The little hot tub was fantastic, the deck was better than imagined and it was lovely in the sun under the trees in the morning. The little bar and restaurant was also great and the shop opened late.

The location is really great! it was really well-situated to be able to drive around Big Sur and take a break in the middle of the day. It is right by the road, but it was still pretty quiet at night and the restaurant was really good. The bed in the side room is very comfortable, but it's not for tall people. The bathroom was really big and very nice! There is also a hotel cat who hangs out in the restaurant balcony when its sunny. This is also one of the most convenient hotels to stay in if you want to watch sunset on Pfeiffer Beach.

Lovely place. Comfy bed. Clean room. Convenient and cozy. Just what you need for a visit to Big Sur. Great staff—very kind and accommodating. Heat in room good, though I'd ask for assistance on how to operate it. Nice shower, nice cleaning staff, and again, convenient to visit everywhere in Big Sur. I loved that the Big Sur River was raging down below (through the campground—I stayed in the hotel this time) while I was there, got to do some fun cold-water swims, against the current/in place!. Also, the walks through the redwoods are unrivaled, and Fernwood has many.

Heat was a bit confusing, but once figured out, awesome. Not the best food at the restaurant, but fine for what you are getting overall—comfort food!! With some healthy salad options. This next thing is a little picky, given that one can camp and avoid it, but if one is looking for the comfort of a hotel room, must deal with it: I wish the rooms opened to the rear of the property so you looked out at the redwoods, and so it were quieter. Instead, you hear the cars passing by whenever they pass, which is fine a bit after dark. However, a redesign would be amazing. Also, it would be swell to have at least instant coffee in the rooms? An extra $4 per coffee from the shop is a lot if you're paying a nightly rate. These little things aside, overall, a great experience!

It was way more than I expected. I loved everything about it and I do mean everything. I do plan to return as soon as possible. Not sure why anyone would pay $1500 for a night stay at neighboring hotels when this one has everything at your fingertips and I do mean everything. We are two African-American women traveling alone, and unfortunately our fellow nature lovers aren’t always friendly to us, but we had NO problems with Fernwood Resort. We didn’t even mind there was no television! May God bless them and their businesses!

The only thing I didn’t like, was seeing How the river was almost dry. It is so sad to see and I’m excited the rain came when we got there. Nothing bad to say about Fernwood, wait I almost forgot the power plugs are kind of scary as we got sparks when we went to plug-in our cell phones, but we just decided to charge them in the car for safety reasons.

The location was brilliant with a lot of parking places. The staff were very kind and accommodating even though we arrived after 9pm (they close at 9 in the winter season, which we didn’t know). Equally, the restaurant was closed but they still offered us pizza, which was brilliant. We also had a hot tub on our patio and it was really nice to be in the hot tub mid-December surrounded by the tall trees that enhanced the Christmassy feel. I’m really glad I booked this place.

It would maybe be useful to know that the restaurant and check-in close at 9pm during winter season. But it all worked out great for us regardless, so all good!

The location and surroundings are beautiful, but then all of Big Sur is beautiful! However, having that awesome bar and grill nestled among the redwoods, and convenience store with espresso, is a major plus! The room was lovely, and very fitting for the surroundings. Having a separate bedroom with the room for 4 adults, was awesome!

That we couldn’t take Coco the cat home with us. Seriously, what a sweet cat to entertain us on the patio! The shower stall was a little tight, but it was still clean nevertheless.

There was a mix up with our room and the front desk were AMAZING in resolving everything. They were so kind and hospitable. The restaurant was also so kind in making us feel welcomed and appreciated as customers. The chef came out and really took care of us, even giving us a free dessert!

The rooms were a bit hot. They gave us a fan, which helped. I’m looking forward to coming back after the renovations and definitely getting one of the hot tub rooms!

We had a room next to the general store and faced the highway, but it wasn't noisy at all and the highway is nearly without traffic at night. Our room was very clean and well stocked with towels, shampoo, conditioner and handsoap. We had one queen bed and one double bed in a small attached room. The beds were very comfortable. It got a little chilly at night, but the two baseboard heaters worked great! Having a general store and restaurant on site was very convenient. The store had an espresso bar and served Lappert's ice cream. It also had a nice selection of groceries, sundries, and souvenirs. I enjoyed coffee and a tasty muffin on the front patio each morning. The restaurant food was pretty good with the usual fare (burgers, sandwiches, pizza, tacos, salad, etc.). The back patio was a nice place to dine, with hanging and torch lights, as well as sitting areas with fire pits. All the staff we came in contact with from the cashier at general store, restaurant staff, and cleaning staff were very pleasant. I will definitely be returning to Fernwood and telling my friends about this charming place!

amazing rustic atmosphere in the midst of the redwoods of the Big Sur. The air smelled of lavender and sandalwood. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was amazing.

The Wi-Fi was very poor and disappointing. There was no TV in the room but that was expected-however, I was expecting the Wi-Fi to be better. A brochure of hiking trails would have been helpful. I followed a trail in the back into the state park and there were several branches down over the path. It was hard to tell the path from the woods in some parts I ended up having to turn around and go back because I didn’t have a proper map of the trail.

The staff was very accommodating and friendly. They were able to check us in early as we were there for a wedding and needed a place to get ready. The hot tub on the back deck was absolutely amazing. And the room was very quaint and cozy.

Hard to say… the stay overall was very pleasant. I really don’t think I could think of any sort of improvement.
