The warm hospitality and delicious Japanese breakfast (a must-have if you are there). The father went to pluck mushrooms the day earlier and we had them for breakfast the next morning! The room is simple but clean, and the hot spring is well maintained. I like the stream besides the ryokan too, very relaxing. Thanks for making us feel so welcomed and loved!
Less easily accessible to city centre / train station although they provide free rental of bicycles and the buses have regular timings. Do get the power bikes (500 Yen) if you are planning to go to the city alps due to the slopes, but normal bikes are fine if just cycling to the city Center

The family who own and run the ryokan are delightful - welcoming and very helpful. I stayed here 15 years ago and they continue to run an exceptional traditional-style inn, if anything it has improved over the years. The updated onsen is a lovely feature. The breakfasts are delicious. Relatively easy walking distance to the “National Treasure” which is the castle of Matsumoto-Jo and to the superb modern art museum; easy bus ride to/from the rail station.
Travelling with young children made not having an en suite bathroom less easy but we were well-aware of that when booking and it’s an authentic feature of this type of property.

This was a wonderful family run Ryokan. The staff were very warm and kind, gave good recommendations and offered bicycle rental to better navigate the city. The room was clean, comfy and welcoming. The public bath was excellent, designed very nicely and you can feel the good qualities of the bath. After checkout they even gave their visitors a lift to matsumoto station ! To summarize, best service quality and overall kindness that I've received in any hotel I've been to (Japan or elsewhere), facilities are clean and the room is cozy.
The fact that the public bath & shower are closed after 11pm was a bit of a close call for me since there are no alternatives for taking a shower and I spent the evening in a different part of town..

The stay was great, we have stayed only one night ... unfortunetely it was not possible to extend due to our tight schedule, the staff is super friendly and help us with everything we needed. The ryokan is exceptional, we had a private one as there were no other guest at that time and trust me, you do not know you want to have ryokan in your accomodation until you have experienced it. Having the option to chill in the bath after long hiking day is priceless. Ps.: the location is not close to the citycentre but you can get there easily .. we took bus 120 from main bus station.

The owner was very helpful. She recommended us a lot of things to do and organized a pushchair for our child during our stay. She also reserved the onsen every day for 30 minutes for us so that we could have private onsen as family together. The ramen restaurant next to the ryokan is really good and the breakfast she offered is good and very large. It is a little bit outside of town but it was ok, if you check bus times its only 15 minutes but the bus is not going very often. But there are also some nice places in this area. We enjoyed it very much.
It is a little bit outside of town, the bus is not going very often. But if you check time table its ok, because you need only 10-20 minutes by bus. But there are also some nice places in this area. We visited the university and the children liked the river.

We had a wonderful stay in Ryokan Seifuso. The Ryokan is run by a very friendly family. The location is nice, next to a river and very quiet. A bus stop is just around the corner, which is very convenient. We loved the breakfast (both Japanese and Western), the spa and the very cozy atmosphere of the Ryokan. We loved using the bikes and biking across rice fields to Azumino. We loved everything and had a wonderful time. Matsumoto is a very cozy and peaceful city.
Absolutely nothing.

We loved staying at this place. It is family run and you feel right at home the moment you arrive The service was excellent - very personal - and it has everything you require for a comfortable stay. The breakfast that was served was exceptional, and delivered with such attention and care. There was alot of space for use outside your room, including access to the onsen facilities. The extra touches - including a ride to the train station - made the whole experience wonderful.
Nothing. We enjoyed everything about our stay.

Extremely friendly and helpful host family! They gave so many great recommendations for the area. The property was spotless, and the onsen was available to book for private use for 30mins, which was great. Free use of bikes and umbrellas was much appreciated during our stay. Free parking on site also, which was hard to find in the area at other accommodations.
It was a little further out of town, but everything can be reached easily on the bikes provided in 10-15mins.

The room was one of the most comfortable ones we stayed at this trip (3 weeks) and the hosts are so friendly! It's a family run ryokan and one can really feel at home here. We got many tips for exploring Matsumoto and the tickets for the castle with them and rented bikes from the hotel to explore around town. Their brekkie is delicious and Atsuko was super friendly and took us to the station when we checked out. Thank you so much for the lovely stay!

I spent my last night in Japan there at Seifuso during a week long ski trip with my 12-year old daughter. The owner family put much of their worries about highway closure and snowy conditions to Nagoya Airport from Mastumoto and tried to assist us with everything I can. My rental car was not equipped with the winter tires at the moment. Even though I did not much worry myself because I was quite used to driving even on the worst snowy and icy conditions around world, I really appreciated their personal cares and hearts. That was something you could hardly experience anywhere in the world nowadays.
