We absolutely loved it. The history was fascinating. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The room was very cosy, and the bed extremely comfortable and big! We both had a great nights sleep. We had dinner on the Friday, on arrival, and were informed it was busy and wouldn't be served straight away but that was no problem for us, and when the food did arrive it was exceptional. Breakfast was also delicious. A little quiet in the breakfast room, and some background music could have been good to break the quiet between tables and guests.
The bathroom was clean and presentable, however it had been fairly modernised and was lacking the charm that the rest of the building held. Hopefully this can improved over time and a fairly insignificant issue.

What a wonderful find. We decided to book an overnight stay here to break our journey on the way down to Cornwall, we certainly weren't disappointed. Parking was easy right outside the door. After a very warm welcome at check in we were shown to our lovely spacious room. We enjoyed a relaxed drink in the bar before enjoying an absolutely delicious meal followed by a nightcap and some friendly conversation in the bar area. There is so much character in this charming place, it has a very interesting history and the surrounding countryside is just lovely. Sadly, we had to leave after breakfast, which was delicious with plenty of choice, to carry on our journey. We did take some time to visit Lydford Gorge, don't miss it if you're in the area, it's a beautiful walk and the waterfalls are amazing. We would highly recommend staying here if ever you get the chance to do so.
Nothing not to like, we had an excellent experience during our stay heere.

The location was perfect for what we needed for 1 night. The breakfast was lovely he couple that run the hotel. The gentleman that received us when we arrived was lovely very welcoming and showed us to our room which I have to say was lovely, and the hotel itself was just lovely. Good menu and wine and the food was delicious
The lady that run the hotel with her husband was quite rude and abrupt. My friends phone went off and she remarked we don't have use of phones in here and asked her to go outside which she did promptly. It would have been much better if they had a notice displaying this requirement. We met a nice couple and we were chatting to them and she kept asking us to be quiet as we would wake her guests. We are in our sixties and really felt uncomfortable as we are not rowdy people, we were just having a nice chat with some nice people

We travelled for a family wedding and stayed an extra night, we had a wonderful time at the Oxenham Arms, the breakfasts are fabulous and we enjoyed our very special meal in the wonderfully historic dinning room next to the historic standing stone, lovely food, amazing service and a special hotel full of history.
it would have been better if we could have stayed a little longer.

We loved the historic nature of this hotel and building and the personal attention we received from the moment we arrived. Such friendly relaxed and efficient service from all the staff. We loved our twin room looking out over the garden and onto the moors, it was cozy, comfortable and well appointed.

Breakfast very good, freshly cooked. Room spotless clean and fresh. Owners/staff very helpful and always willing to offer information on the hotel and the area. Very nice bar, where you could easily imagine sitting there 200 plus years ago as hotel is steeped in history
A little bit more varied evening menu would have been nice. Maybe offer a couple of simple dishes, sometimes visitors do not always want A al carte type meal. However the evening meals we had were excellent.

We visited for the folk festival so it was very handy. The room was very nice and comfortable. The staff were very welcoming and helpful despite it being an exceptionally busy weekend. The breakfast was lovely and well organised and the food and drinks very good. We also liked the rear garden and outside areas

Location was wonderful on the edge of Dartmoor, staff were friendly and fun and the food excellent, the room really lovely. We really felt the love of the staff for their beautiful historic building and their customer service.
Really nothing, we just needed twice as long to enjoy everything even more!

Attractive, comfortable room, well-appointed, and with an excellent folder of information. Our room, and the whole building are full of character and historic interest. The location is beautiful, and the hotel provides free leaflets of walks from the door. We walked the lovely 5-mile Belstone Cleave circuit, along the wooded river valley, taking in the edge of the moorland and fabulous views from the pub in Belstone. Nearby roadside parking was easy.

Breakfast was very good, eggs, toast and smoked kippers with strong hot coffee. The history of Oxenham Arms is amazing. So many fascinating figures have stayed here. One of our hosts, John, was full of facts and anecdotes, obviously very proud of the place! We took his advice on a hike nearby and it was one of the highlights of our UK trip.
Nothing comes to mind. Sure the ceilings were low in places, the floors uneven, but the place is hundreds of years old. Certain compromises have had to be made to ensure the heritage integrity of the place. How many hotels can boast of both a neolithic AND a Roman standing stone inside the place! Heck, we slept in the same bed as Charles Dickens did when he was writing his Pickwick Papers!
