The hotel at the bottom was beyond expectation considering the simple plain view at the top! Hahaha...the view from the hotel room - spectacular! sea front awesome, the caves, exploring the rocky beach....it was an awesome experience. Will definitely come back again.
The tv settings in room 9 need to be fixed to English, dusty iron, and cobwebs in corners. Breakfast options need to revised, continental breakfast needs to be re-thought and maybe go for an English breakfast? We had to constantly ask for cutlery, cups, and plates as there weren't enough for the people present. The white bread had mould and the staff member on duty didn't know where some of the stuff was stored in.

Absolutely, everything about this hotel was amazing. Scenery was stunning, and even the dolphins put on a show for us. Would definitely recommend. There were two ladies, both morning that we were there that were lovely. They are very hard workers and hope they are appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble, a real asset to the hotel. The food was also amazing.
If you get back after 22.00 the lift is closed, so you have to walk down over 130 steps, more lights would be good. Just glad I didn't have to walk up them😁 The bedroom was a bit on the small side, but the views we woke up to more than made up for it.

The setting …. I’ve been visiting the grotto for almost 50 years and remember when the rock had 2 parts I love the interior of the grotto ( I do think the exterior could do with a little love and care )
We stayed in room 1 Salty Kisses which we will definitely stay in again as it was my style to perfection …. Only thing that bothered me was the constant noise of doors banging … don’t know if it was coming from along the corridor or from underneath the spiral staircase and maybe was coming from the toilet doors ( maybe some soft closing hinges would solve this )

The location is exceptional. Staff very friendly. Breakfast was included - pastries, jams, juices and toast. we were aware that there was no full English breakfast on site so we weren’t expecting anything. the continental style breakfast was more than sufficient and nicely laid out in the morning. We ate in the restaurant on both Friday and Saturday and the food was very good. The bar/food was very busy in the day with beach visitors.
We were in room 10. Our bed was comfy, nice clean sheets. Towels supplied, plenty of tea, coffee etc. The en-suite bathroom is very small but was adequate for the duration of our stay. It took 10 minutes for the water to run hot so be patient. I be suppose my only point would be that the cleanliness of the room could have been a bit better. I asked staff to mop the floor which they did happily. There are parts of the place that feel a bit run down and maybe could do with a bit of tlc. In our opinion this would make the property a 9/10. As it stands we have rated this stay an 8.

Lovely quirky hotel, clean and comfortable. A small light breakfast was available with coffee/tea and juices. Great sea view from our room. Staff very friendly and welcoming. We didn’t eat in the restaurant, however it did look lovely.
No signal or WiFi, which wasn’t an issue for us, I would imagine it would be for some people. Only thing really we were disappointed in, was the noise the cleaner made at around 7am banging

Staff and the meal were absolutely amazing and the view was to die for as was the food. The food was served quickly and with a smile . The staff worked extremely hard. Throughout our stay and tips were well deserved
Not what was shown in the photos , we paid 270 on booking com for a cave room with a roll top bath both shown in the photos and in special requests we put birthday banners in room .we received a room with no cave walls and a shower not a bath ( our new house has no bath tub so this was a selling point for the hotel for me ) after the initial disappointment staff were amazing so saved the evening due to their hard work and happy attitude. Only recommendation is take your own mugs and tea coffe sugar and milk. The lift and bar closes at 10 pm and reopens at 10 am so can run out of the sachets fast.

Stayed with hubby and another couple, from pulling up in the car park you can’t help but love the place.Wow what a setting. We were welcomed by the manager, who was very informative, helpful, friendly and a genuine lovely person. We checked into our room , it was very clean and modern and it had the best ever view of the beach and the sea. We booked a table for dinner where we ordered fish and chips, they were gorgeous. We were looked after by all the staff so well, and can’t remember ever being treated like this before. I honestly can’t rate this place enough. We will definitely be back.
We loved everything. The was no internet in the hotel which some people may not like, but I thought I was great that we didn’t have the option to stare at phones all night

The location is unique and beautiful. It is right on the beach and the childden loved it. The Grottos beach is rocky but has some rock pool and the beaches at South Sheilds and Seaburn are lovely. We luckily had a glimpse of dolphins. The view from my window was amazing. The restaurant is very good and we all enjoyed the food. Breakfast was just toast and cereal wirh lovely muffins and my son would have loved a cooked breakfast bht I was still fulk fro.m prevuous dinner so it was fine. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We would love to return and we were sad to leave.
We had a lovely stay and would go back so are not really bothered about the following points. Room 4 was very hot and needs a fan. The decor in room 9 was a giraffe on the wall and monkey lamps which I found bizarre in a sea location. The decor was not to my taste.

Location great and accommodation good and very clean. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic like at home but fresh. We booked a room with a sea view which was incredible. However, the seagulls were very load at daybreak. Probably not a problem if in a room with no sea-view. I had a walk on the beach as up early due to this- the staff let me in 25mins for breakfast!! We also had dinner at the restaurant in the cave room and had a great dinner and service.
Probably could change to a Coffee pod machine instead of filter coffee as after a while the coffee became bitter - so we switched to tea instead

Great location on the wild North Sea coast. Our room was gorgeous with 180° views of the ocean and cliffs. We had a lovely meal downstairs in the ‘cave’ restaurant, meeting a lovely young man serving, who’d been to Australia recently. we enjoyed a blustery walk along the beach and cliff top before leaving! This was a highlight of our 4 week trip to England/UK!
The entry was a little off putting when we pulled up…but I’m sure a little refurb in the future is probably being planned.
