Our fault, but it appears we booked our one night stay in the Bubble and not the Chateau. Unfortunately, no other rooms were available. The Bubble is a ‘blow up’ structure in the garden with a queen -size bed and additional shower room and loo in the forest; so very romantic. It didn’t help that Le Zhuttle had had technical issues delaying us 3 hours, so we were too late for dinner. Despite this, were pleased that Vanessa and David could offer us a late cold supper, which was excellent. The Bubble was a pleasant experience but we hope to return to stay in the Château one day.

A beautifully restored chateau in a peaceful setting amongst woodlands and gardens 8 minutes from the main autoroute. On our way to the Alps it was a perfect stopover for a couple of nights. Very comfortable bed and huge bathroom. Vanessa was a perfect host and we had rebooked dinner that evening which was a delicious 3courses for 40 euros each. Breakfast was plentiful with fresh eggs from their lovely hens in the garden! Highly recommended.

Nothing. It was perfect

Beautifully decorated room and bathroom with large shower.Lovely grounds and swimming pool.Good breakfast choices and evening meal available at extra cost.3 courses imaginatively prepared and very welcome after long journey! Vanessa very pleasant hostess.

It was impossible to contact property in advance to add evening meal to our booking as no reply on phone or messages . Shower head was slightly damaged on one side which meant water didn’t flow evenly.

Room, very quiet, comfortable bed, good quality fittings, nice grounds, breakfast and Vanessa.

I requested an evening meal which the Hotel booked at a local restaurant some miles away (the Hotel does not provide meals apart from breakfast) but failed to follow through. On our arrival the restaurant told the Hotel they did not have space for us. The alternative was further away - in or just outside Troyes which we did not wish to drive to having already driven 9 hours that day. We were told how to open the gate from the road but not the front door. Even at 9 pm the door was locked yet no one responded to our knocking or our phone call which went through to voicemail. We had to wait for another guest to return some time later.

We loved the care that had obviously been taken to make the decor attractive, the attention of the Host and Hostess (Merci beaucoup David and Vanessa), the beautiful grounds and atmosphere, indeed the whole ambience of the place. It felt special, close to a very special town. We particularly enjoyed eating here (chapeau, David), and would do so again. It was so relaxing after a hard day's drive. Easy to get to Dieppe as well.

We asked for more coat hangers, and Vanessa kindly provided these. It would also have been good to have slightly more provisions for making tea etc., inclundig milk for those of us who like tea in both the English, and French manner. Other than these very minor issues, we have nothing but praise, and take pleasure in recommending this lovely chateau and its charming and amusing owners.

we were horribly delayed due to traffic. but we called ahead and updated our hosts and they were very kind and understanding. The chateau is easily found just off the A26 nr Troyes so perfect for a stopover and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. The owners had only recently changed but everything was done well and we set off again well rested.

It was stunning and such a perfect place to stop along our travels down south. Vanessa was the perfect host…🤩 And the pool was an absolute god send for our son. It was just a perfect stay, thank you so much.

Nothing, as it was my dream home, it was a little hot at night as there is no air conditioning but we were supplied with a fan, which kept us all cool all night.

Simply amazing. Vanessa was a great host and David an excellent chef, the meal we had was superb. Probably the best meal we ate during our 10 days in France! Lovely to also meet Vanessa's daughter who was an absolute delight. Pool is amazing, we had it to ourselves! Unfortunately we only stopped over 1 night, so didn’t have time to explore the area, but will definitely come back.

Nothing - all superb.

Lovely property. Nice staff

Internet so bad the lady could not take a card payment after an hour of trying with us and 3 other couples they had to give up. One couple had cash. Ourselves and another couple were allowed to leave provided we promised to pay on the following Monday by bank transfer (this was a Saturday morning). We lost over an hour on travel plans. Room quite hot (June) no air con could have been better with a fan in the room

We are always looking for quiet places to spend a night when travelling down to the Alps or south of France: we like to be close to the autoroute, and to have plenty of private parking (especially when we have our bikes on the back of the car). Chateau de Montabert ticks all these boxes and more: a beautiful building with character, friendly and welcoming hosts, grounds to walk around (nice if you need to stretch your legs after several hours in the car), and a beautifully decorated bedroom. The cost of breakfast is included in the room rate (the only place on our trip that did this), and there were also tea and coffee making facilities in our room (again, the only place on our trip that did this!). Highly recommended, and a place to which we will be happy to return.

Evening meals are not provided, so you will need to use the car again to go out to eat (or, in our case, make sure you have an enormous lunch instead!). The only problem we encountered during our stay was that it took several attempts using four different credit cards before payment was accepted - we gather the internet is a little temperamental. The couple who were paying just before us had a similar problem (although to be fair their payment went through on their second card/attempt!).
