We arrived really late, so Paul was on hand to provide a code to access the front door and our key to the room was waiting for us. The breakfast was really good and great value for money. Choice of bagels with bacon or sausage and a fried egg, eggs benedict and other choices as well as toast and some fruit and cakes. The facility is clean and well presented and the hosts, Paul & Lee are really accommodating and go out of their way to help.
The only points we were not so keen on, the bed was a double, rather than a king, which there was ample size to accommodate one. I am sure there is a reason. Secondly the bathroom was snug, but clean and functional.

What a great place to stay, I'm so glad I booked a room at the Metropolitan. Everything was spot on, from the reassuring communication prior to my stay (due to transport I knew I would be checking in a bit late), to the impeccable style, cosy but cool. The bed was comfortable, and the bottle of water in the room alongside the usual tea and coffee facilities was really appreciated. Breakfast was perfect, made to order and the coffee was superb. I also really appreciated that our host was warm and welcoming but discreet and never intrusive or in your face, as can sometimes be the case at guest houses and B&Bs. The balance was just right. I also had a view of the sea and the stars from my lovely single room. And the price was extremely bargainous. Recommended.

Breakfasts were absolutely lovely with a really good choice and so well cooked and presented. The room was superb with every facility you could want even down to a shoe shine, clothes brush, cotton buds to a pack of cards! Along with all the usual facilities tv, hairdryer, toiletries etc. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and warm. The rooms are decorated to a high standard and nice and modern and welcoming. Paul the host was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for him. The location is perfect. Close to centre and close to the sea front. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone and I would always choose this hotel as my first choice.
Absolutely nothing. Everything was perfect

The Metropolitan Guest House is an asset to Whitley Bay. I know the area well as an ex-resident. I have stayed in a few 'chain' hotels since leaving a year ago but nothing matched my residential experience of this coastline. However this B&B and owner Paul exceeded my expectations and I felt like I was back 'home'. It was also like re-visiting the 'good old days' of hospitality when customer service meant so much more than a feedback form. I don't normally eat breakfast but I did on this occasion - perfect poached eggs on avocado toast. The Metropolitan will be my first choice when I am back in the area.
Nothing. Was worried about finding parking but that was totally fine.

Very friendly host who locked up our bikes overnight in his lounge. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. A lovely breakfast was provided in the morning. The guest house was just a few yards off our Coast and Castle cycle route, so very handy. It was also very close to the beach so handy for a swim too!
We were travelling as a group of six ladies and the room combinations for us could have been better. i.e, we would have preferred 3 twins, which would probably have made the total cost of the stay a little cheaper. We were here in the August Bank Holiday week, so there really wasn't much accommodation available locally even though I booked in March. Having said that, all the rooms were lovely and comfortable and everything else about the stay was just great so we were glad we stayed here!

The property is only a few yards from the sea. A range of tasty breakfast muffins, including a vegetarian choice, were expertly cooked, very tasty and served in a lovely dining room, which also offered a choice of ‘Continental’ options. Much care and thought had obviously been put into the design and amenities of the well-appointed, light and airy rooms, which lacked nothing we needed. The hosts were very friendly, made you feel like you were coming home and Paul was an invaluable source of knowledge and tips for a couple who are ‘innocents abroad’ and not particularly good at research or planning! We had a delightful stay with hosts who had clearly tried to look at everything from their guests’ perspective - and succeeded!
Nothing.

Paul was the excellent host that all visitors to the Metropolitan Guest House Whitley Bay will doubtless experience and enjoy. Breakfast: My wife and I enjoyed a lovely breakfast, a good choice of cereal, fruit juice, Tea or coffee, Toast and marmalade. Different selections of Hot breakfasts to choose from. Service was excellent, couldn't have given given better. Room: All rooms were kept spotlessly clean, the bedroom and breakfast room. The hygene was second to none.
Nothing we didn't like. The highest standards were obviously the daily norm

The location is amazing. Just a few minutes to the beach or town. Beautiful sea view over the rooftops. Host was amazing. Breakfast was fabulous and just what I needed! Bed was very comfortable and room was spotless! Can't recommend this place enough.
I would have moved the bed the other way around so you could sit in the bed and enjoy the view. The pillows were a bit lumpy. Parking can be tricky if street is busy. But these are such minor points. The room I had was at the top of the house so seagulls tap dancing on the roof was entertaining in the morning. Totally didn't bother me though.

Had an excellent stay at the Metropolitan Guest House. Paul is an excellent host and made us feel really welcome during our stay. The property is extremely clean and has been decorated with a great deal of care. The beds were really comfortable and the property is very quiet despite being only minutes from the town centre and the Metro stop. Each room contains a folder with useful information on local restaurants and places of interest. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. I would definitely stay at this Guest House again.
