the fjord, with coffee and croissants. The hosts were memorable and even helped us with food recommendations and provided input to review our route north.
What's not to like? All good.

We must admit we were a little worried about this hotel after having read some of the reviews, but we were extremely impressed with our stay. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The shower room was simple, but it was perfectly clean and there was always plenty of hot water. The big " plus" for the hotel was the whole atmosphere the owners and staff have created - friendly and welcoming. The entrance , lounge and dining areas are stripped back and simple but it all works well. Breakfast service was a surprise ( as we thought there was no breakfast) - coffee and fresh, warm croissants - and one of the best views down the Fjord in Balestrand - what's not to like?

Unbelievably gorgeous view from the balcony of our room, and wonderfully quiet and peaceful town! I had no idea that I’d love this part of our trip so much. The hotel rooms with a view of the fjord are well worth it. Also, very clean, comfy beds, nice lobby and shared space with an outdoor area and spectacular view. The breakfast is at a nearby beautiful historic hotel for an extra charge, or coffee and fresh croissants offered free at this hotel. We did both due to different daytime activities and enjoyed both. The staff are helpful and engaging. Wish it were closer to my home!!

Amazing place! If you are looking for a 5-star hotel with all facilities, please do not book here. However, if you simply want a good place to sleep, a bar with excellent vibes and welcoming staff, this is the place to be! Sandra is an excellent host who is very welcoming and helpful to all guests. Although it was mentioned that there was no breakfast provided, she suprised us with complimentary croissants and coffee. Combine that with a wonderful view of the fjord and good weather and you have an experience that many 5* hotels can only dream of. Nice bar with local ciders, pool table and musical atmosphere.
Rooms might need a little refreshning. Might be a noisy with the terrace of the bar located right underneath the rooms.

Staff: Very friendly and helpful. We felt that we made new friends with the youthful team. Pool table: Fun to hang out in the evening and play Location, location, location. Beautiful view right outside your window with a small balcony for reading. Jumping into the fjord from the stone steps in front of the property. Simply beautiful view while floating on my back. There is also a sauna that can be rented through a separate company via a website. Bring a good book and be prepared to slow down and breathe.
The curtains on the fjord facing room did not black out the morning sun. I needed a bit more rest. This is only an issue if you want to “sleep in”.

Perfect large room overlooking the fjord. Very good value for money - the hotel is basic but really comfortable, spotlessly clean and the staff are lovely. We had the subsidised breakfast at the Kviknes hotel on one day, which was excellent, and the delicioius fresh croissants and coffee/tea provided free by the Balestrand hotel on the other day. The hotel is very well positioned near the boats and has a lovely garden.

Nice hotel, very friendly staff, and the location is wonderful. In particular, the view from our room was unbeatable. We had a car and there was never a problem with parking. And Balestrand is a very nice place to spend a day or two.
The free breakfast really is just coffee and pastry, although they hadn't seemed to order enough pastries. We didn't choose to do the optional buffet breakfast at the Kviknes Hotel.
